Can someone edit in Korra and Asamiās faces onto this
A young paleontologist may have discovered a record of the most significant event in the history of life on Earth.
hey, @bunjywunjy - this might be your jam (and any other dinosaur enthusiasts, itās a heck of a read)
man thatās not just a heck of a read itās fuckin GROUNDBREAKING is what it is!
this dude actually found a large fossil deposit that was created not just close to, but actually DURING THE K-PG EXTINCTION EVENT.
ITāS LITERALLY A WINDOW BACK IN TIME TO THE CHICXULUB IMPACT, AND TURNS OUT IT WAS WORSE THAN ANYTHING WE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE IMAGINED
itās a geologic snapshot of the apocalypse.
reading the full article is certainly a trip, and to summarize for those who are intimidated by longer reads:
- chicxulub is the given name for the meteor that struck/initiated the event
- the paleontologist within is described as making groundbreaking discoveries of multiple species every day, but many of his peers discount him because theyāre grouchy old dudes he accidentally had a fragment of a turtle bone involved in a larger reconstruction of a fossil this one time and they wonāt let him live it down.
- the extinction event was so fast and so destructive, this guy describes this particular dig-site as being so densely layered with dead and dying creatures, there is a lot of organic tissues that have been preserved, and he is able to even discern that many of the marine and freshwater fish may have still been alive as they were buried due to molten glass being found in their gills, implying they were still attempting to breathe.
- they looked into exactly when and how this could have happened, having freshwater and marine animals stacked on top of mammals and larger dinosaurs (including an amazing deinonychus forearm discovery he was able to match to feather fossils he was finding atop the pile), and rather it being the initial tsunami, they are fairly sure that it was caused by a seiche of catastrophic proportions, which would have been set off within the first hour of the event. denser and larger creatures sunk to the bottom, leaving lighter debris like leaves, small fish, feathers, and molten glass on the surface.
summary: terrifying!
This is fucking incredible
Holy SHIT!
Itās hard to explain being asexual to someone, because generally they wonāt understand. If you sayĀ āsex is grossā theyāll sayĀ ābut what about it is grossā. Theyāll sayĀ ābut you want to get married and have kidsā andĀ ābut you want to date donāt you? youāre attracted to people?āĀ
And I am attracted to people. But my attraction is Different, and hereās how.Ā
To a lot of people, attraction is like a craving. A sudden pull in the gut, your groin going Ding Ding Ding We have a winner! Letās have sex with that one!Ā But itās not like that for me. Iāve never felt that, not once. But I feel attraction. My attraction isĀ āwow, theyāre really cuteā andĀ ātheir personality is so niceā andĀ āthey make me laughā. I still feel love (keep in mind that Iām talking about asexual, not aromantic), itās just not tinged with the overwhelming desire to kiss and hump and have sex. When Iām in a relationship, or want to be in a relationship, itās moreĀ āwow, I really like this person, they make me happy, I think we could do great things together and be wonderfulā, and thatās normal, but there is generally an undercurrent with other people thatās also sayingĀ āand we could have sex together and I bet theyāre gorgeousā. Now, itās hard for me to explain this because I donāt feel that.Ā I donāt know what goes through the head of someone who experiences sexual attraction, but itās something like that.Ā
When a non-ace person looks at chocolate, they get a craving. When I look at chocolate, itās just chocolate. I might choose to eat it (Iām pretty sex-repulsed, so probably not) or I might not, but I donāt need it, itās not important to me, the forefront (or back) of my mind isnātĀ āOh my god I need that chocolate I want that chocolateā. And non-ace people donāt feel sexual attraction all the time, I understand that; but I donāt feel it everĀ and thatās the difference.Ā
This is said really nicely, thanks for putting into words what I have a hard time with sometimes.

If I were to start drawing fan art...
What characters/series/scenes would you like to see in my style???
Those damn live action remakes.
The amazing thing of these live action remakes is they take years of work and effort, teams of hundreds of animators, artist, scientists, actors, voice actors, movement capture experts, computer nerds, thousand or millions of dollars, fields full of super modern and expensive computers and theyrāe still not even close to recreate the magic that one person could create just with a pencil and paper decades ago.
I donāt get the appeal for them, I always hear people sayĀ ā I wnat to see how it looksā, but I really donāt.Ā
You see, I really do believe that animation itās the superior storytelling device, just for example, animators were seamlessly telling stories half a century ago, that letās say ālive action filmmakersā are just now being able to tell, so for me every time Disney announces a new Live action anything it really feels like a down grade, by mere concept alone, leaving aside the fact that they all suck. Yes, they all have sucked, some more than other, Iāll even admit that 2016ā²s Jungle Book has some merit, but at the moment that the characters started singing Bare necessities the movie started to ask me to compare it with itās far superior 1967 full animated counterpart, and it losses in comparisson, Iām sorry, jut a gif of dancing hand-drawn Baloo has more charisma that his digital Doppelganger on his entire film.
