“Would you like an apple.?”
“ I’M KINDA INCLINED TO SAY yes, but the way you asked that has me wondering. ”
adelaide darling
Adelaide took her plate from him with a soft thank you. Achilles got down off the couch, joining Lady on the floor. She picked up her pizza slice, thinking for a moment at his question. “Anything’s okay with me.” Adelaide admitted. “I doubt we’d be up too much longer, it is awfully late.” Adelaide pointed out. It must have been a little after eleven or so by now.
AS SOON AS ACHILLES LEFT the couch, phil sat down in the spot next to adelaide. he reached over for the remote on the coffee table, nodding a bit with what she said. “ you’re right, maybe just something on tv or something? ” just background noise really. he was so used to this late hour, he always forgot any understanding of time.
adelaide darling
Adelaide wrinkled her nose at him, giggling a little. “I don’t think they’d mind. I think they’d be more confused about why you’re sitting in their beds.” Adelaide pointed out, combing her fingers through Achilles’ fur and placing a kiss on the end of his nose. “Just one for now is okay.” She told him, gently lowering Lady back to the ground and holding her hands out for her plate.
“ YEAH PROBABLY, I LOVE THEM but the point would probably go over their heads. ” dogs didn’t care about much besides being happy and loyalty and being loved and loving back. of course all dogs were different, but those were traits and feelings on average. he nodded when she said one slice and put one on a plate for her before grabbing two for himself and putting them on the other plate. he carried both back over to the couch and handed adelaide her plate. “ did you have a movie or show or something you want to watch? i’m good with anything. ” and he meant anything.

Adelaide smiled up at Phil as he opened the door. “Hi again.” She giggled a little, letting herself in and slipping off her shoes before looking back at him. “Cheese is just fine with me! It’s one of my favorites too.” Adelaide told him sweetly. She walked over to the couch, setting her bag of things down by the one end of it, proceeding to curl up on the other end. Achilles and Lady were almost immediately warming her, giving her kisses and nudging her hands to get her to pet them. Adelaide laughed, wrinkling her nose as she pet both of the dogs, looking up at Phil. “I don’t think you’ll have room on this couch to sit!”
NODDING, GLAD TO KNOW CHEESE was good, phil turned towards the kitchen to get the plates out. cheese was generally the least objectionable pizza, so he really hadn’t been too worried. he looked over in the direction of the couch, seeing both the dogs were already on her. he laughed easily, shaking his head. “ i’m not too worried. i’ll just steal their beds. ” not that that would really bug the dogs any since the couch and, especially, adelaide were more interesting and were better in their opinion. “ it’ll only get worse once you have pizza. ” he turned towards the box and opened it. “ how many slices? ”

