Okay, it only took me one episode of the new season to be thoroughly invested in Paul Renner as Semir’s new Cobra 11 partner. They have such a great dynamic together. I love that Paul is there to bring lightness and a bit more humour back to the role, but I also love that he is already calling Semir on his (very occasional) garbage and letting him know that lying to his wife, even for the best reasons, is not okay. And he makes Semir coffee and brings it out to him when he gets picked up for work. And gets invited round to the Gerkhans for family dinners. I still miss Alex, but this is adorable. More please!

Cobra 11 ret-conned Erdoğan Atalay as Semir Gerkhan in the flashback scene to 1996 in ‘Cobra, übernehmen Sie’, aired April 7, 2016. Problem: he didn’t have a beard in 1996, nor did he have this jacket. He wasn’t driving a silver BMW 3er with the registration NE-DR 8231 till years later. And he called for ‘Andrea’ on the radio, when Andrea wasn’t even working there—it was Regina in season 1. Finally, he was based in Berlin, not Köln. Not the only example of ret-conning in Cobra 11, but probably the most serious in 20 years.

YES, I HAVE *OPINIONS* ABOUT THIS POST.

Okay, for starters, Victoria wasn’t a sex worker. She wasn’t necessarily anti-sex worker in the manner of the time–she viewed it as a societal ill that occurred because of the inequality of women and the power structure which allowed and abused such sex work. But she very much wanted to destroy the structures that forced many women into sex work and sex trafficking.

The claims that Victoria herself was a sex worker come from two things: her supportive stance on ‘free love’, i.e. the allowance for men and women to chose their own consensual sex partners outside of marriage, and her rise to power as a millionaire New York stock broker and newspaper owner. See, men of the time refused to believe that Victoria and her younger sister Tennessee Claflin could truly be such shrewd, ambitious and forward thinking businesswomen all on their own. So they spread the rumor that the sisters got their positions and fortunes from being sugar babies basically.

She was also virulently anti-trafficking after her younger sister and business partner Tennie Claflin was kidnapped and sold into brothels by one of their business rivals. When this happened, Victoria and her husband Colonel James Blood tracked the traffickers down and retrieved Tennie at gunpoint from her captors. 

Victoria was not well liked by her fellow suffragists either because she was an ardent supporter of Black suffrage and total equality of all races. She regularly told Stanton and Anthony to go fuck themselves.

It was awesome. She was awesome.

Der Seehund = literally the “sea dog”, as in seal. :) They’re also called die Robbe (singular) and die Robben (plural) in more general terms. There are 2 different kinds of them on the German coasts of Nordsee (North Sea) and Ostsee (Baltic Sea), the Seehund and the Kegelrobbe. The Seehund is present all around the North Sea while being a rarity in the Baltic Sea. Kegelrobben colonies can be found around the German islands of Amrum and Helgoland and all North Sea coastlines, but rarely along the Baltic Sea coasts.

Kasseler im Brot

Kasseler is a salted and lightly smoked cut of pork. One way to prepare it is to wrap the entire piece in bread dough and bake it in the oven until the bread has a nice, crunchy crust, and cut into slices before eating. It is usually served with potato salad and pickles, or with home fries / fried potatoes and coleslaw.

Sometimes this dish is served in the student restaurant of the FU Berlin.