The Lion King itās the worst of them, I havenāt even watched it and yet, I already did, beacuse Iāve watched the original Lion King and Iāve watched lions documentaries in National Geographic. The producers have said that they will try to stay as close to the original as possible⦠Then whatās the point?, just to, See how it would look?, do as I said, play the audio of the original movie, tune Animal planet on the TV and use your imagination.Ā
Lion King itās my favorite movie. Notice how I didnāt said favorite animated movie, of favorite disney movie, I said favorite PERIOD!, so when they announced the remake I felt like something inside of me broke,Ā figuratively of course, I now itās just a movie and it wonāt kill me of course, but that movie itās so important to me that I felt betrayed. As soon as I heard it I imagined the worst, and when the first trailer dropped, big was my surprise when I found out that I was 100% right about everything. the beautiful and vibrant colours of the original classic were replaced with an ugly mix of grays and browns, the landscapes although technically beautiful, donāt even compare to the original ones, those beautiful paintngs that I could frame and hang on the wall of my office (If I had an office). And the characters. the big problem of this movies is that in the mind of the creatives they in a sense replace the āwhatsā whit the āhowsā, they canāt really think what the characters are, but how do they have to look in order to look real.Ā
Rafiki.
As soon as you se this design you have a pretty good idea of what this character is, he is a baboon, but he has some of the features that you would find on old humans, but theyre not explicit enoguh to look human and make the design creepy, the point is that you know this guy is suposed to look old.he has a beard, itās perfectlyĀ easy to recognize that it is not only part of his natural fur, itās a beard and if I ask anyone to draw a wise man, thereās a 99% chance that the drawing will include a berad, so, now you know that heās not only old but wise. He has a staff wich not only supports thatĀ āoldā theory but it makes him look important, thetres fruit on his staff and that makes you think of when have you seen a staff like that, and you wouldnt be crazy to think of chamans, priests, witch doctors, etc, so you now know from the moment you first see him that this character is suposed to be some kind of āold wise chaman baboonā, and then the most important part of the design, the face factions and expressions that tell you the personality, the long mouth and the shape, the eyes etc, now you know that this characters is goofy, he smiles a lot, he is a funny character, and you only had to look at him for a couple of seconds. Now thisā¦
Is a baboon. And itās impressive, I mean, in reality heās nothing more than a bunch os ones and zeros, but it looks so real, but tahts all, he is just a baboon, and thereās nothing bad with that, I like baboons as much as anyone, but this picture doesnāt tell me much about him,I mean, he looks old I guess, iāve seen old dogs and he kind of remind me of them, but thatās it, I canāt really read his expresion, he looks angry? his eyes are kind of scary and unexpressive, thereās not much of a personality here. Heck, Iāve seen the trailer and I didnāt even see a staff, so, I really donāt know anything about this guy except that he is a real life baboon and probably old, Iām not even sure about the part of old because Iām not a baboon expert. If I showed this picture to someone who doesnāt know about the remake, they wonāt thinkĀ āOh my god! Itās Rafiki!ā they will thinkĀ ālook, a baboon!ā.Ā
When I see the original Rafiki I want to sit down whit him and talk about life, and philosophy, and the universe and ask him for advice, I want him to iluminate me. When I see the new Rafiki I want to run away becouse he reminds me of thos videos of monkeys being violent and throwing feces and I want none of that.
Thatās about the animated parts of these movies, now with regard to the actors, Iāll just say that animated humans are always better, they squish and squash and act better, and no human alive, no matter how hard he tries could give a better acting than a drawing, as no human can do what a cartoon does⦠Except for Jim Carreyā¦
The thing with those characters is that Ā they were never supposed to look ārealā if that were the case the Aladdin producers would have made it a live action from the beggining, just make Robbin Williams do some push ups and paint him blue, or the Lion King producers would have went to africa and record real lions and just animate their mouths back home, or animate them on a moreĀ ārealisticā style, then you would have an argument to remake The Lion King, but no, the people who made those movies work thir whole life to pertect the art of animation, The Lion King or Aladdin or Dumbo or whatever movie you want to mention, looks exactly as it had to look.
And itās not only Disney, Iām agianst of the concept of live action remakes, no matter who, when they anounce the avataris going to have one, I wonder why, itās apparently going to be a series, so itās not like theyāre adapting the story to another format, that would have some merit, but I donāt get why is this being made, the original show was pretty much perfect, and I donāt see how adding āreal humansā is going to improve it. I actually see the other scenario happening. I know the creators are behind it, but I really donāt get why
And every time one of these remakes is announced, it feels to me like an insult, like if a bunch of snobs āreal adult filmmakersā saw this kid shows and tought to themselfs, oh this is really good, but itās a shame that it is a childrens cartoons, I know, Iāll take this great story good characters and exellent world building, And Iāll make aĀ ārealā movie or series, or whatever, so I can now take it seriously.Ā
So this trend itās not exclusive to Disney, but It is Disney, they are the ones who are releasing not two, but three live action remakes on one year, pretty much telling the world, yes, this is what we do now.