Adelaide smiled up at Phil, nodding at the offer. As promised, she finished her drink and went back to her apartment to get her things. Nothing too life changing, just some clothes and her work uniform and some toiletries. She also left a note on the table, in case anyone who had a key came in and saw she was gone. Then she was on her way back to Phil and Bentley’s, shivering a little as she rang their doorbell. Hopefully someone would let her in relatively quickly.
PHIL HAD LEFT THE CADETINA with a pizza not long after adelaide went to get her things. figuring he has time, he took a quick shower to clean work off and he’d just managed to get dressed in a comfortable pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt bentley had brought back for him from one of his hockey excursions. he pulled his wet-damp hair back into a bun as he quickly walked over to the door to open it. “ hello again, ” he said, moving off to the side so she could enter, pulling the door more open with his foot as he finished with the bun. “ i got just cheese figuring it would be the best option? my favorite anyway. ”
bentley eyles
there’s a lot of optimism in phil. it’s something bentley’s always admired. keeping a positive outlook when things get a little rough isn’t something everyone can do. it’s not something bentley can do, which is a big reason why he respects it so much. it’s not easy. when things start to go south, it’s a pessimistic series of jumping to conclusions, making everything so much worse. optimism can sometimes lead you to a dead end, but it’s better to be positive than negative. you have the opportunity to say you did your best; which is all you can do.
of course the topic brought up worry. he’s always worried and will continue to worry about those he cares about. all he wants is for everyone to be alright, but for everyone to be alright at all times is too good to be true. he appreciates phil for trusting him enough, and hopes to thank him if he remembers to. it’s not an easy subject nor something you’d bring up to just anyone. his gaze falls over the golden lab, and he nods again. “and he helps, too. i’m glad that you have him,” he looks back at his friend, holding his breath and sorting through his thoughts. the ‘used to’ is definitely noted. “healing… is long. and difficult. it’s no picnic. and, uh… y’know, what’s important is that you’re trying. it’s— it’s all you can do,” he’s on edge over his words. “you’re a strong guy, phil.”
“don’t worry about that. i wanna be here for you as much as i can.”
THERE’S A WEIGHT LIFTED FROM phil after saying all this. not that he was really trying to keep secrets or anything, but it felt easier to put it all on the table. he’d try to remember this feeling when it came to being open to other people, but he was sure that he’d go back to his usual “not wanting to bother anyone” whenever this came up again. one step at a time. that’s really what all of this ever was. so it would make sense if talking about it ended up being like that too.
he’d heard about it being long before, but for some reason bentley saying it didn’t feel like deja-vu or like a broken record. it felt solidifying and a concept he could choose to focus on. it was weird how it worked like that and he almost felt like he should pay all the years of therapy towards bentley. “ yeah it honestly is all i can do. or all i’ve been able to do. ” it had put him in a better place so far. and maybe that was because he was actually quit literally in a better place and with people that supported what they really didn’t know since he never said. “ i think anyone’s strong when they really have to be. ” and it wasn’t to downplay what bentley said, but phil didn’t feel extraordinary by any means. not that that was really what he was saying. “ thank you. ”
“ i’ll try not to worry, but we know what lead to this conversation happening right now. ” then he took the moment to laugh at how ridiculous he’d been before now. worried over something trivial. at least it felt trivial after being open to bentley with it.
adelaide darling
Adelaide, normally, would have politely declined Phil’s offer. She had always been better with helping others and letting them into her home, not the other way around. She didn’t want to be a burden. However, Adelaide was a little bit tipsy. So she smiled at Phil, shaking her head. “I won’t take your bed, but I think it’d be good for me to get out of the apartment for a while. Besides, I do love Achilles and Lady, and of course I love you two.” She told him with a small smile, taking a sip of her drink. “I’ll go grab some things after I finish my drink, and then I’ll meet you back there, okay?”
PHIL NODDED, IT WAS FAIR enough that she didn’t want to take the bed, but he figured he could keep pushing that point later. because he really didn’t always sleep the best to justify not letting someone sleep on that couch when it made more sense for him to. “ i’ll bring home a pizza and we can watch some movies, ” he added to it, just thankful he didn’t have the closing shift tonight. “ okay, sounds perfect. ”

who makes you feel warm and cozy?
“ THERE’S DEFINITELY A HANDFUL OF people i suppose. literally, probably achilles and lady, but figuratively, i’d say bentley, luke, and adelaide. ”
what colour does one of your idols remind you of?
“ I’D SAY CREAM? THOUGH THAT’S really just the color of his fur so i feel like that might be cheating. this is a weird question. ”

