Community is once again on Netflix and I’ve been rewatching it for the 9000th time. And you know what?

I couldn’t get into season 6 at all. I barely managed season 5 but I couldn’t even watch the first episode of season 6. Maybe it’s because they made Britta homeless or maybe because this time around I really, REALLY, dislike Annie as a character in season 5 and 6, or maybe it’s because it doesn’t feel like Community anymore.

I love seasons 1-4. Yes, even the gas leak season. You know why? Because it’s still about people attending community college. The show ends on a hopeful note in season 4 only to become a depressing caricature of itself in season 5 and 6. Don’t get me wrong, I like some episodes of season 5 but I watch Community for the wacky vibes of the earlier seasons.

Also, I dislike how Annie centric the show gets, in a way. She was never my favourite but I just disliked her in seasons 4-6.

And hot take I guess: I hope the movie is never made. I think at this point it would only end in failure because it’s been so long and our expectations of it only grew.

There is a Community Youtube channel that airs episodes of Community on Friday and I swear I barely remember anything from season 6, really.

There was this episode about grifting and I did not remember it at all. I think the only episode I remember fully is about whether the dog got a degree or not and about the wedding (but only because I saw it on youtube recently as well), the rest is like a fever dream.

Compared to season 5 or even 4, I remember much more from them. Granted, I haven't seen Community in, I think, a year or so, and I usually rewatched seasons 1-3 but still, no one can convince me that season 6 is better than 4-5. Season 4 might be considered the worst but at least I remember it.

we really didn't deserve The Good Place. a bizarrely high-budget sitcom telling a longform, highly conceptual story that you need to have been watching from episode one, which was allowed to play out at its own pace and wrap things up when it intended to, and it didn't even lose steam over its four seasons. that's practically proof of the existence of a loving god

Seeing people's tearful reactions to the new Superman trailer has really solidified my belief that as much as we've all been worn down by the shittiness of the real world and our post-post modern cynicism in reaction to that shittiness, we all still want to see mythic storytelling that has an undercurrent of hope, that gives us heroes who embody ideals we look up to even when those ideals seem unattainable. Are you listening, Star Wars, this why Luke Skywalker will never be irrelevant no matter how much you try to bury him or twist his character to be something he's not. Anyway I think C.S. Lewis said it best:

"Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker."

We may not be children anymore, but some part of that desire to see those heroes in their purest form lives on no matter how jaded we may become. Crossing my fingers that the movie lives up to the hype if for no other reason than to prove that this type of storytelling still has value and deserves to have a place in the world for as long as we're around to inhabit it

I don't even like Superman as the character that much and that trailer still moved me and made me teary eyed. As much as I enjoy gritty stories, sometimes all you want is hope.

I really hope this Superman movie will be a hit. I think after so many dark superhero stories we should have also hopeful, light ones. Let the Batman be dark so that Superman can be light.

The struggle of a writer who is not native English speaker is this:

I wanted to use a word I forgot and only knew the first letter. After finding it, I realized that I can't use it in this form in the sentence (it was a noun, I needed an adjective). When I changed it, it didn't look right so I just used another word with the same meaning, starting with the same letter and I just...

I could have done it from the beginning. I wouldn't have to google it for five minutes.

And the word in question was "despair" which then I changed to "dismayed".
