Controversial Janeite opinion: I do not care the slightest bit when good quotes by bad characters are taken out of context. If the line and the sentiment are good, use the quote!
"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!" was said by someone who doesn't actually like reading—do not care, it's still true, there is no enjoyment like reading, great line, please plaster it everywhere.
"There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves; it is not my nature." was a lie said by a selfish, horrible friend—do not care, it's still a beautiful sentiment and beautifully expressed by Jane Austen's pen, perfect prose, no notes.
And so on.
In fact, I'm gonna argue that a bad character saying something good but being insincere about it automatically makes it better. It's like having double negatives in a sentence: they cancel each other out. The lines we should not like are the ones the bad characters are being sincere about, don't you think?
Don't get me started on misquoting though (looking at you stupid fake "calm waters" quote)...
evangelicals being like "god made men to do This and be like This and women to do That and be like That that's just how it is" and it's just a picture of a white man and woman following traditional gender norms makes me so insane like you boring fascist fucks. god made 2 million species of beetles. god made whales, ducks, humans, and 1500 other species capable of same sex behavior. god made fish and amphibians that change sexes. god made more than 30 different intersex variations in human beings. god, in his infinite curiosity. wake up!!! fuck!!
"god wants women to have perfect no-makeup makeup looks and stay at home not talking back and upholding capitalism" god??? that guy who made lizards that shoot blood out of their eyes?? that guy who made salmon do whatever the fuck that is?? are you fucking crazy???
How Stories Can Save Us – The Philosophy of The Fall
The plum you're going to eat next summer
by Gayle Brandeis
The plum you’re going to eat next summer doesn’t exist yet; its potential lives inside a tree you’ll never see in an orchard you’ll never see, will be touched by a certain number of water droplets before it reaches you, by certain angles of light, by a finite amount of bugs and dust motes and hands you’ll never know. The plum you are going to eat next summer will gather sugar, gather mass, will harden at its center so it can soften toward your mouth. The plum you’re going to eat next summer doesn’t know you exist. The plum you are going to eat next summer is growing just for you.

I was like, "I'm not gonna change a word of this script. This is a perfect script. I'm not gonna ruin this movie with my thoughts." But then, on every camera take, Jon our wonderful director was like, "Now do one just for fun. Now do one just you. Like, just something that you would say, off the cuff and ad-lib." And I was like, "Okay, if you want." And then, this man pulled a fast one on me. He used every single ad-lib.
