“– Pardon, monsieur?” Enjolras smiled, but it was a challenging one.
Soul gritted his teeth. “That came out wrong. I mean... it doesn’t explain anything? As in, it’s not... an answer? Do you get me?”

“you shouldn’t because also, is none of your business”
“I was trying to make sure you weren’t getting into trouble,” Soul protested. He was just... atrocious at socialisation.

Max blinked at the kid, allowing the snake to wriggle around between his two hands. “– …Part…witch…” The question mark was implied. And here he thought he’d heard everything.
Soul winced. “Yeah. Like, uh... has it down anything... witchy? As in... slithering into people’s throats?” Damn, he must sound like an utter madman.

“I apologize,” Gansey called out as he stepped out of the car. He gave the other person an apologetic but appeasing smile. “Are you hurt?”
Scowling, Soul bent down to pick up the scattered books. “I’m fine, but I don’t know about my shopping.” That had cost him quite a bit. If they were damaged, he swore to Death...

“Yeah. Pretty much. Like all of them.”
Soul sighed wistfully. “Sounds nice.”

With a glance, Barry gave the other a sympathetic smile. “Sorry about that, man. That’s gotta’ suck. But yeah, this is crazy slow. My coffee and your pancakes better be worth it.”
Scoffing, Soul leaned back in his seat. “I doubt it. I hear the reviews for this place aren’t exactly raving.” As if on cue, the waiter slid a plate in front of him before disappearing. Frowning, Soul poked the stack of... were they even pancakes?

It was past midnight, and Soul had no idea if Seung-Gil was awake, but...
With a box of pizza in hand (could professional athletes eat pizza? Soul hadn’t been thinking), he rapped on the apartment door. “Yo, you still up?” Soul called.
[Hey everyone,
Replies are gonna be super late because my laptop’s being awful and unreliable, so it works only 50% of the time. I’ve got all my replies up on queue, so sorry if some people end up waiting a week for replies!]

“It can’t be any weirder than the town I used to live in.”

Max glanced towards the kid. Then nodded. Time to get Educational Dad™ on the kiddo, put him at ease and teach him how to tell if a snake was venomous or not. “– ‘Msure. There’s ways to tell. ‘Sno rattle on the end of her tail, just tapers to a point. Pupils’re round, not like a cat’s. Snout’s round, not triangle, makes it less likely she’s got venomous fangs. Between her nose and eyes there’s no little heat-seeking pit, means she isn’t looking for warm-blooded prey. Head’s triangular, but not too wide compared to the neck. If you look at the start of her tail, see it doesn’t split at the vent. She’s a solid colour too. Less likely to be venomous. All that together makes her alright.”
Well, so it wasn’t venomous. That was one worry crossed off Soul’s list. Unfortunately, it was a small worry that paled in comparison to his other concern, and Soul wasn’t sure it was something this... snake-man could soothe. “But are you sure it’s not part of a witch?” Soul insisted. He almost added another question asking if the man was under a witch’s control, but Soul’s brain-to-mouth filter kicked in just in time. Considering the whole Medusa fiasco, though, Soul had the right to worry about snakes and anyone who liked them.

“Don’t really blame you for anything, then.

Hearing assurance that Barry wasn’t the only one waiting, he let out a groan. He understood that this might be the morning rush with things, but he’d placed his order almost ten minutes ago. It shouldn’t take that long to make a smoothie, he assumed. “What did you order?”
Soul sighed. “Just a stack of pancakes. Someone stole my groceries this morning, so there went my breakfast.” Poof. Vamoosh. “I swear to Death, they’ve got the slowest service in the entire world.” Really, was some food too much to ask for?
“The light pollution around here is awful. Like…you can’t even see half the stars. Not cool.”
“I’m guessing you’re used to seeing all the stars?”

The line of Anakin’s eyebrows fell downward in perplexity. “Murderous bookworms?” The question escaped the edge of his mouth in more confusion. As Anakin dipped his head in a nod, a solemn expression appeared across his gestures, as he took a subtle step forward.“ This planet is far different from my galaxy.” The words departed from Anakin in a rigid tone as his lips compressed together tightly. The blue hues glanced at the other with a slight grimace. He sensed something different about the male, not the force but an existence that he unfamiliar with.
“My partner and former roommate,” Soul said dryly, rolling his eyes. His expression was still stuck in its seemingly permanent bored state. “She’s off attending college right now. I decided to take a gap year.” Was it really a gap year if Soul had no plans of attending college anyway? Besides, he hadn’t exactly graduated from high school. If he was being incredibly technical, Soul had probably completed the DWMA’s curriculum the moment he became a Death Scythe four years ago. Well, technicalities. It was a gap year from work, at least, until Maka or Kid called for him. “You come from a completely different galaxy? Well, that must have been a change.”

“Well, did you start it?”

“Magnolia’s nice, I guess, but it’s a bit lacking in... perverted cats and murderous bookworms,” Soul mused. “Or ninjas that fail at being ninjas.”

Max was Australian. This much was abundantly clear every time he opened his mouth. But how Australian? Right now, on this Good Day™? Very.
He cooed as the wild snake wriggled around his hand and arm. “– Aw, you’re not dangerous at all…not even poisonous, are you…?”
Soul eyed the snake warily. After Medusa, well... saying that Soul had a thing about snakes was an understatement.
“Are you sure it’s not venomous?” he said suspiciously. “Or, uh, maybe part of a witch’s spell?” The chances that Medusa had reappeared were slim to none, and the chances that she had become a random snake in the middle of Magnolia were even smaller, but...
