Lucy Weasley | half-blood | born 2003-2004 | THE COMPLACENT
Nobody’s family is perfect and Lucy wouldn’t want to live in one that was. Yes, she always did well in school and followed more rules than she broke and knew the difference between being honest and being rude – but she doesn’t think she’s perfect. It’s stressful enough just being good, she doesn’t want to even try to be perfect. Being a perfectionist isn’t the same; Lucy just believes in doing things the right way the first time so she doesn’t have to redo them and that’s just sensible. People ought to relax and stop assuming that just because a person cares about results that makes them an overachiever. Lucy doesn’t want to overachieve anything; she just wants to be happy, and crack bad jokes, and do good work. She certainly doesn’t want to show-up her sister over anything. Neither one of them has, as far as Lucy can tell, anything to prove to anyone – so why Molly is always so convinced that Lucy is out to make her look bad, Lucy has no idea. People have a habit of thinking the worst of her no matter what she does or why. She tries not to let it get her down, just like she tries not to get too stressed-out when something doesn’t go right the first time. That’s a lot harder. Still, she adheres to a policy of “fake it ‘til you make it,” so she strives for an easy-going attitude to counter her anxiety. Sometimes it nearly works.

Oh wow. Both yes and no at once, I’m afraid? Yes because all of the characters are open right now…and no because that’s due to the fact that the game isn’t open right now. I didn’t actually mean to post Scorpius’s bio, I thought I had put it into the drafts but I guess I must have hit the wrong selection and sent it to the queue instead? It wasn’t until I saw messages coming in to this account that I realized what I had done, I’m so sorry!
I started building this game a while ago, but I put it aside to work on something else with a friend and I was just tinkering with it last night…and accidentally put something into the queue, oops! I’m so sorry about that (both to you, and to the poor soul who actually sent in an application – I am so sorry! – and to anyone else who might have gotten excited when they saw this in the tags.
This game is not currently open, is not currently slated to open any time soon. I expect that I will come back and finish – and open it – eventually, so feel free to leave it followed so you can check back later…but for now, while I continue to tinker idly with this, may I direct you OVER HERE for a deliciously unique take on the world of Harry Potter?
Scorpius Malfoy | pure-blood | born 2005-2006 | THE RESISTANCE
The Malfoy name is not what it used to be and Scorpius knows that, but he doesn’t have to like it. He adores his family and can’t help but resent how the rest of the world sees them: as scum, traitors, cowards, or villains…or all four at once. He always wanted to change that, but figured out quickly that flying well or scoring high on tests wasn’t going to be enough. Maybe helping to save the world will do it, although he thinks the others are overstating the threat a bit – but he’s okay with that, if it will help redeem the Malfoy reputation more. What he’s not okay with is the fact that his family are all under the spell, too. This is the first time in his life that Scorpius has kept a secret from his parents for longer than a school term (some things being better discussed in person than via letters, after all) and he doesn’t like it. He’s had to get used to a lot of things he dislikes over the years, not often being in a position to object, but deceit within his family is something else. In a world where nobody likes a Malfoy, at least they always had each other…until now. If he didn’t have Albus and Rose still at least he’d turn his back on the whole idea and go home and pretend everything’s fine. Even with them -- and his snooty cousin -- at his side he still feels bereft without the unconditional support of his dad and mum.

Arianna Zabini | pure-blood | born 2002-2003 | THE COMPLICIT
People think life is all fun and games and fancy parties for Arianna, and on one level they’re right – but what they fail to realize is that fun and games and fancy parties are a lot of hard work if you’re doing them right. Of course you can’t look like you’re working hard, it has to seem effortless – which is something Arianna has always been good at. She’s even better than her father, who’s too openly bigoted to pull-off the kind of networking and social one-upmanship that their life demands. Arianna is adept at making all sorts of people think she’s their friend, even riffraff. Ordinarily a Zabini wouldn’t give people of such inferior breeding the time of day let alone save them a dance, but the world she grew up in isn’t the same one her father knew when he was young. Now the riffraff are the ones in charge, and the only way to get ahead in life is to play nice. At least for now; the Zabinis have heard the rumors that this may be changing soon, and Arianna has no reservations about doing her part to realize that goal. Maybe she should; by the very standards that she upholds, her own blood is less than perfect – but what would be considered “impure” in other families isn’t worth worrying about to her, because being a Zabini is more than enough perfection to counter a little taint. Besides, what the rest of the world doesn’t know can’t hurt her.

