i am not a child now, i can take care of M Y S E L F . i mustn’t let them down now, mustn’t let them see me cry.
i’m fine… i’m fine…
It was supposed to be a normal day. But once again, normal in Storybrooke turned out to be anything but. She went into Jack’s room like she did every Friday to dust things off and clean up. But there was someone in there. Immediately her hand went to the knife holstered on her thigh. She looked like Jack. Sounded like Jack. “Do not use that name.” Aphrodite’s words came out in more of a growl than she’d intended. “Who the hell do you think you are? What kind of sick joke is this?”
And, with that, the awe of being able to be seen by someone fades pretty quickly; it was soon replaced with a bit of pity for this poor girl, and apprehension-- she'd seen first hand what Aphrodite could do with that knife, and it was not pretty. The winter spirit holds up her hands in the age old 'you hurt me and you're kinda being a huge jerk because I'm surrendering fully right now and have no weapons' signal. She chose not to comment on the name factor, instead addressing other issues--
"Trust me, I'm not playing a joke. This time, anyway. All I knew when I woke up was that my name was J--that word Frost. And when I actually woke up, you were there at the cemetery. I knew I had to protect you. True story."

"So, you finally can see me, huh? Really took ya long enough." A small chuckle follows her words, smile curving on her lips. She feels the same tug in her gut as usual, but magnified ten fold, as she looks at this girl and goes to try and shake her hand, only to pull back as if electrocuted and offer a small wave instead, trying to play it off-- "Yeah, uh--I'm Jack. And I . . . I think that I'm supposed to protect you."
"Say something nice at my funeral, please."
"Jack, don’t talk like that. You’re not going to die tomorrow…"
"What really? You’re going to be mad if I do generic stuff?” Effy grabbed a piece of paper from her back pocket and unfolded it. “Doctor Hopper said that I should do this, I can’t really remember why. But I carry it with me now… as a reminder of how fleeting life is…”
"Nah, not really just if you do like . . . I don't wanna be a greeting card, y'know? Moms would make me out to be a greeting card or try and soften the blow and . . . I dunno. I want a real one." Her eyes land on the paper, and widen a bit. "I . . . Effy."
"Say something nice at my funeral, please."
"Jack, don’t talk like that. You’re not going to die tomorrow…"
"Just promise me, okay? I . . . if something happens to me, with what we do, I want you to be the one who talks. And . . . none of that generic stuff, alright? I deserve better."
This must be what it’s like to be my friend
NOTHING’s gonna [harm] you — not while I’m around.
"Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses."
And they lived happily ever after in the land of denial that is my headcanon.
This girl, this princess had Esme forgetting she wasn’t just like her. As their hands touched, and Esme lead them to the floor, she felt as if she had been jolted with electricity. It was a feeling she didn’t think she’d mind feeling again. Taking the lead she smiled again at Jack "You didn’t look like you were enjoying yourself over there, do you not like the ball being thrown in your honor?”
This wasn't like her. Jack was the one who stood in the corners and left early, not one to accept a random invitation to dance from just any noble . . .It was easier than it should have been, falling into step right with the girl. Usually, by now, she had crushed one or three of the other persons toes. "To be honest, I don't care for balls at all. Most of the guests aren't as . . . interesting as you are."
A small grin graces her lips for a moment as the princess curtsied clumsily. "M’lady, I must say you look wonderful, would you care for a dance?" She held out her hand, smiling softly at the princess. If the princess thought she was nobility, she would be happy to play the part.
"I'd love to." Jack found herself saying, grin widening as she touches her hand to the blondes. It was like a course of electricity was running through their skin, and the fact that she was horrid at dancing never once occurred to her. Anything to keep this woman looking at her just like that--

"It’s always been you and me… did you see mom’s read part of your eulogy the other day? And we sang last night…” The lump in her throat was only getting bigger. “I thought I saw you—” She cut herself off and took a breath. "How did this happen?" Aphrodite groaned and flopped face first onto her bed. “It’s supposed to be a happy day. It’s C h r i s t m a s Jack…”
It was so irritating being basically invisible and mute, if she hadn't dealt with it her entire existence . . . or, what she thought was her entire existence, anyway . . . well, she'd have gone insane by now. "I'm right here. It's still you and me--" Jack found herself saying, hand dropping on the others shoulder before her eyebrows furrowed and a sense of confusion came over her. Maybe she should just go back to that room at the end of the hall--her head was starting to hurt.
She doesn’t think much as she walks into the ball, acting like she belongs there, as if she is just like them. Her eyes scan the room, looking for her sister, until a girl catches her eye. She’s the most beautiful girl Esme has ever seen, the princess just radiates beauty. Glancing around quickly she makes her way to the girl. “Princess.”
It was her first ball. A sort of coming-of-age party, if you would. Jack hadn't even wanted to go, but Effy . . .Aphrodite had seemed so excited, that a night of corsets (no heels, she preferred flats) had seemed worth it. Instead of embarrassing her family by dancing, Jack had stuck by the wall, pushing a piece of hair behind her ear as a ray of gold catches her eyes. The girl was unique, looking different than any lady Jack had seen before. Instead of passing, a clumsy curtsey and shy smile immediately followed the greeting. "Hello, m'lady."

Getting up, the brunette walked to the window, her eyes scanning the Christmas-ified town in front of her "Our first Christmas without you Jack… I miss you…”
There it was, again. The tug in her stomach and chest that left her feeling breathless when she looked at this girl. That weird longing and sad feeling that . . . A hand reaches out on her own, stopping just above Aphrodite's shoulder "Hey, kiddo, Christmas isn't a time for sads--"
