How To Balance Academics and Extra Curriculars
Hi! So I'm back from a semi break/hiatus kinda thing. I wasn't able to be online because as some of you know, I'm on the school's badminton team and our season started recently. Me, underestimating my dedication towards badminton (and procrastination tbh), thought it wouldn't be that difficult to balance everything. I was wrong. With 2-4 hours of practice a day, injuries (I dislocated my knee and sprained it yesterday), away games, and other commitments (like aCaDeMiCs), I was/am struggling to pull through with everything. Though I've been fairing better this week thankfully.
This leads us to todays post, how to balance extra life with 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 extra life; i.e: how do I balance academics and sports/extra curricular? ⤵
𝟏. 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫: I mean it. You can't manage anything if you don't even realize you need to manage it. This was me in the first 2 weeks after playing. You 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 to discipline yourself otherwise everything will 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 a mess.
𝟐. 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬: I'll be frank here. Your academics and extra curricular are higher than your friends and gaming buddies. You have to sacrifice social time in order to make time for your studies. As a side note, if your friends/social people don't understand your time commitments conflict with theirs, they aren't good friends period. BUT your academics is not always above your mental health. If you can push through, push through but if not, 𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙗𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠!
𝟑. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: I will be posting about time management in the future but in short, your work time (including extra curricular that isn't "fun") needs to be roughly equivalent to your down time. This varies from person to person but for me, I try not to work at all after 8 pm unless I absolutely 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 to. This allows some recovery time for my brain as well.