Dominique Weasley | half-blood | born 2001-2002 | THE RESISTANCE
Unlike her siblings, who viewed their veela blood as a burden more than a gift, Dominique always liked the perks of their heritage more than she lamented the problems. She was an awkward girl – not clumsy because probably no one who’s part-veela has ever been clumsy, but awkward when it came to talking to people. She hated meeting strangers…until she realized that no matter how stupid she thought her comments had been, they couldn’t help but be charmed by her. It was liberating, not having to worry what people thought about her; she knew what they would think, and it was almost always positive. (Some were jealous, put-off instinctively by her charms, but they were the minority. She could handle being disliked by some people, especially when it wasn’t her fault.) It wasn’t until the first time she went into the Muggle world without parental supervision that she discovered first-hand that sometimes being charming was a bad thing. She wasn’t hurt – veela blood carries a temper too – but she was scared, and withdrew from everyone. The one good thing about this horrible spell that’s fallen on the world is that it’s forced her to climb out of her shell again. She can’t afford to be shy, or ignore any of her gifts, when there’s so much at stake. Win or lose, that should be good for her…she hopes.

Fred Weasley | half-blood | born 1998-1999 | THE COMPLACENT
In most families someone like Fred would be considered “the good kid,” but he’s the one his parents worry about; he’s the rebel, the problem-child. He didn’t crave rebellion though, he was just trying to distance himself from the ghost of a dead man. His mum and dad claim they only named him Fred to honor the man they lost, not to try and recapture the past – but Fred isn’t sure they aren’t lying to themselves. At first he tried to be the person he thought they wanted but he never felt funny enough, never felt clever enough, never felt like himself enough. He tried it the other way – following the rules, studying for tests, minding his manners – and discovered that he liked that, liked living in a world that was structured and predictable. It’s rewarding to succeed at something because it’s logical, not because of someone else’s subjective idea of what makes a good joke. He doesn’t understand his family – and they don’t understand him, either. He’s got his mum’s dedication but none of her humor, and the only thing of his dad he sees in himself is the rebellious streak that led him to love law and order. As for his sister and cousins, they’re so hungry for excitement that they’ll make up impossible magics and fictional dangers as an excuse for acting-out distorted echoes of the past and that’s something Fred wants nothing to do with.

Victoria Goyle | pure-blood | born 2004-2005 | THE RESISTANCE
For the most part Victoria is proud to come from such an old bloodline, even though it’s suffered in reputation recently. The Goyle name is still deserving of respect and recognition, at least in her eyes, and if she can convince the rest of the world of that so much the better. Victoria has always been a confident girl who doesn’t need the approval of anyone else – which is good, because she’s had to get used to holding her head up while other people look down on her, or think they know her. She doesn’t go out of her way to apologize for the presumptions of other people though; that’s their problem, not hers. Her only responsibility is to be a good heir to her family name and fortune, not make-up for the shortcomings of others. She’s also got to look out for her little sister of course, but that has nothing to do with her role as heir; that’s just what family does. Recently that’s gotten trickier because Vertiline has begun keeping secrets and acting-out on her own, and of course Victoria isn’t short-sighted enough to think she can ignore the problems of the whole world and still fulfill her duty to the family, so she’s been preoccupied too – but she hasn’t forgotten Verti. She’s just been busy stomping on the objections of people who think that having a grandfather in Azkaban means she’s no good to their cause.
Adele Spinnet-Bell | half-blood | born 1999-2000 | THE RESISTANCE
With two professional Quidditch players for parents – one admittedly more famous than the other – Adele sometimes feels like she was bred to fly. Her childhood consisted of going to matches, listening to matches, talking about matches, and watching her mums practice for matches. Some kids might have rebelled against all that by wanting nothing to do with the sport, but Adele can’t imagine life without Quidditch any more than she can imagine life without her mums. It surprised no one when she captained her house team to victory at Hogwarts and then went on to try-out professionally herself as soon as she graduated. Making it onto a pro team was harder than she’d expected, but she’s never minded hard work and the fact that it turned out to be a challenge just made it more rewarding in the end. Now she gets to be the one out there on a broomstick while her mums sit in the stands and cheer for her. She can’t imagine any better life than that. It’s like things have come full-circle, which is delightful – in her personal life, at least; having other things circle around again is not. Adele never expected to have to take up arms in a fight to protect the whole wizarding world like her mums did when they were younger. It’s true she always wanted to follow in their footsteps, but not those footsteps! Still, if it needs to be done...