Most people donāt really like these remakes, most people just like remembering the originals through these remakes. The most complains Iāve heard of the last couple of these movie is when they change things, and those should be the most important parts, those are the parts that saves those movies of being a complete exercise on irrelevance, for people itās not about improving these movies, itās about having a new experience with the same movie, and we donāt need these remakes to do that, you get the same effect watching these movies in the jappanese dub, and itās fun as hell, or setting your tv on black and white.Ā
And If disney really want to sell us the same movies again, they should own it and re-release them on 3D like with the lion king some years ago, or even better be more creative, take a page out of George Lucasā book and make special editions, but good ones, add more material, sell them as the directors cut or soomething, release the original version of Lilo and Stich without the changes made to the third act on the plane scenes, make a Hunchback of Notre Dame with the original ending of the novel, that would be a bummer but it would be interesting to see, heck, Iāve always dreamed to see a 3 hours, traditionally animated version of The Lion King that includes all the songs from the broadway show. And that could apply to all the other movies that have a broadway counterpart. Just unlike George Lucas, donāt make these versions the only ones aliable.
Or try again with the sequels, just try to make them good this time. Or as a lot of people has said a a joke, make animated remakes of classic live action films, they say it as a joke, but just imagine the posibilities those could bring, when people said, āI wonder how it will lookā now they would have a reason, make a Don BluthāsĀ style animated āGangs of New Yorkā, with mouses and cats, that would be a crazy assĀ āAn american tailā spin off, or do something more serious if you want. When the Harry Potter movies were going to be made, Steven Spielberg was one of the directors that they chose to make it, but, at the end they didnāt go whit him, because he wanted to do them animated, and if a genie asked me what three movies that never were I wanted him to make appear in front of my eyes, those would be my dreamed āThe Lion King. The broadway editionā, a completed version of Richard Williamsā āThe cobbler and the thiefā and āThe animated Harry Potter seriesā Just to see how it looks.
P.S.
The argument of bringing these stories to new generations is BS, it would only apply in a world whitout DVDs, Blu Rays, Netflix, that streaming service that Disney wants to make, bootlegs, cable tv and fricking VHSs, thanks to those as a kid I watched Pinocchio, and Bambi, and I never for a second suspected that those movie were made half a century before I was born. So those classics were doing pretty well with new generations whitout the help of your remakes. Thank you very much.

Bi discourse : no you are not bi woman are just very close to other women you are hetero
Ace discourse: no you are not ace you are just afraid of sex you havenāt found the right guy
Me, biromantic asexual: yeah suuuuure
Iāve been thinking about this post. And how almost no matter what you do someone somewhere will try to claim youāre straight, and itās why I say all queer people suffer because of heteronormativity. Because itās such the norm that aces, lesbians, bi peeps, and others are treated like they are just confused, or itās all a phase and in the end theyāll just liking guys (or the assumed āāopposite genderāā).
It reminds me of the post that asks why gender neutral clothes are always masculine. Because again male is treated like the default.
And if youāre a woman and you arenāt catering to the default, on one or more of these fronts youāre going to have to put up with a lot of shit.

Repeat after me: - Veganism is not affordable - Veganism is not cruelty free - Veganism is not the best choice for everyone
Repeat after me -Iām an idiot and wrong. -Veganism can be made affordable. -Veganism is fucking cruelty free. Thatās what itās all about. - Veganism is the best choice for everyone, if everyone did it. -Iām a fucking asshole for making this completely wrong text post and should shut the hell up now.
Exploiting undocumented immigrants, and other workers is cruelty free? Nearly 500,000 children as young as six harvest 25 percent of US crops.
But I guess brown people donāt fucking matter.Ā
People are literally starving in South America because all the Quinoa crop is being exported mainly for white vegans who want to live ācruelty-freeā but donāt care about brown people as much as they do about animals.
plus, 4 of the 8 most common food allergies (soy, wheat, peanuts, and tree nuts) are common vegan substitutes.
