behold, CupCaine! only chosen one's will get the joke
We're hating on Jax on my blog, what's ur thoughts on the poster and the trailer, Specter? 🎤
ow em gee it's THE softmushroombaby
I'm on that unique side of things in where I really love how well Jax is in terms of his characterization, but my god, I also HATE his narrative, role and execution.
Like, even with the trailer, you can physically see Gooseworx's preference towards a certain character archetype manifest THROUGH Jax, and it's his utilization alongside Pomni's more subtle character growth since episode 8 that only further STRENGTHENS this aspect of his, and my god, I'm not gonna lie.
It's pretty fucking obnoxious. I DO NOT LIKE THAT POSTER, AND I DOUBT MY OPINION WILL CHANGE.
Like, call me a "hater hating because he's a popular character" if you want, but if you've been following me since the beginning of my TADC journey, you'd be well-aware of my relationship with Jax and how he was initially my favorite character out of the cast, until I switched to loving Caine's character because Caine fascinated me more than Jax does.
However, despite Gooseworx's natural talent of writing; Jax, to me, became flat once "They all get guns" dropped. Beyond that, it felt like his narrative was stretched in order to grant him more screentime, and justify the "main character" label he's been given with... which not gonna fucking lie, this was out of fucking NOWHERE.
We did NOT have any indication that he's meant to be the main character alongside Pomni until Goose said so pretty fucking late. AND WE HAD TO BE TOLD ABOUT IT!!! Because this show was set up to feel like EVERYONE gets to be the main character WITH Pomni, because... you know. IT'S AN EPISODIC SHOW FULL OF CHARACTER DRIVEN NARRATIVES.
Or at least, that's how the show was initially described as.
Caine, TO THIS DAY, even with the anticipation of episode 9, feels like we STILL need to see more about this guy because not only was he constantly contradicting himself with every single appearances he's made, there was a HUGE chance of potential for some kind of growth there, either for good or bad. His last words were "Wait-", for crying out loud.
And I was made to believe that he HAD a reason for being branded as the show's main antagonist to the main character...s. This fucking AI feels incomplete, both in a narrative standpoint and a lore perspective because in a way, he is.
So it pisses me off to no end that Caine... DIES before the finale. It feels like being robbed of something.
And the worst part is... I also get the choice as to why he had to die. Episode 8's theme is about regrets and the build up of actions that cause those regrets in the first place, setting up the finale for episode 9 to conclude.
And I'm still holding on to a false hope that he WILL return in some way, shape or form because despite that, it still feels like this shouldn't be his end. Something. ANYTHING.
But Jax? I've long since lost interest in what he could potentially offer to the table, because we've seen everything he has to offer. He's been shown to be an ass, why he's an ass, and he's also been shown to be sympathetic already. However, the most important part to ask here, is what more does he have to offer, besides more context?
Where am I going with this, exactly? It leads to the question of me asking "What does Jax even do in the show to deserve the "main character" label".
What does Jax do to justify Pomni liking him so much, to consider him as her friend through and through, despite him constantly antagonizing her everytime? They had ONE episode about this 'friendship', and how Jax tears it apart as he faces an inner conflict by his own volition. But that's just it. It's one episode showcasing the potential budding friendship, built out of a shaky foundation from the previous episode, filled with subtext and character friction, and then it was violently squashed off by one of the reciprocating parties in the end.
So you can barely even call it a "friendship", yet Pomni has been shown to go out of her way to try and reform one with him by the next succeeding episodes because... they need to stick together...? coughcough wow if only there was someone in the show who needed AND wanted that
What kind of ultimate purpose does Jax have, that he's the one getting the show's attention, while Caine was shafted and killed before he was able to get a chance to complete a character arc? Or get a redemption? Is Jax a deus ex machina character to make up for his past actions? Dear god, I fucking hope not.
What did Jax truly do to justify himself as the main character? That he was suddenly boosted towards a pedestal that he didn't have, or even implied, in earlier episodes?
Everything that was set up prior now seems so misleading, that I felt like I wasted an entire season for it in the hopes of... being rewarded for following along.
Because I followed a show about humans adapting to their circumstances and potentially, even showing that human empathy extends beyond just the humans, but also the AIs. And it leads to potential budding relationship of building trust, understanding, and most of all, a community that no longer discriminates and learns to accept. That despite the rough terrain it gets there, the ride will eventually be worthwhile.
That I would find meaning in a stagnant life.
But... guess I was wrong in that regards, huh? Can you blame me for being optimistic?
If you like Jax, then that's fine. Go sing his name, or theorize about his backstory because by all means, he's not a bad character. And Michael Kovach's line deliveries only help to solidify his position in the fandom right now.
