Also. The whole “I can be (nikki)” scene just absolutely broke my heart for entity nikki. She is somebody who out of the blue was created with the sole purpose of being in love with this fucking guy. She doesn’t have a personality of her own because she doesn’t even have the experience to have feelings, personality of her own. She is so “obsessed” with bear because that is her sole purpose of life. When bear comes back from work and we see the state she is in, standing in her own waste, in the same position we last see bear leave her. Her own biological needs are secondary because what are her needs except to please bear and make him love her as she loves him? She doesn’t exist outside of him because she didn’t exist outside of the wish he made. She mentions having nightmares (that are Nikki’s). She is suffering except when bear loves her back.

But the thing is that bear doesn’t love her. He “loves” nikki. And she is not nikki. And she can not be nikki no matter how hard she tries. She is created by bear’s wish for nikki to love him more than anyone in the fucking world and yet he will not be able to love her. Because he loves nikki!!!!

No wonder nikki wasn’t feeling love (as she puts it in the beginning of the movie). The people she was surrounded with absolutely did not care about her!!! Both Ian and Sarah remarking that nikki is very obviously going through something and is not in a good place mentally. Both of them at different points in the movie tell bear that she is the one taking advatange of the bear in the situation by being in a relationship with him and relying on him for emotional validation. Even though very obviously it is bear’s moral responsibility to understand the situation and reject Nikki’s advances (if the situation was really like what Sarah and Ian saw it to be). He is the one that is taking advantage of her, even in their perceived situation.

Even when Ian does call bear out over this in the car, he still invites bear to the party and it is nikki who faces exclusion even if at that point Ian realises that nikki is the victim.

also the 4 of them were most definitely not friends, they were co-workers who knew each other longer and hung out because of that. and even if they were, they were absolutely shit ones

I think one of the most chilling aspects of obsession was how real nikki was there… the entire time. every single thing that happened between bear and entity nikki, she was forced to witness it all while having absolutely no control over her own body. the actions were in no way hers, yet the consequences and trauma of bear’s actions is something she will have to deal with as long as she lives.
