This is about creating things not about like, what you spend your time doing. What Björk is saying is that when you create things you should make things that bring you joy, and not what you think will appeal to the most people possible. Trying to please everybody results in art that is bland and tasteless and resonates with nobody because you're too scared to take risks and be sincere and raw. Creating art for yourself might not appeal to everyone, but the people it does reach will truly love it, and it'll resonate with far more people than it ever would if you're too scared to be true to yourself.

Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*

Children not clapping did happen too, (and some were even expected to have hissed, which was later written into the 1928 playscript and 1911 novel). But my all time favourite anecdote about it is from Pauline Chase (who played Peter)'s intro to Peter Pan's Post Bag 1909:

Children love to clap their hands at the play because then they feel that they are really part of it, and you can see them holding their hands poised ready to seize an opportunity. Their great chance is when I ask them to clap their hands if they believe in fairies, and so save Tink's life. But they are very wrathful if any one claps who has the reputation of being a cynic, and once there was quite an uproar in the front row of the dress circle because of a girl who clapped. Those about her pulled down her arms angrily. "How dare you clap," they cried, "when you know you don't believe in fairies!" There was one dreadfully hard-hearted little boy who came to the theatre not to clap. That was his object for coming, and he came round "behind" to tell me so in the middle of the play. His teeth were firm set. "I won't clap," he said doggedly; "I'm not going to clap." And when the time came he didn't clap; above the clapping of all the others I could hear him shouting from a box, "Peter, I'm not clapping."

Digital Bodleian (here you can find not only medieval manuscripts, but all kinds of written and artistic heritage from different parts of the world) 2. Digitised manuscripts and archives from British Library 3. Digital Library of Medieval Manuscrips (my favorite site so far, love all the materials here) 4. IIIF Collections by Biblissima (here you can search manuscripts by collections from different libraries and museums) And here are some beauties that I found there so far

I don't know how high quality we're talking about here, but the stuff on The French National Library's Gallica service has been good enough quality for my purposes. Link to Gallica main page.

For monkly reasons I usually just search for "horae" (to get books of hours) but obviously you can use any other search terms too. For example "bestiaire" finds various cools things, etc.

And if you don't know French words (I don't; I do not speak any French), you can look up the thing you want on English wikipedia, and then switch the language to French to find the search term.

i don't really want to weight in on the "using big words in your writing is ableist" discourse happening on tiktok because i'm like 90% certain it's an anti-intellectual psyop to stir up drama in online circles to promote the use of ai to summarize literally everything and thus feeding the LLMs and lowering the populace's mistrust of such tools but i also have to say: dictionaries and thesauruses are the most accessible they've ever been. if you use an e-reader of any kind you can look up a word without leaving the page. there's a plethora of online dictionaries and if you just type a word + "meaning" into google it'll usually give you a definition. we used to have pocket dictionaries we used when reading in class. i have two on my shelf right now that i used in high school. stop letting the fascists purposefully misuse anti-ableism rhetoric to trick you into never thinking again.

#this is literally how i learned new words all the time #i read a lot and eventually you pick up context on the way it is used #but it also wasn't uncommon for me to pause and look up the work in the dictionary to be sure #some ppl just want everything spoon fed to them which is a shame #there is no spark of curiosity in discovery??? where is your sense of wonder???
