imho more likely a reference to the Arthur C. Clarke story that shares a lot of themes with Starfield (and inspired the movie that shares even more themes) but Hammerfell is cool but sure why not.
i've been thinking about turning q into a centaur and i'm not going to learn how to draw a horse right this moment but otherwise no, not a q<-->human swap. there is at least one fun little role reversal au on ao3 but since this is just swapping their species, there are two ways i can see things going for human!q:
option 1: he's smart as hell but hates hard work and gets bored easily so he has a wild youth and eventually just ends up bed rotting or something until he maybe finds something he wants to do. but since i can't really find a way to make him meet with q!picard in that scenario, i went with...
option 2: smart and somehow has the drive to get into the academy and eventually becomes the CSO of the enterprise
q!picard, or i guess p of the p continuum (wait. no. we'll workshop something later.), on the other hand, would be such a massive pain in the ass for the enterprise. he would be so pedantic and bureaucratic about the whole trial thing and he wouldn't even wear any fun costumes. he would put on a starfleet uniform but without any insignia because he doesn't want his appearance to have any effect on how the humans around him act (they all hate him but he doesn't know it)
also unlike q!q, q!picard can just hang around in every episode because he's NOT going to help or tempt or do anything to these people. he has a very strict professional ethic. no fun allowed
so he just kinda follows all senior officers around until he meets q. q is a friendless loser but has somehow still become a commander and the CSO of the flagship and since everyone else finds them kinda miserable to be around, they stick together and eventually start not-quite-hating each other and things just kinda evolve from there
or they hook up right away and hate each other even more but also can't get rid of each other
on the topic of companions at the lucky 38, it's hysterical to me how arcade and veronica are 1) constantly drinking your soda without asking and 2) the only companions in the game who do this. arcade grabbed a nuka cola off the kitchen counter right in my face once. gay people will raid your fridge in front of you and not even pay rent
the notes on the āyou should read more nonfiction booksā post i reblogged a few minutes ago are really depressing to meā¦ So many people screaming crying throwing up about how fiction is their special little funtime zone and they couldnāt imagine reading anything nonfiction. I do not sympathize with that mindset. I canāt help but wonder what society-level force has instilled people with this incurious attitude. is it a failing of the education system? iām just not sure.

the idea of matteo being the most open and receptive to the starborn spacefarer is so enticing to me... almost everyone else is either scared or skeptical of you but it stands to reason that matteo might pay just a little bit more attention to the way you speak and carry yourself, being the closest thing there is to one of his angels. he mentions that you're not quite the angel he expected, but a miracle nonetheless. i think he would be much slower to make a judgement call on you, and his conclusion would eventually be that 1) you are clearly some sort of angel-esque being and he is fascinated with you, and 2) you are in a great deal of very human pain. i like to think that he'd be the first, maybe only one to show you any actual real comfort and support because of how much more contemplation he's done about the multiverse - possibly even before you came into the picture. he's probably considered the possibility that eternity could be a bleak and empty thing to experience. he'd have more empathy to offer than the others and his words would likely be massively comforting to someone who hasn't been offered an ounce of it in literally forever
