Hiii! I have a question! I’m not sure if this has been asked many times, but how do you make your custom characters using the KHUX assets system? I wanted to make one for my ocs, but I’m struggling out here so I would like some advice!
Hi!! I've been meaning to make a "tutorial" on how I make my oc sprites for awhile, so thank you for the excuse :D I don't know how useful this will be- I'll explain things how they work in my head and I hope you'll be able to make sense of them. I don't have any recordings of me making any of the sprites so I'll just have to settle with the pictures
The main component in my sprite edits comes from the roboloid website with all of the khux assets! On it you can find a tab that says "Player Parts":
And in this tab you will find the individual assets of every body part, facial expression, and avatar clothes in the game!! It's extremely useful and if no one got me I know the bitches over at roboloid got me, can I get an amen?
Anyway, the way I did it is I downloaded each individual body part in the skin color I wanted and matched it up with one of the in-game character sprites to make sure that the sizing was accurate.
If the skin tone wasn't an exact match to what I wanted, I just traced over the pngs with the correct color, taking into account the different areas of shade/blushing (this is very important if you want it to "look right").
Another important thing to take into account is which sprite you're basing yours off of because they can differ slightly in height. Basically, if you're using Lauriam, just know that he's visibly taller than all the other dandelion characters so plan accordingly.
Now, the smarter (and easier) thing to do for the rest of the character would be to frankenstein together the in-game assets and edit as needed so that you can convincingly recreate your character's design in the style accurately. But if you're insane like I am you copy that shit by hand.
I also recommend sketching out your oc's design on top of the sprite before you begin as a guideline. Makes it easier on yourself
Aaaand I think that's really all I have to say? Basic summary is: The assets are your best friend. Use them and edit as needed. Your mileage may very with regard to how much of the sprite you want to draw by hand as opposed to frankensteining assets. Have fun! And I'd love to see the finished products of your sprite editing :))