James Potter | half-blood | born 2003-2004 | THE RESISTANCE
It didn’t take James very long to figure out that he wasn’t “really” a Potter. Maybe that’s why he and his dad always got along so well: Harry knew what it was like to grow up in a family where he looked “different” too – but then again, since James’s family always took care to make sure he felt like family, maybe that’s got nothing to do with the strength of his bond with his dad. It might explain why James gave Albus such a hard time about all the ways in which he didn’t fit-in with the rest of them…or maybe that’s just how brothers are, sometimes. James does love his siblings of course, he just favors teasing over hugging and other mushy stuff; that’s something he got from his mum, not his dad. James doesn’t know exactly how things worked-out between them to cause him. All they’ve told him is that he was what helped them get through a rough patch. Mum promised never to let him date anyone he didn’t know he was related to and that’s all he really needs to know about that, James figures. Besides, he has more important things to deal with right now – namely, saving the world. He’s looking forward to that, weird as it sounds, and not because he thinks he has something to prove. He just knows he’ll be good at it (saving the day is what Potters and Weasleys do after all), and James has always enjoyed any chance to show-off his skills.

Molly Weasley | pure-blood OR half-blood | born 2002-2003 | THE RESISTANCE
School always came easy for Molly. So did most other things, but while it was easy to do well it was harder to be the best. From a young age Molly had the impression that only the best was good enough for her mum and dad – and coming close wasn’t, so she gave up trying at all. She still did “okay” in school, but since “okay” was not okay, she downplayed it instead of working to do better. Having Lucy around didn’t help – perfect little over-achiever Lucy who outdid Molly no matter what she did – so Molly stopped trying to compete. It was easier to have people think she didn’t try because she didn’t care than to think she was trying and could never quite make it. Molly figured out that she was going to be a disappointment either way, so she made the choice to be a purposeful one. The problem-child, the rebel, the girl who got detentions instead of perfect scores, the one who made her parents tears their hair and gnash their teeth and ask where did we go wrong? – that was who she was, or at least who she became. But one thing about rebels is that they don’t mind bucking authority when authority is wrong (or just in the way) so Molly didn’t bat an eyelash when she heard there was a whole group ready to defy the Ministry and all their parents. Here was something she could finally excel at that was worth doing well.

Yes you’re right, sorry! There was a death in the family actually (please don’t feel bad about asking, you weren’t to know!) so things got a bit off-track. I’ll get that remedied soon. Is there anyone in particular you’d like to see first?
Victoire Lupin | half-blood | born May 2, 2000 | THE RESISTANCE
At first Victoire thought she was going crazy; if not for Teddy being able to see both sides of the spell, and believing her unconditionally when she explained what was wrong, she might have checked herself into St. Mungo’s. It’s not like veela blood is known for its penchant toward stability and logic; that’s why Vic always takes care to examine her emotions rather than flying off the handle over every little thing. People expect her to be rash and short-tempered and it makes her angry when strangers assume they know her – which means she had to learn to keep her temper in check to prove them wrong. When she was younger that meant being shy, quiet, and reserved; now she’s found a balance where she can let herself relax a little, be vivacious and charming without the natural charm of her veela side overpowering whoever she’s around – and without letting her temper off the leash to terrify anyone who crosses her. Victoire still worries sometimes that she’s letting her heart run away with her head, but she also thinks she’s finally learned what her parents meant years ago when they said that sometimes, you want to let your heart be the one in control. She hopes they feel the same way when all of this is over and she has to explain why she and the others did what they did – and who they had to do it to.

