she rolled her eyes at his slurping, though didn’t say anything of it. “dominic de villeneuve doesn’t count,” she stated, giving a sardonic smile. “and yes, but it’s not like perspectives really matter when it comes to someone like you.”

coranza scoffed, though a part of her couldn’t help but agree with him --- she wasn’t about to admit as much, however. “please, i don’t need anyone. i’ve got other things to worry about. i don’t need a ... girl, right now.

“please, you’re good at everything.” coranza smiled, and she truly believed as much. “--- and i mean, i guess. i suppose i’m mostly fake to some of the other royals --- to keep the avaloran image ‘clean’ and all.” she rolled her eyes.

coranza coughed a bit, sitting up straight and looking to the boy. “i need to ... find myself a what?” the princess spluttered.

she watched skylar comfort coranza and she looked back at aurelius to see where he’d gone to. the horse was two paces slower than the jaquin, and he passed helen a look that she didn’t understand. “what if i just replace you with a jaquin, hmm?” she teased, holding out her hand. aurelius pretended to bite at it but it just made helen laugh. “you hear that, boy? cora doesn’t think we’re part of corona’s finest,” she pouted at coranza. “we’ll prove you wrong, just you wait,” she smirked.

cora laughed softly as she watched helen and aurelius interact, a small smile upon her lips. she scratched behind skylar’s ears, looking over at helen. “i’m sure you will,” she said, truthfully. skylar nodded in agreement.

helen linked her fingers with coranza’s. “just give it time. koda will find him. or find a good clue or something. he knows what he’s doing. and if he doesn’t find anything…well, i can’t say i’d know what he’d do. if i was in his shoes, i’d feel bad, yeah, but then i guess it’s on you to let him know that it’s okay. right?” she asked, trying for a smile. helen let coranza’s hand go when she left it. at cora’s last words, she arched an eyebrow, putting her hands on her hips. “do i detect a suspicious tone?”

cora squeezed helen’s hand slightly. “i hope so, but i won’t be upset if he doesn’t. he was the only one willing to go look, and for that, i appreciate him so much,” she gave a soft, almost sad-sounding laugh. “but, yeah, i’ll make sure he knows that it’s okay.” she nodded, giving the slightest of smiles. after a moment, though, she sighed again, and reached her hand out as skylar gave and nuzzled against it --- he’d been silent the whole time, and considering how loud he usually was, she appreciated it. her smile grew slightly at helen’s next words. “suspicious? pfft. me? never.” she teased, lightheartedly.

“right? that’s why she’s my role-model.” for better or worse. probably worse. “right? why can’t we all just be honest instead of fake? everything would be so much easier to figure out that way. i’m sick of pretending to like people.”

coranza gave a soft laugh, nodding slightly. “honestly. like, i’m tired of all of these fake people,” she grumbled, giving an annoyed roll of her eyes. “i’m tired of having to be fake.”

“your mother is an inspiration to us all, truly,” coranza hummed, smiling at her friend. “honestly. i mean, my mother practically preached the high road all my life, but please --- the high road is fake half the time.”

she didn’t like how uncomfortable and unsure coranza looked, and helen felt helpless to do anything about it. she pressed her lips together, then put an arm over coranza’s shoulders, rubbing her arm encouragingly. “i remember koda,” helen confirmed, looking straight at her friend. “i’m sure he’s still looking, searches like these take ages. sometimes trails go cold and they have to pause, re-group, go back to where they started. if your father’s trying to not be found…that’s something else entirely. buuuuut…” she began in a sing-song, “i’m sure if you had some of corona’s finest to help you, the search will be much faster.”

coranza sighed gently, placing her hand on helen’s and looking to her with an appreciative smile. “yeah, i’m positive he’s still looking. he told me that he wouldn’t come back until he found something, so ...” still, again, she sighed. “i don’t know. i want him to find something, but i also don’t want him to feel like he failed if he doesn’t find anything, you know?” she shrugged, dropping her hand back at her side. at helen’s last remark, she smiled slightly, looking back up at her friend. “corona’s finest, huh?”

coranza gave a dramatic flip of her hair, a satisfied smile playing on her bright red lips. “why, thank you,” she said, with a light laugh. “i’m quite proud, honestly --- though it probably goes against everything my mother stands for.” she gave a slight roll of her eyes.
