ââ Pardon, monsieur?â Enjolras smiled, but it was a challenging one.
Soul gritted his teeth. âThat came out wrong. I mean... it doesnât explain anything? As in, itâs not... an answer? Do you get me?â

ââ Pardon, monsieur?â Enjolras smiled, but it was a challenging one.
Soul gritted his teeth. âThat came out wrong. I mean... it doesnât explain anything? As in, itâs not... an answer? Do you get me?â

âyou shouldnât because also, is none of your businessâ
âI was trying to make sure you werenât getting into trouble,â Soul protested. He was just... atrocious at socialisation.

Max blinked at the kid, allowing the snake to wriggle around between his two hands. ââ âŚPartâŚwitchâŚâ The question mark was implied. And here he thought heâd heard everything.
Soul winced. âYeah. Like, uh... has it down anything... witchy? As in... slithering into peopleâs throats?â Damn, he must sound like an utter madman.

âI apologize,â Gansey called out as he stepped out of the car. He gave the other person an apologetic but appeasing smile. âAre you hurt?â
Scowling, Soul bent down to pick up the scattered books. âIâm fine, but I donât know about my shopping.â That had cost him quite a bit. If they were damaged, he swore to Death...

âYeah. Pretty much. Like all of them.â
Soul sighed wistfully. âSounds nice.â

With a glance, Barry gave the other a sympathetic smile. âSorry about that, man. Thatâs gottaâ suck. But yeah, this is crazy slow. My coffee and your pancakes better be worth it.â
Scoffing, Soul leaned back in his seat. âI doubt it. I hear the reviews for this place arenât exactly raving.â As if on cue, the waiter slid a plate in front of him before disappearing. Frowning, Soul poked the stack of... were they even pancakes?Â

It was past midnight, and Soul had no idea if Seung-Gil was awake, but...
With a box of pizza in hand (could professional athletes eat pizza? Soul hadnât been thinking), he rapped on the apartment door. âYo, you still up?â Soul called.

âyeah..itâs not exactly on a lot of maps i guess? its a weird town.â
âIt canât be any weirder than the town I used to live in.â

Max glanced towards the kid. Then nodded. Time to get Educational Dad⢠on the kiddo, put him at ease and teach him how to tell if a snake was venomous or not. ââ âMsure. Thereâs ways to tell. âSno rattle on the end of her tail, just tapers to a point. Pupilsâre round, not like a catâs. Snoutâs round, not triangle, makes it less likely sheâs got venomous fangs. Between her nose and eyes thereâs no little heat-seeking pit, means she isnât looking for warm-blooded prey. Headâs triangular, but not too wide compared to the neck. If you look at the start of her tail, see it doesnât split at the vent. Sheâs a solid colour too. Less likely to be venomous. All that together makes her alright.â
Well, so it wasnât venomous. That was one worry crossed off Soulâs list. Unfortunately, it was a small worry that paled in comparison to his other concern, and Soul wasnât sure it was something this... snake-man could soothe. âBut are you sure itâs not part of a witch?â Soul insisted. He almost added another question asking if the man was under a witchâs control, but Soulâs brain-to-mouth filter kicked in just in time. Considering the whole Medusa fiasco, though, Soul had the right to worry about snakes and anyone who liked them.

Hearing assurance that Barry wasnât the only one waiting, he let out a groan. He understood that this might be the morning rush with things, but heâd placed his order almost ten minutes ago. It shouldnât take that long to make a smoothie, he assumed. âWhat did you order?â
Soul sighed. âJust a stack of pancakes. Someone stole my groceries this morning, so there went my breakfast.â Poof. Vamoosh. âI swear to Death, theyâve got the slowest service in the entire world.â Really, was some food too much to ask for?
âThe light pollution around here is awful. LikeâŚyou canât even see half the stars. Not cool.â
âIâm guessing youâre used to seeing all the stars?â

The line of Anakinâs eyebrows fell downward in perplexity. âMurderous bookworms?â The question escaped the edge of his mouth in more confusion. As Anakin dipped his head in a nod, a solemn expression appeared across his gestures, as he took a subtle step forward.â This planet is far different from my galaxy.â The words departed from Anakin in a rigid tone as his lips compressed together tightly. The blue hues glanced at the other with a slight grimace. Â He sensed something different about the male, not the force but an existence that he unfamiliar with.
âMy partner and former roommate,â Soul said dryly, rolling his eyes. His expression was still stuck in its seemingly permanent bored state. âSheâs off attending college right now. I decided to take a gap year.â Was it really a gap year if Soul had no plans of attending college anyway? Besides, he hadnât exactly graduated from high school. If he was being incredibly technical, Soul had probably completed the DWMAâs curriculum the moment he became a Death Scythe four years ago. Well, technicalities. It was a gap year from work, at least, until Maka or Kid called for him. âYou come from a completely different galaxy? Well, that must have been a change.â

âi didnât pick that fight, that guy was asking for itâ
âWell, did you start it?â

âMagnoliaâs nice, I guess, but itâs a bit lacking in... perverted cats and murderous bookworms,â Soul mused. âOr ninjas that fail at being ninjas.â

Max was Australian. This much was abundantly clear every time he opened his mouth. But how Australian? Right now, on this Good Day Very.
He cooed as the wild snake wriggled around his hand and arm. ââ Aw, youâre not dangerous at allâŚnot even poisonous, are youâŚ?â
Soul eyed the snake warily. After Medusa, well... saying that Soul had a thing about snakes was an understatement.
âAre you sure itâs not venomous?â he said suspiciously. âOr, uh, maybe part of a witchâs spell?â The chances that Medusa had reappeared were slim to none, and the chances that she had become a random snake in the middle of Magnolia were even smaller, but...