I have chosen to write this sample as if I were applying for Ginny Weasley in a Trio Era Game with our same premise and relative timing (e.g. the Marauders’ generation are the ones affected by the spell instead of Harry’s generation). This way I am writing an app for a character with whom you should all be familiar enough that you can tell what I’m doing in response to each question, but not for a character who is open for application in this game.
I have skipped doing the OOC section and the Optional Changes section as it seems unnecessary to give examples for those; if you have any questions about either though, or anything else in the application for that matter, please don’t hesitate to ask!
CHARACTER STATS:
NAME: Ginevra Molly Weasley, called Ginny by practically everyone.
AGE: Aug 11, 1981
BLOOD-STATUS: pure-blood
PRONOUNS & GENDER: cis-gender female, she/her
SEXUALITY: bisexual (with a slight homoromantic preference and a slight heterosexual preference -- as in, she’s a little bit more prone to developing romantic feelings for female-presenting people, but tends to lust after masculine-coded people a little bit more)
CHARACTER DETAILS:
WAND: Yew, dragon heartstring, springy, 12 inches. Purchased at Ollivander’s before her frist year of school.
LIFESTYLE: second-string Chaser for the Holyhead Harpies; even a second-string position in professional Quidditch pays enough to awe a witch who grew-up shopping at second-hand stores and she enjoys being able to spend a little bit recklessly. Ginny technically still lives at her parents’ home (the Burrow in Ottery St Catchpole) but she stays at her boyfriend Harry’s house in London (No 12, Grimmauld Place) more often than not -- much to her mother’s chagrin!
BACKGROUND: The youngest child of the impoverished but loving Weasley family, Ginny grew-up in a noisy, bustling home full of chaos and affection and occasional explosions. She’s not used to quiet contemplation and doesn’t deal with emotional weakness or introspection well which was something of a handicap when it came to her own trauma of being possessed by the teenaged Lord Voldemort. She “got over it,” or at least moved past it, but spending her first year at Hogwarts having her soul eaten by a diary and her second recovering from that horror meant she didn’t really get a chance to make friends with her fellow Gryffindor yearmates. By the time she got back to being her usual bubbly, gutsy self, they had already settled into their patterns and friendships and she was an outsider. She consequently spent a lot of time with her brother, Ron, and his friends instead, and also made friends with people in other houses, most notably Luna Lovegood whom she stood-up for against the bullies who liked to pick on the weird girl.
Ginny thrived more once the fight against Voldemort really got underway, because her talents were suited to rebellion and battle and her emotional scars could be used as fuel for the fight instead of as fuel for her nightmares. She weathered the war well enough, although the loss of Fred still hits her hard, and she hasn’t yet forgiven Snape for actually being on their side while pretending to serve Voldemort. She isn’t keen on forgiving anyone who helped Voldemort and his Death Eaters, even if they were unwilling thralls, and she now pours her frustrations into her efforts training for the Holyhead Harpies.
She was recruited to the team right after graduation from Hogwarts, although she was only second-string for her first two years. Now she’s finally poised to make the starting line-up, but with her time being split between Quidditch and fighting this newest threat, she might have to settle for staying on second-string for most matches because Gwenog Jones doesn’t accept “I had to go help try and save the world from this terrible spell that you can’t see” as a reasonable excuse for missing practice! At least working with the resistance gives her a good excuse for seeing Harry; she isn’t sure how they’d fit in time for each other between her training and his work with the Aurors, otherwise. (this is longer than what you’d really need for your characters, but as you all know Ginny had a rather eventful life!)
MISCELLANEOUS DETAILS:
INTEREST: the game I found interesting because it takes characters we are used to seeing in direct battle and gave them something indirect to fight -- an enemy they can’t see, can’t name, can’t prove, can’t fight. It’s a more subtle confrontation than we’re used to getting from our Trio Era heroes.
As for Ginny, I love the dichotomy inherent in the entire Weasley family: they’re “Harry’s funny, caring friends” but they’re also ruthless. Most people tend to overlook that part of their nature because of all the joking around, but the Weasleys will slit your throat without hesitation if you cross them. Ginny is unforgiving, uncompromising, even cruel -- but she fights for the good guys and the underdogs (even though she can be a little bit of a bully herself, just like her brothers, when she thinks she’s on the right side), so we ignore her sharp edges. I like those sharp edges, especially when they belong to a hero. Ginny’s a lot more complex than she looks at first glance and I look forward to delving into the shadows behind her blazing smile.
PLOTTING: since Ginny has had Dark Magic mess with her mind before, she isn’t going to be comfortable with the existence of this spell; it will bring back emotionally distressing memories that she had suppressed and she will be prone to taking reckless risks to free her loved ones from the spell because she remembers how hellish possession by Tom Riddle was for her. This will make her short-tempered, because she doesn’t like talking about what she went through, and it may damage her relationships with her friends and family as a result; I think it would be interesting to explore how this stress affects those relationships since it’s something that she dealt with all by herself in the books when it happened to her without letting other people in to see her pain or help her through her struggles. Now she won’t have much choice but to admit she’s not as fine as she always insisted she was, and that won’t make her happy.
Additionally I would like to explore how her natural leadership abilities affect her teammates, since most of the other Harpies will be confunded by the spell -- but some of them will be immune like Ginny, and a few may even be on the cusp of the magic and able to see both sides of the spell; it would be interesting to see if Ginny can push any of her fellow Harpies into taking action off the pitch, or maybe even if she can use her fame as a professional Quidditch player to leak information to the public somehow (as a sort of foreshadowing to her later role as a journalist).
I also think it would be interesting to deal with jealousy in Ginny and Harry’s relationship; it’s something that definitely affects Ginny, and with her emotions already tense from this spell, she might lash-out at him for innocent things (not over Hermione, because she’s not an idiot, but she certainly doesn’t trust Cho and I’m sure there are others she’d just as soon Harry not spend time with, even for the cause of the resistance, especially when she’s stuck at Quidditch training...but we know that Harry is big on duty, and probably won’t take well to her accusing or implying that she can’t trust him not to cheat, even if it’s mostly just stress-based). I think their relationship would be stronger for it in the end, but who knows? Maybe it will collapse under the pressure. Maybe they’ll get married. I’m up for just about anything!
