american girl dolls were a massive special interest of mine growing up. the hyperfixation has come back a few times and i'm leaning into it/letting myself fully enjoy it this time :)

i have four dolls:

kit is the only one with me rn, the rest are in storage at my childhood home but i hope to grab them this week :)

i love a lot of the characters and their stories and i'm having trouble deciding who i want to collect while keeping my collection small. rn i'm thinking:

nellie

ruthie

gwen (on the fence)

sonali (on the fence)

a set of bitty twins (on the fence)

a doll that looks like me currently would be cool but it'd have to be custom and idrk and if i'm for that

i'm not super sure what my goals in the fandom or the hobby are. i enjoy a good craft and i want to make kit's outfits so i'm thinking i may just collect a few dolls and hard to diy pieces and hand make the rest as replicas? idk

i almost forget how homophobic the wider range of people who like american girl can be. like the tumblr ag scene is very gay (or, if not lgbt themselves, allies). then i leave the circle and it’s a bunch of conservative moms who are shouting about how disgusting it is that lgbt people are allowed to exist. in conclusion homophobes are banned from all ag media and content forever <3

kit's mom is samantha's contemporary! she's old enough to have a son who was college bound in 1932, she looks fabulous and probably married young, as was the style at the time. she's probably 40, max. idk i just think it'd be interesting to know how similar her upbringing was to samantha's. and also how is sam faring during the depression? for my sake i'm assuming she's doing alright and the depression didn't hit her family hard

After three days, I have finished my attempt at recreating Samantha’s New York City school uniform from Samantha: An American Girl Holiday (2004).

For the dress, I used the Simplicity 7998 sewing patterns (dress D). I couldn’t find the correct color of plaid fabric, so I just picked up a flannel shirt from Walmart to cut up and called that close enough.

The pinafore in the picture is from Samantha’s play dress and pinafore outfit, but maybe I’ll make one specifically to go with this outfit at some point.

It's been a while so! Here they are in order from left to right the ladies are:

Theodora "Theo" Emrys - one of my 1930's OC's who is Kit's girlfriend in my world! I'm writing her a whole little story eventually. She's a Blaire base with Molly's grey eyes and custom freckles all over her body. She's in a dress I made recently from a modified Simplicity pattern.

Eun-jin "Nina" Joon - one of my 1920's OC's who is bffs with Claudie! Eloise's fraternal twin! My newest doll. She still needs some work but I've always wanted a Jess mold.

Virginie Collins one of my 1920's OC's who is bffs with Claudie! She is a Melody base with custom painted freckles all over, a new wig and Blaire's green eyes. 

Kit Kittredge, of course!!! My best girl forever. She's modeling a blouse I made recently.

Merusri "Meri" Darjee one of my 1930's OC's who is bffs with Kit! She's also going to get her own whole little story eventually. One of my all time favorite dolls, she is just so beautiful! (Excuse her not period accurate outfit lol, she just looked so cute in it!)

Eun-hae "Eloise" Joon one of my 1920's OC's who is bffs with Claudie! Nina's fraternal twin! She still needs some work on her wig (I'm going to add some wig wefts to make it a little longer but it's still going to be a shorty cut.)

Emily Bennett (of course!) One of my two remaining childhood dolls <3

Claudie Wells (ofc ofc!) She's wearing a genuine 1920s doll blouse from Mercari, a necklace I made her from a scrimshaw earring, and a cardigan my lovely gf's family member made me based off of beforever Molly's cardi!

There's a user called dollightful_treasures on ig and tiktok that seems to be taking your historical character's outfits compared to real outfits from the time and not crediting your research.

I feel so sick and hurt. I poured hours and hours of research into this and for someone to just sweep in and take credit for it is real gut punch.

Unfortunately this person blocked me on Instagram so I can't even see how much they've stolen. Report through Instagram and Tiktok if you can.

for clarification, this is a tumblr person who took quite a few of my posts to other platforms a few weeks ago and i then thought i’d figured out what their deal is and gotten them to take them down (the post about that situation is in the replies). yesterday i found that, in addition to taking in-pleasant-company’s content, there were a few of mine back up.

as of this morning, i can no longer see any of the posts on tiktok. as for instagram, the posts were gone as of last night, but they’ve now privated their account and changed their username back to the_doll_blog_official there, so i do not know if our posts are back up and just hidden from public view. and who knows if any of these account names will remain the same because they have a history of changing them!!

Spent a little while yesterday filling my collection of tiny jars I’ve accumulated over the last couple years :)

The kitchen is also ofc unfinished lol, the dollhouse feels neverending project filled, all requiring ample time and money, but occasionally a small amount of effort makes a big difference!!!

My girl Theo ofc had to have a small kitchen photoshoot to celebrate the improved state of the kitchen and her new dress~
