You guys are insane! We have a lot of work ahead of us, but we will get through them as fast as possible!!
We never once expected to come nearly close to this amount of attention! We are so happy to see so many people interested in bringing this project to life with us!
How this went from just little drabbles in my mind to this is still mind blowing to me!
So excited to see who we get all in on this and how this will turn out. Thank you all so much! And keep an eye out for giveaways!!!
{Part One Here}
I'm back at it again! This time, it's about why Bruce and Duke are emotionally family. This one is going to be a bit shorter, for a couple reasons. But I hope you still find it helpful! Once again, please feel free to pipe up with - civil - arguments, additions, or comments!
Emotionally
First, I just want to share some examples of Bruce's and Duke's relationship in canon:
All-Star Batman #1
All-Star Batman #2
Aren't those both adorable? I mean, really! So sweet and cute! Bruce and Duke's interactions are always some of my favorite in comics. They're just so easy and teasing and fun, and just plain filled with emotion.
Now, here's one of my favorite from the end of BaTS:
Batman and The Signal #3
Well, first of all, they clearly care about each other. Duke literally calls Bruce his Mentor and friend! I know, I know, it's not exactly 'Father-Son' but you have to admit it is pretty darn close. Bruce is encouraging, and even smiles!
How do we bridge from Mentor & Friend to Father? Well, time for the +4 in my deck, of sorts. Here, in Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Dark Nights Metal (yes, that title is such a mouth full), Duke explicitly calls Bruce his father.
Before I show you, I just want to quietly preface this with the note that the Metal comics are not in current continuity. But I still they they count. They are canon! Plus, duke was such a bamf in it I refuse to think it doesn't count.
Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Dark Nights Metal
(Yes, yes the guitar is sort of ridiculous.)
But I hope you see this. Duke refers to Dick as "The only other person still alive who knows what it's like to be one of Batman's sons."
"Other." He includes himself!
Or, how about later on when this is said:
Tales From the Dark Multiverse: Dark Nights Metal
Let's just let that sink in.
"The man I loved like a father."
…
Still think Duke isn't Bruce's son?
Alright, thank you so much for reading this, and I hope you found it helpful! I honestly adore making meta posts, so let me know if you want to see more! I currently have one about Duke's fear of heights planned, and a sort-of one about why I love Duke. I definitely take suggestions, though! Oh, and let me know if any of you would like to be tagged when I post.
Finally finished this piece after months of reworking. Far from perfect, but I’m glad it’s done. Inspired by the amazing Bruno Redondo, Dan Mora, and especially Dexter Soy.
When Clark said “he’s not even a very good dog but he’s all alone and he’s probably scared so i have to go get him” I was so happy because someone in that writers room truly understands superman better than we’ve seen in a long time. This is the essence of superman - that every living being deserves kindness and empathy and love simply because they are alive. Clark is the kind of guy who’d cry when he got stung by a bee not because it hurt but because the bee died when it stung him and someone in the writers room knew that and made sure it came through.