But I just feel soooooo conflicted about Jax as a whole. My brain is violently shifting from liking him because he had compelling moments, to detesting him because I feel like he robbed me blind.
Jax's greatest sin as a character is that he's the creator's pet. And that turned him from a genuinely likeable asshole character, to an obnoxious waste of narrative space and screentime.
Goose was right. In the end, only the strongest Jax fans would survive this show, and I'm not one of them.
While I somewhat agree on this, I'd like to dearly remind that Caine wasn't exactly all pure, either.
Not just within episode 8 context where he becomes a full-on villain, but in a general sense. It's clearly established that Caine is selfish. Yes, he does not understand humans. Yet, he makes no conscious effort to do so, even when he's being given FEEDBACK by the crew. And this is more than apparent in Episode 5 where he panics that the humans don't like his adventures, and in episode 6 where he's straight up saying he doesn't like pulling from the suggestion box, and makes a half-assed excuse to justify his dislike towards it.
...HOWEVER.
Caine has TWO qualities that we've been shown to be eligible for character redemption. 1) first and foremost is that we've been shown that he's willing to adapt and improve. I've pointed this out before that in episode 4, once Pomni claimed that she didn't like jumpscares and asked to tone down the horror factor (with some added scolding from Zooble), Caine CHANGED the entire adventure to something "normal" AT THE VERY LAST SECOND, as he takes Gangle's suggestion.
or Episode 3, where he exclaims that he made a "MA-TOOR adventure for Zoobles only", but added a completely separate area where you get to chill and have tea with the kind ghost lady who was murdered by her husband. How has Ragatha and Gangle not commented about this being thoughtful on Caine's part??
And even as far back to episode 1, we are shown that he was always improving his adventure qualities, that is until episode 6 where he just stops caring because why even bother at that point.
Episode 5 is the last time we see a proper adventure setting where Caine still tried giving a damn. But unfortunately, even AI has it's limits, and his is pushed to the point where he rehashes an old adventure, just so he could convince himself that he's not unlovable.
And 2) is that Caine's whole character was established to parallel/specifically cater with Pomni's ongoing development. When Pomni gets better, Caine gets worse. Their designs are a Jester and a Ringmaster. Both trying to heed the ensemble's worries and giving feedback, only for them to have completely different results due to how they tackle the issues. Caine was locked away and abandoned, Pomni liked exploring abandoned things.
The show even had this whole "Blue and red" theming to it going on as early as the PILOT, but it goes fuck all and throws that away once episode 7 has concluded. The most blue and red thing you'll get now is just Caine's glitching eye colors and the dangling carrot stick of "Abel.AI".
Caine is the digital personification of the saying, "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel it's warmth" to the highest degree, and it baffles me that no one notices.
It baffles me to the highest fucking degree that POMNI, THE CHARACTER SET UP TO BE THE MOST EMPATHETIC OF THE CAST, doesn't. notice.
As if Episode 3 wasn't this HUGE deal about "In this world, the worst thing you can do is make someone feel unwanted or unloved".
What the fuck happened to THAT??
I'll tell you what happened to that: It got sidelined to hype up Jax's character, that's what. Even if her extending the olive branch doesn't work the second, the third, or the fourth time, Pomni chooses to waste her energy towards this... giant rabbit manchild who's actively making choices to sabotage any attempt of connection. She smiles, when he only gives her a sneer or downright frown.
Meanwhile the very guy who WANTS to belong and achieve his purpose, who has openly admitted to just wanting to HELP, gets NONE OF THAT. No pity, no attempts at a genuine conversation beyond saying more than one sentence, nothing.
The most we get is her ragebaiting, and Caine crashing out because of her final say on the matter. Because Zooble needs their "I f[@#$!]ing hate Caine" speech to feed into the guy's insecurities even further.
Yeah. Um, what happened to, "In this world, the worst thing you can do is make someone feel unwanted or unloved", Pomni? Is one sentence really the best you can do?
Everything since episode 5 and beyond feels like a huge misstep towards the overall narrative. It really feels like there's this manufactured giant wedge between Pomni and Caine to specifically PREVENT them from interacting, because Episode 2 and 3 set up something PRETTY huge for some kind of emotional payoff so early on, but the conflict HAS to arise for the plot first.
Jax was Pomni's wedge, and Zooble was Caine's wedge. With these two in between, the narrative did not give any leeway to showcase an ATTEMPT to genuinely communicate the core message that episode 3 was trying to tell us, because I guess that's reserved for episode 9, where it's too fucking late anyways.
