so i’ve eliminated my phone from the “staying up all night” equation by getting an alarm clock and charging said phone in another room, but this resulted in a second, secret problem of staying up too late drawing because i still had my tablet. i don’t wanna move my tablet to another room as well because i like having a little bit of drawing time before bed so for about a week i was like….. oh i’ll just force myself off at the correct time eventually. one of these days that will happen.
but last night realized i'm never gonna just gain the willpower to curb my bad habits at random, that’s the entire reason i took the phone out of the room, so i just. set my tablet to turn completely greyscale from 12:30am to 8am to prevent me from staying up all night drawing. and guess who actually fucking went to bed the second his tablet turned grey.
moral of the story and a lesson i think everyone can take from this is don’t expect yourself to just get over your bad habits through sheer force of will. it won’t fucking happen. instead make them as annoying as possible to continue. make them completely unsatisfying. sabotage your bad habits.
"lock in" is probably one of the most important phrases to enter the public lexicon in the 2020s
yknow I got some leftover chopped chicken that’s about to go off. think I might risk it and make Bullshit Ramen. gonna start setting some frozen dumplings aside to steam. gonna fry some sliced garlic with a pat of butter, some sesame oil, sesame seeds, ginger powder, and lots of chili flakes just until fragrant. then add a lovely 2 tablespoons of light soy and a tablespoon of dark soy. gonna be agitating this lightly, and adding a little heavy cream till lightly golden brown, and gonna keep that movement goin for one minute in medium low heat. then adding the ramen, a touch of the boiling water, the chicken, an egg, stirring till slightly congealed and the egg cooked through. the fairies will spoon this concoction to my mouth and a sublime strength will fill me. they will load me into the great fairy cannon blade as fodder. I am launched into mitch mcconnell’s hospital room and knock that plug straight outta the wall

Human beings, on average, cannot exert total control over their weight. Being singularly obsessed with exerting total control over your weight is, in fact, a disordered eating behavior.
This is not the same as having an eating disorder. But it is a warning sign for developing one, and carries its own negative health effects.
It's not disordered to look at your diet and decide you'd like to drink more water, which then naturally results in you drinking less soda.
It is disordered to become obsessive about soda and feel extremely stressed at the thought of ever drinking one because of the calorie content.
There are many fitness practices that for some people, some of the time, will result in weight loss, but you don't control if it happens to you.
Because the truth no one wants to acknowledge is that losing weight isn't inherently healthy.
Gaining weight isn't inherently unhealthy.
And as you incorporate more fitness habits into your life, like movement, improved nutrition, better hydration, better rest, etc. your weight will likely regulate to your body's set weight.
Set weight is still a theory (though a well supported one) but the likelihood is your body has a genetically programmed optimum weight range. And while maintaining healthful habits you can likely toggle it to either end of your natural range, but the thinness that society idolizes is not in everybody's natural range.
Which means with fitness some people will lose weight. And some people will gain weight. Some people's weights won't change much at all.
Some people who are currently living in thin bodies may discover that they are actually healthier in fatter bodies.
Which is why weight loss centric mentalities often lead towards disordered behaviors.
Because when getting healthier doesn't make you thinner, lots of folks will choose thinness over health. And that's their choice, but we shouldn't be misrepresenting it as "healthy."

any advice for captioning youtube videos? I want to make content eventually (but probably not soon) and your captions are very good! :D
youtube has a feature where you can copy paste text and it'll automatically figure out the timing for subtitles based on that. I do this for every scripted video I make and it almost never needs any manual adjustments. for anyone else making scripted youtube videos I highly recommend doing this
any time you see a video essay without subtitles you can and should point out the fact that it's extremely easy to turn a video script into a subtitle track for a youtube video. lots of people who make scripted videos seem to think the only options are "no subtitles" or "professional subtitles" but if you have the script it is not hard to turn a script into a transcript and it is even easier to turn a transcript into subtitles

Trying to find an old tumblr post I used to see a lot.
It started with someone listing "places with uncanny energy," like gas stations on a road trip, empty movie theaters, etc.
Then someone reblogged it and said those are called "liminal spaces," defining liminal as in-between, neither one thing nor another.
It was the first time I'd seen the term "liminal" applied to places like that, and it's driving me crazy, I want to find and put a date on it so bad.