i would literally starve to death if i couldnāt eat cheese or meats because my body cannot process nuts as they are too rough on my intestines and cause inflammation
Veganism is incredibly expensive depending on where you live, mostly if there are no local farms near you. Plant food prices skyrocket, and food deserts exist. Veganism is not even close to cruelty free. You cannot be cruelty free in this country (USA) unless you 100% grow your own food because we use slave labor to pick it. Plus this doesnāt factor in all the harm being caused by the transport of your food, by the truck that carried it around. Veganism is not the best choice for everyone, because some people cannot survive off of a plant based diet. I had tried for a good while, and my chronic illnesses spiked from it. Plus the constant monitoring to make sure I was receiving adequate nutrients triggered my ED to hell and back. Veganism is a great way to start lowering your negative effect on the planet, but that is all it is, a starting place. Your work is not done just because you became vegan and you do not get to throw stones at others because you still live in a glass house. Furthermore - it is absolutely possible to lower your footprint while still consuming animal products - you just have to be selective about what kinds and where they are sourced from. I have a permaculture based garden planned out for when we get land that actually has a smaller footprint than the typical vegan who buys everything at a store does.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Actually, none of us can survive on a plant-based diet. We cannot manufacture B12, and the so-calledĀ āplant-basedā sources of B12, it turns out, donāt produce it in a form we can digest.
B12 is found in all animal products.
Additionally, although humans can manufacture taurine (only found in meat), not all of us can manufacture enoughĀ taurine. This is why some people get sick when they go vegetarian.
To survive on a vegan diet you need to artificially supplementĀ B12 and possibly taurine. Period.
A diet that requires artificial supplementation is, by definition, unhealthy. And while the cost of vegan B12 supplements is low, when youāre already paying more for your food⦠Taurine supplementation, if you happen to be one of the people who needs it, is another added expense and hassle. A few vegans have also found it necessary to supplement carnitine, which is considerably more expensive. Oh, and most vegans donāt get enough calcium and end up with bone problems. Many are also Vitamin D deficient, especially if living at high latitudes, if dark skinned, or if religiously using sunscreen. And Vitamin D2 (plant derived) is not as easily absorbed as D3 (which ONLY comes from animals), so you need even more of it.
Then thereās protein.
I personally cannot properly digest nuts. I react the way lactose intolerant people do to milk if I consume pistachios, walnuts, or pecans. Almonds are actively toxic to me. Hazelnuts mess with my brain.
Because I am on thyroid medication, I am not supposed to consume large quantities of soy, as it can make my thyroid worse, throwing off my dosage. I can have some, but I cannot use it as a major protein source. This is also true for trans men (the phytoestrogens intefere with testosterone therapy), cis men with low testosterone (same reason) and women with a family history of breast cancer (elevates risk). Excessive soy consumption has also been linked to early puberty in girls (Again, phytoestrogens) and reproductive/sexual problems in both sexes. Eating a bit of soy is fine, but tofu should not be used as a meat substitute except for the occasional meal.
This limits my access to non-animal proteins to beans and grains. If I was gluten intolerant as well (Iām not, but itās in my family), it would be a real problem. The only dairy substitute available to me is rice milk (and rice causes many of the same problems environmentally as raising beef).
Oh, but itās better for the environment, right?
Nope.
In addition to the already-mentioned quinoa, weāre cutting down rain forest in Mexico to grow avocados. Rice production is almost as bad for the environment as factory-based beef production for similar reasons. Also, plant-based foods, esp. fruit and fresh vegetables, are more likely to end up being wasted.
Studies indicate that if we all gave up meat tomorrow, all 7 billion of us gave up animal products forever, the good side would be the reduction in antibiotic use and greenhouse gas emissions.
How about the bad side?
1.3 billion people would lose their jobs overnight. 1.3 billion. 987 of them are poor.
Another thing that Ban Eating Meat Tomorrow types forget is that veganism is not necessarily the most effective use of farmland.
Uh, what?
The statement that if everyone switched to a vegan diet we would need a fraction of our current farmland assumes all farmland is created equal.
It simply is not.
I suspect that a lot of this perspective either comes from city dwellers who have no clue about farming or from people in the US breadbasket where there is a lot of high quality farmland suitable for raising food for humans.
The last global census in 2008 said that at that time, if all 6 billion people went vegan, it would need 3,068,444,911 acres of arable land. At the time there was about 3,212,369,959 acres of arable land: That is to say land suitable for raising crops humans can eat.
However, weāre buildingĀ on, or otherwise destroying, arable land at the rate of about 1% a year and the population has grown.
We literally do not have enough arable land to feed everyone a plant-based diet.
And there are parts of the world that have a worse proportion of arable land to land only suitable for pasture than the US. Scotland comes immediately to mind. People in these places would have to import most of their food. Iām not sure Iceland could survive without eating fish.
If we all gave up eating meat tomorrow many of us would starve. Iām not exaggerating or being alarmist.
Iām also not criticizing people who choose not to eat animal products (just please make sure you get the required nutrients).
I am criticizing theĀ āI donāt eat animal products and nobody else should eitherā crowd. Because itās not that simple.
Also, bluntly, vitamin B12 deficiency can cause mood disturbances and paranoiaā¦
But again, if you have to consume artificial supplements for whatever reason (unless itās a personal absorption issue) your diet is not healthy.
Sorry, itās just not.
