Indigo Dreams
24K Rose Gold Filled Cable Chain, Spring Ring Clasp , Gem quality Tanzanite, and a rare, violet flash Labradorite
Found only at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro, in the Manyara region of Northern Tanzania- in a dig site that is a mere four Kilometers wide, by two kilometers long(or roughly one mile, by two miles of land which supplies the only formation of this stone known to man)- Tanzanite is becoming increasingly hard to come by, and is predicted to out-value diamonds in the coming years. The stone supply of the whole planet is approximated to be completely depleted in thirty years or less.
Manuel d’Souza discovered this form of Zoisite(or Calcium Aluminum Hydroxyl Sorosilicate) derived from the epidote lineage 1969, outside Arusha in the Merelani Hills- not far from the famous summit.

These beauties are created when a wall or high plateau forms, and is worn away by mechanical and chemical weathering agents such as sand, blown by the wind, and acid rain, until an arch forms, and is worn further until all that remains are two pillars.

14K Gold Filled Floating Amethyst Slice Necklace
This slice of Amethyst is a vertical Slice, so the purple crystals that we normally identify as being the whole stone, are simply seen on the end of the piece. Bellow is an image of an Amethyst tower, or display piece, with the crystals facing forward.
However on the pendant we can see what lies beneath the violet... Quartz. Amethyst is a variety of Crystal Quartz, as is Citrine, Smokey Quartz and Rose Quartz, but Amethyst(SiO2) derives it’s hue due to trace elements in the complex crystal lattice that are so close in shape and size they can be substitutions for the normal chemical makeup, as well as the presence of iron impurities, with occasional transition element impurities, and irradiation.
Additionally, we can see what the base stone, or the supporter of the nucleation- or origin- point for the crystal growth is, in this case, the grey on the pendant, is Botswana agate. Agate is a micro-crystalline quartz. So this whole piece is just a mixing pot of quartz forms, perfectly transitioned into one, beautiful specimen.

Amethyst cluster with Cacoxenite and Iron Oxide inclusions(the little black and rust dots in the matrix)
Violet has always stood as a color of high value amongst the cultures of the world, seen as closer to the heavens, or enlightenment. It is a color of spirituality, possibility, mystery, and connection to what could and can be. A great way to meditate with the energy of the sixth, or third eye Chakra, I highly suggest this stone for it’s ease of access due to it’s popularity and its ability to self ‘restart’, or cleanse, on account of the high vibrations of the structure on an atomic level.

Fern Frost
Created by the differences in temperature between both sides of the glass it forms on, fern frost is an astounding phenomenon. As the air outside(the windshield of my truck in this example) drops in temperature, and the air inside is warmer, and contains moisture, the freezing process of the condensation, or ‘sweating’, can turn out like this. The beautiful pattern of the frost, which is a crystal lattice like that of a gigantic snowflake, is affected by the surface of the glass; things like dust particles, and dirt serve as nucleation points for crystalline growth. The low temperature of the outside of the glass is what coaxes the moisture to go directly from a gaseous state to a solid, instead of if there had been a higher temperature or more moisture outside the windshield, where we would have instead seen water drops, or a simple sheet of ice.

Lapis Lazuli Earrings on Hand Hammered Raw Brass
Lapis, commonly recognized for it’s distinct navy, and cerulean hue, is often mistaken for sodalite, which does not contain the flashes of gold, or pyrite within the stone’s matrix. These polished gold flakes can be a fantastic way of identifying an authentic specimen of Lapis.
In ancient times, Lapis was so valued that it was allowed only to be worn by Egyptian royalty, known as the Pharaoho’s stone, and was actually called Sapphire. So in old documents and texts, including the biblical text, the breastplate for the high priests, representing the 12 tribes of Israel, one of the stones mentioned- the Sapphire- is actually Lapis!

The Arch

Arches are natural structures found only where the weather can come together perfectly to create this sort of tunnel through the stone, deserts and ocean shores are prime locations for this as common weathering agents for stone can be rain, or water, wind, and other stone- sand often carried by fierce gusts- that repeatedly slam into it, mechanically wearing it away, or other minerals carried such as in acid rain, that slowly dissolve the chemical structure of the stone. After an arch becomes too thin, it will collapse on top, leaving a spire on either side.

Here Comes the Sun

Driving through the Rez, in the course of five miles we saw sun, snow, hail, sleet, and more sun- the heat made such a gorgeous dance on the roadway as cars passed through the steam of the road, it swirling behind them in their wake.

Why does the shimmer on snow look rainbow?
The colorful glint off of snow is caused by refracted and reflected light, throwing vibrant displays of rich hues, like the process in which we see rainbows cast from diamond rings. The wavelengths of light that are passed back intersect, and upon connecting at different angles after bouncing off of or ‘ passing through’ a clear object(in this case the crystalline structure of the snowflakes- which work as a prism) this process divides the white light into sections of the color spectrum that make it up- thus we see all of the ‘white’ light’s contents.

Crystal of another Kind
While technically not a rock or mineral, snow is composed of ice crystals- classified as such in light of it’s structure and thus is found under the umbrella of crystalline solids- a material whose makeup, is arranged into a highly organized microscopic structure. It’s constituents form a crystal lattice which extends in all directions, so the ions, molecules, and atoms are uniformly placed. Diamonds, Table, salt, and snowflakes all fall under the crystalline solids category.
