I feel like it’s not addressed enough that Lucas is bullied directly because he’s black. The bullies call Dustin “toothless”, they call Mike “frog face”, they call Will “zombie boy”, and it’s heavily implied that they target Lucas because of the colour of his skin. This continues into season 2 with Billy hating his sister even talking to Lucas, and attacking him. It’s a huge signpost to racism, added too by his interracial relationship with Max, and it’s important that it’s talked about. The show did it for a reason.

There’s a lot of stuff in John’s history that he doesn’t know. The reason that D’avin got into the army was sort of to protect John and there’s stuff that he can find out. I think complications between siblings is a lovely, ever-evolving thing, but you have to understand the past a little bit more to know the truth of it.