Now, we as the audience and the circus crew get to stew in a giant boiling pot of frustration and regret. And somehow, we're meant to feel sorry towards the cast about it because OH NO, WE ACCIDENTALLY KILLED CAINE AND NOW HE'S FUCKING DEAD, LIFE IS MEANINGLESS.
I swear to god, if the "The worst thing you can do is make someone feel unwanted or unloved" is directed towards Jax for episode 9, I am going to fucking lose it.
NOTHING ABOUT HIM IN THE ENTIRE SHOW HAS PROVEN THAT HE DESERVES THAT FUCKING LINE TO BE APPLIED TO HIM, AND ALL THE MEANING THAT THAT LINE CARRIED WILL BE INANE.
NOTHING.
I have this gut feeling that the show will try to pull more strings one last time to shine Jax in a sympathetic light again. Because how else are you going to make "find meaning in a stagnant life" relevant at this point. The heavy Jax marketing, that damn poster, him being shown in a flashback with Ribbit and Ragatha's line overlaid on top of it, it SCREAMS "pleaseeeeee sympathize with Jax" in bold red letters, and that the justification is probably Pomni "finally breaks down Jax's walls" or some shit like that.
Can we just kill Jax already bro I can't do this shit anymore...

Day 6: Prophecy
Wow, that's quite a number of specifically marked boxes huh? almost like a circle could have been used, after all we see it appear in 3 different sizes in the background, or even an X but it wasn't. haha, what if some maniac did it? ˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶˚.⋆✶ My first post of traditional art, any advice on how to make future ones look better is welcome
FUCKKKK I NEVER REALIZED THIS DAMNIT SPAMTON 🤦I sort of like the idea of the trash zone being what used to be Big Shot Autos since there’s no way he could have moved those cars on his own. And they’re situated so specifically in front of the store. It’d just be yet another thing he lost, presumably from Queen’s still in progress roller coaster construction. She’d totally just pave over his shit and not give a fuck…
Sorry, but I'm trying to understand that last post. Since he didn't check if Spamton was alright, why does that conflict with throwing Spamton when they reunite?
Not criticizing, just curious about different people's takes on how they'd reunite. (You're one of my top - if not THE top - I think of when thinking about them reuniting.)
I'm not saying he wouldn't.
I have a lot to say so I'll try to organise my thoughts, I also want to add all of this are just my interpretation of things, and I don't hate the type of comics I'll talk about:
Assuming Tenna is good :
I maybe could have been more clear sorry. But I'm not saying Tenna wouldn't get mad at Spamton, and if you interpret him being mad as him getting violent, go on.
I could see people thinking I didn't think Tenna would get mad and explain it by sayin "Spamton left/lied that's why he's reacting like that !"
That's portraying Tenna as right and Spamton as deserving of this.
And that is assuming Tenna didn't do anything wrong.
That's what I'm criticizing :/
The thing is I've only seen TWO comics where Spamton gets mad (And one of them he isn't even violent), of course I haven't seen every piece of Spamtenna fanart in the world but there is a huge predominance of Tenna getting mad and not Spamton.
And clearly Spam doesn't like Tenna !
In chapter 2 and the Sweepstakes he keeps saying Tenna's a criminal and all, and, even if he's lying to tarnish Tenna's image, this shows he WANTS to harm him in some way, even just socially.
The canon of Chapter 3 :
Ignoring the meme about harming Spamton (which I will go back on later) I understand a lot of these comics stem from the secret cutscene in Chapter 3 where Tenna sprays Spamton with insulation foam.
That also explain why a lot of those comics start with Spamton casually talking.
And you can take this same cutscene to say me saying Spam would get mad too is incorrect.
But I think this scene does more for their reunion than people think, especially on the side of Spam (helped by the fact that he actually recognize Tenna lol)
Spamton enters the scene after Tenna feels shameful for keeping one of Spam's pipis.
And the first thing he says is "You kept it, you really do care."
In that moment he seems pleasantly surprised.
After leaving we know he started to hold a grudge against Tenna
(either because of what happened in that phone call or because , like I said, Tenna wasn't there for him)
seeing that Tenna kept a pipis showed him he was wrong !
Also, side note but taking this scene as an exemple of Tenna getting mad at Spamton works only if you assume he lied and DID recognize him, otherwise he's just worried his daughter will get attacked by a giant rat.
"Spamton harm is funny" :
It's become kind of a meme to harm Spamton, to "throw him against a wall", which was in part started by Fangamer and possibly Toby himself.
And I see why it would be funny ! This lil guy is very throwable I have to admit !
But it came to a point it just makes me sad.
Because, like...
