SO BADLY. and sure some of it was the roy of it all. #but he could sense her hesitance. he met nate. he knew she was cheating on him. #and even though he wanted this SO badly he still gave her an out #and she didn’t take it but he has always known #that he had to offer it #but!! i LOVE this parallel!! #it’s this persistent doubt that has haunted their relationship from the beginning #that she doesn’t want to be in it. that she doesn’t love him. that she regrets it all. #and he so v rarely voices that fear bc he doesn’t want to acknowledge it #but on the eve of their wedding he gave her an out. even though it would have been humiliating. even though everyone was already there #but she said she wanted to and he let himself believe her even if just a little #even if only bc he WANTED to believe her #and now here they are barely a year later #and he just feels like she’s proven him right #and he resents her for it. he loves her and he resents her and he wants to hurt her #and the shame of it is. they love each other. #and it doesn’t fix anything (via @cinematicnomad)

rewatching tomshiv scenes and i got to the part after logan's funeral when tom finally shows up to the party and they start sniping at each other and shiv deliberately grabs a glass of champagne in front of tom and drinks it even though she's pregnant just to hurt him

they don't write romance like this anymore ....

The thing about ‘I’m not a good fit for a monogamous marriage’ is that the phrasing is such a tell. ‘I’m not a good fit’ not ‘I’m not sure I want’ or something with more agency. If Tom was really listening and could decipher what Shiv was saying he might’ve understood that this was coming from a place of deep insecurity and maybe they could’ve had a conversation about it. Maybe he could’ve tried to figure out why she felt that way. Maybe he could’ve reassured her and they could’ve found a way to move forward that met both of their needs. But his own insecurity and self-loathing runs so deep that he heard ‘I’m not a good fit for a monogamous marriage’ and I think at least part of him assumed he was the problem. Not that Shiv was struggling with the concept of monogamy but that he personally was not enough. ‘Of course’ means ‘of course you can be open with me’ but I think it also means ‘of course I’m not enough. Of course it’s okay to tell me that’. Shiv can see that Tom is upset but she’s not reading why, she doesn’t get that it’s not just about the prospect of non-monogamy but the fact that he thinks it’s about him personally, so when she tries to reassure him she goes about it all wrong, she goes after the shape of the relationship and the concept of love rather than trying to convey that this has nothing to do with him. There is so much self-loathing and insecurity wrapped up in that scene, and both of them are too steeped in their own personal self-hate to actually see and address what’s going on with the other person.

I read your TomShiv fics on AO3 and I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed how you wrote their relationship. I’ve always thought that there is genuine love in that relationship. It’s certainly not perfect and they’ve definitely hit rock bottom before, but it’s not a loveless relationship by any means. I really like your use of flashbacks in both fics(I read the two with their future kids) and also I like seeing them as parents. I know some people have said that Shiv and Tom’s baby(and future babies) may be doomed because of their parents, but I could actually see them working to be good parents :)

i was sat in the perfect spot today to see directly into the right hand side wings and I could see basically all of the crew back there if the light was right and phil took a bit longer to come out after he took of his silicone chest and dan was stalling and telling us about how they accidentally uploaded the wrong video yesterday and phil appeared in the wings whilst he was in the middle of talking and he just stood there with the biggest heart eyes I’ve seen watching Dan just yap on the stage lol … it killed me off and I don’t think anyone else saw it
