What are your thoughts on how Buffy's relationship with Angel affected her throughout the show? I've seen comments about how Buffy's views on soulless vampires (esp Spike) as incapable of love stems from Angelus' utter cruelty or even that Angel made her buy that the person is totally separate from the demon, and it annoyed me because it ignores the reality of a soulless vampire's capability of love. Her traumatic experiences with Angel were obviously such defining events to her though, so I'm curious how you view it.

I mean. she does not totally separate soulless from the demon lol. there is an entire episode dedicated to this even. “I know everything that YOU did because YOU did it to me” spells this out pretty clearly

irt spike, I am sure angel had something to do with it, but spike does that fine on his own plenty. like he flat out tells buffy and angel he’s going to torture drusilla until she takes him back. he confesses his feelings to buffy while he has her forcibly chained up after knocking her out and threatening to sic drusilla on her if she doesn’t reciprocate. like did angel have some role to play in buffy’s perception of spike, sure! but let’s not be disingenuous and act like he was doing the heavy lifting lmfao

in MY opinion, buffy isn’t able to accept that spike loves her, or that soulless vampires can love in general, for so long because it means accepting that soulless angel did love her :) and he still did terrible things to her :) and that love isn’t always pure and good and can’t save u and will cause destruction :) etc

the scoobies are bad friends for resurrecting buffy, and specifically the subtype that they are bad friends for believing buffy is in hell bc how could they think she'd go to hell that's where bad people go!!!! well fortunately i have some news for you which is that we are talking about the 90s tv show buffy the vampire slayer and not the christian bible. "hell" in the buffyverse is not the christian hell where sinners weep and wail and gnash their teeth or whatever it's just a Place. a place where they think she has ended up because she JUMPED INTO A PORTAL THERE!! i know the metaphysics of it all don't necessarily make a huge amount of sense but like. you can see why they would think this

this is 100% just a petty hater moment. but pisses me off when people make a huge thing out of buffy's last line in the show being "spike". like ok. well good thing tv is a visual medium and there are in fact things that happen between that line and the cut to end credits that are like. thematically and character-wise important. this one mainly pisses me off bc whatever your opinions on shipping are, buffy and spike's relationship is simply not the most important thing in the entire show and it fucks me off when people treat it like it is.

the "spike is a woman"/lesbian spike thing did kind of make me want to blow my brains out sorry. do i have to start paying people to think about Actual Women. like YEAH i GUESS if you remove everything from any kind of context than anything can mean anything???? christ. in general actually i think people do make out spike to be wayyyyy more queercoded than he actually is in a way that allows them to obfuscate his genuinely very real misogyny.