What did Spamton do ?
And I know it's not that deep but bear with me.
What wrongdoing ? What crime did Spamton commit to deserve this level of animosity ?
And I'm not talking just about irl, in the game too ?
What did he do ?
I'm not saying he did NOTHING wrong. He's a scammer, a virus, a spam. He crashed Noel's computer (trying to send her a gift mind you (proving further, gifting a pipis means something to Spamton), he lied to Tenna about getting him big (again we don't have the full story but I'll count it).
On the other hand we have Swatch reselling old Spamton stock for a profit while kicking him out every time he comes back like he has no rights to be there, and if he ended in the trash with nothing this means they had to keep EVERYTHING (not just the bowties) so he absolutely has the rights to claim it back, Swatch also allegedly threw him into acid (It's supported by a few of Spam's dialogue) but even if you don't believe in this theory there's more.
If you ask any of the Addisons about Spamton they'll treat him like he's a taboo subject, saying they don't talk about "THAT" around here, or saying they don't even know who he is.
The only way to make them acknowledge him is after you defeat Spamton neo (so they know something happened, they know he disappeared.) they'll appear in the Dump (so they KNOW he lived there) and admit they were dead jealous of him and decided to stop talking to him.
And, no, I don't think Spam thought he was too good for them and that's why they left.
One of the Addisons says:
"Why did HE deserve this ? We were all so jealous of him, We stopped going out with him. I mean, wasn't he a big shot ? He didn't need us anymore, did he ...?"
He admits they were jealous. And the "did he...?" at the end, to me, feels like a form of reassurance.
"Did he ? No no... tell me he didn't" because at this point they all saw him spiraling into madness while digging in thrash and now... he's gone.
For all we know about what Spamton did (before meeting us in chapter 2, I know he did try to take Kris' soul (I can talk about what I think of that in another post iyl)) I don't think any of it explains why people treat him this way.
This man was born a Spam something no one likes by default, has been led on my the "voice inside the phone", accepted to be a puppet for promises of grandeur, left with absolutely nothing, lived in the trash for years, slowly went insane, every single one of his friends turned against him because he was successful and when he realizes Tenna cared enough to keep one of his gifts he was met with terror as his old friend didn't even recognize him.
Thinking about that make me sad, and seeing people rip apart their Spamton pluches for fun (I know I'm getting a bit emotional but even without that, why pay 38$ for a push just to destroy it) and Tenna "making him pay" by harming him I feel even worse.
Didn't he pay enough already ?
Closing thoughts :
Sorry this is a long one again 😅
But that should explain everything that goes though my mind when I see people/Tenna harming Spam without further explanation.
I think this man deserve like ONE good thing in his life for once.
fangamer doesn't ship to my country....WHAT DO I DO!?!
So I've heard of this recent trend of "Ralsei Plush owners VS Spamton Plush owners" Where the Ralsei plushies are doted on and pampered while the Spamton plushies are tortured and mistreated. I even found this tiktok account where they were just straight up torturing their Spamton plushie until they destroy him?! I know in this life we all have free will. And it's not my place to come down on how others treat their plushies, providing they don't harm themselves or others or do anything wrong but... I may be a grown woman, but I've always had a soft spot for toys. And to see such mistreatment of a Spamton plushie truly breaks my heart... ;w; Like plushies were meant to be snuggled and loved, not bruised and abused! TwT Anyhow I have no malice or illwill to the Spamton plush owners who like to torture their plushies... I'm just expressing a childish opinion like the womanchild I am lmbo. ....On other news I've been doing some sewing lately, and perhaps I could show it off sometime soon if I'm feeling it. (I've made a cross-stitch Tenna picture and a turtleneck shirt for my Spamton plushie! I've just started another Spamton based embroidery that I plan to incorperate into a piece of clothing for my Spamton plushie lol)
i know it's not as hyped as when the plush came out, but i was finally able to get him
i promise I won't pour milk on him and throw him against the walls

oh wow, i didn't expect anyone to watch it nowadays. hope you won't be disappointed
tbh, I'm kinda obsessed with this anime (at least to the point of catching hyperfixation on it every now and then), and because the plot leaves many questions unanswered, and for some reason i think that answers might be in the manga/novels/CD drama, i've been trying to find scans of them occasionally since watching it the first time. but because of the country I live in, I can't just buy them on amazon or ebay or anywhere, so I tried torrenting... that worked for some time, but the only valuable thing I've found is concept book scans, and now the government blocks every working tracker there was....
okay, I just wanted to let it all out. Sorry for infodumping you just because you reblogged my post, and also sorry for any possible mistakes...