“ EYES ARE ALWAYS A BIG thing for me. i also like hair, usually long, but i don’t exactly hate short or anything. ”
bentley eyles
bentley gives a nod. it’s maybe a little more stiff than he’d been hoping, but if he’s lucky enough, his friend won’t think anything of it. he’ll take phil’s word. awful nights are the work of the devil. he feels for him. laying there, restlessly, all hours of the night until past daybreak without a single wink; a terrible feeling. not too often does it happen to bentley, but those nights where his anxiety wells and spirals— it’s the most horrible thing. he feels bad. “you think tonight’ll be better at all?”
“fair point. no, no, not really. i don’t know what it is. nothing worth worrying over, really. sure it was just some sort’a fluke,” he won’t be making too big of a deal of it. although if it happens again, the story may be different. the topic shifts to something far more serious, and bentley realizes he’s being given an explanation. phil’s laying it out for him. “i… i know there’s kinds of treatments out there… to— to reduce them, but it’s a hard thing to tackle,” he’s trying to choose his words carefully— something he’s most times terrible at. “y’know, phil, if you ever need someone when it gets bad like that, i’m only… only a room away.”
PHIL NOTICED THE STIFFNESS IN bentley’s nod, mostly because he was more sensitive to his reactions since he was so obviously not telling him everything. and he didn’t think too much about it because if bentley was bothered too much, he would say something. they were close enough for that. still he smiled reassuringly at the question, nodding. “ i think so. ” though he could never really know for sure. and he didn’t want his optimism to ruin any chance.
he nods when bentley says not to worry and he believes him. not that he ever didn’t believe bentley, but in the conversation of sleep and worry, he knows skirting over it sometimes is easier than admitting something was wrong to someone else. however, in this case, he knew he didn’t have to worry. whereas now he was giving bentley cause to worry, which was something he didn’t want to do, but by this point he deserved to know it all. “ i’ve tried some of them, i know i should try harder with others, but it’s why achilles is here. not that i’d have never had a dog in my life, but he’s here for that. ” and he couldn’t imagine not having achilles there for that in any degree. “ i wish there was one thing to blame it on, but life used to like to test me apparently. ” and thankfully, it was “used to” and not “still.”
“ i wouldn’t want to ruin your sleep... but it means a lot to know that and i’ll probably take you up on it. ”
adelaide darling
Adelaide frowned a little at his words, looking up from her magazine to answer him when all words got stuck in her throat and her jaw dropped. There Phil was… wearing one of her camisoles. She was shocked that the shirt was still in one piece, but she figured it’d be too stretched out to ever wear again. Despite this, Adelaide couldn’t help but laugh. “Seeing how that shirt is MINE, yeah I think it’s a little tight on you. You’re literally twice my size and a foot taller than me.” Adelaide pointed out, putting her magazine down and giggling a little. “Can you even get that off?”
THE SMIRK THAT CROSSED PHIL’S lips couldn’t be helped when she started laughing and it only widened when she emphasized the word “mine.” “ oh it’s yours, huh... ” he looked down at the camisole across his chest. he finally laughed some before he shrugged. “ i’m not sure, but i do know the straps are digging into my shoulders. ” he was sure he earned the divots they were causing. he started by no so gracefully slipping his arms out of them. “ i hope this wasn’t your favorite one. ”
The first day on [The Avengers] set, everybody was in the same scene. That was tough, but it settled us in. There was me in this big red costume and a cape, but you feel like you kind of fit in — there’s a guy in a metal suit, there’s a guy wrapped in the American flag, there’s another guy who’s green. Finally, I belong!
adelaide darling
Adelaide should have expected him to ask why he was seeing so much of her lately, but her cheeks still went pink in embarrassment. “There’s um… sort of a reason.” Adelaide admitted, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “Travis is gone.” She told Phil, taking another sip of her drink. “And um…. it feels weird to be home right now, so I’m trying to spend less time home, and so now, when I do go home… I’ll be too tipsy to think about how empty the apartment feels and I won’t think twice about sleeping on the couch because the bed is too big.”
PHIL WAS SURE HE’D HEARD something from bentley about travis leaving, but he guessed he never put two and two together that adelaide and him were seeing each other, thus leading to how she felt on her end. he frowned before he started shaking his head. “ why don’t you take a few nights away from there? it’ll be better for you on a few counts and honestly it really sucks going back to that even if you’re tipsy. ” he smiled and her a bit. “ you can take my bed, i barely sleep as it is and a couch isn’t the worst thing i’ve ever had to sleep on. bentley would be happy to see you around and achilles and lady love you. ”

“ IF I WERE TO ASK you out on a date, would your answer be the same as the answer to this question? ”
washington - do you like the rain?
“ YEAH I MEAN I DON’T hate it. even being out in it really. unless it’s just pouring and i really didn’t want to feel like i took an out door shower. there was one time it was warm and up to my ankles in a couple puddles and that was a horrible experience. but rain is always better than no rain. ”
( i also didn’t realize i’ve reblogged the month one before previously and you can find the july answer here from that other anon. )
♔ whoops this one's BETTER
“ I FEEL LIKE SOMETHING MIGHT be wrong with this shirt, ” phil said, stepping out in the living space wearing a lace camisole. it was so tight and small it barely covered his chest and stomach. the bottom of the lace wasn’t touching the top of his jeans. “ does it look a little tight to you? ” he looked genuinely confused, or at least did his best to, for a moment before he ended up smirking and laughing a little.
nate evans
Nate turns to him and gives a fake smile, “Yes it is. Thank you.” He lies as he talks the twently from him. Like he would tell the truth, free money was being handed to him. A simplie lie and he was twently dollars richer.
AFTER THE OTHER GUY CONFIRMED the twenty was his, phil suspected he was lying. but he couldn’t exactly call him out, and he asked anyway. so he let him take it and faced forward again. “ i’d say something about it being busy here, but it’s always busy here, ” he said, already regretting engaging in conversation.
