Hello, I’m Corinne/Daniëlle, started playing in 2015, been here on ssoblr since about 2019, and have been on a quest to get people to read the books since 2020. :D
On howrse, I’m Mudpuddle on the Dutch server. I’ve been playing since 2017 and have made it into my server’s top 500 as a FTP player!

category of blorbo called "technically i like them but fanons obsession with them to the exclusion of other characters pavloved me into having a negative reaction whenever i see them"
ok but the soul riders ask linda about where she reads fanfics and she knows she can't introduce them to it because she's seen real person fanfics there about the top two jorvegian equestrians who just so happen to be close good friends, esteemed dressage champion Anne and the two times Baroness elected top equestrian MC-
In the quest they say the South Iron Gate in Goldenhills Valley is closed during winter. But here comes the thing I'm very confused about: I always thought the reason for closing the gates was to stop ghosts, monsters or whatever from passing through them during the winter. I tried looking for confirmation but I couldn't find any? Now I don't know if this was actually mentioned in the game or if it's just a theory and I mixed it up with canon? Or did I just somehow make this up?? I feel a bit crazy not knowing where I got this from 😭
Either way, I still think the South Iron Gate closing during winter could be something interesting to explore!
Istg it was closed because of winter spirits, so you’re not alone on that. I think it might actually be from the books? It may be mentioned when they go to Pi in the books, some sort of “we need to get there before they’ve closed the gate for winter”? I’ll check when I get home!
Found it! I haven’t checked to see if it was also mentioned in game (or maybe even in that one guide to golden hills video they did?) but it is definitely mentioned in the books!
Edit: clicked an old video of getting to Golden Hills Valley too and it’s also mentioned in game!

This is how the map looks right now.
I have added Marchenghast so if anyone lives there it can be visible on the map.
For the old post with the list of all the characters, it is [here]
If you want to add your character:
Reblog this post and ad your ocs Name, Location and a Picture of your character.
You may also add any details like who they live with, which house the live in or other small details like that.
A link to your blog will also be attached next to your character.
If your character is already on the map:
No need to send in the same infomation, I will not be removing anyone from the map so those who are already there will stay there.
If your character is already on the map but info is outdated:
You can also reblog this post with your characters name and where they are currently located so I can easily find them, and then explain what infomation need updated. This include if you want to change the picture.
If you want to me to remove your character:
You can either reblog or send me an message about which character is yours and that you want them removed.
I will not be removing anyone if not asked, but I will go through the list of the old characters to see if their blogs are still active. If the blog have been deleted, the characters picture frame will be black instead of red. But they wont be removed if not requested.
It’s a small thing but I like how the ground colours in the new showjumping race (new as in last week I haven’t played today’s update yet) give a very natural indicator for which jump you’re going to next. Like thank fuck I can finally do a showjumping course in a very comfortable and fun way without having to play it 10000 times to memorize it first
Being crazy about a piece of media for any amount of time will leave a weird mark on you forever because years later you’ll see someone posting something about it like “can we talk about this frame” and you’ll be like “ah that frame. i know all about that frame. I was once a scholar of that frame.”
If there is a SINGLE (1) thing/theme/plot point/whatever have you that I wish the story even SLIGHTLY touched upon in the actual game it's the fact that all the soul riders (every single one of them, calender or year wise at the time and place of the SSO mainstory) are still below the age of 20
Like. I know we all feel like fucking legends at 20 and think we have our life together but even as someone who is turning 23 and adapted fucking fantastically to moving out at 20.
Holy shit do I wish SSO would explore the themes of growing up too quickly, both in the sense that you yourself "need to become independant" and "fault yourself for not being mature/grown-up enough yet", but also in the sense that everyone else "forgets how young you are and how you should arguably be treated as someone still finding their place in the world"
Not in the sense of hurdur child soldiers bad thing but like. It's Fun it's Interesting all of the soul riders (and arguably MC too since it's dead easy to read them as canonically YOUNGER than the soul riders in-game, i.e, 18 at best) in some sense or other "had to grow up too quickly", it's even something that Helena touches on in the books THE VERY SAME SECOND the keepers/elizabeth/fripp are introduced, cause the first thing Elizabeth says is that they're too young to take on the responsibility of the world and Need Training (they're 16 in the books ofc which makes this even more obvious) but Fripp says there is no time to train them
WHICH IS FUCKING FANTASTIC. Isn't that just fucking fun? Like that's such an obvious easy trope to fall into and explore the consequences of in the game, both because it fits your characters, and because your audience (largely of marginalized minorities in whichever way) would arguably resonate with it.
Like Idonno I could go into this more but cough cough I can and I will cough cough the point is, if there is a single trope/theme that the game has right there and still manages to just waste, this is the one I'm the most pissed about
James Cloudmill. I have something urgent to share, a business proposal most daring. Club Fort Pinta is in ruin, but I know two of Jorvik’s most skilled dancers. If we get Pi the Witch and Jasper Holbrook to compete in a battle of footwork most dastardly I swear to God we could get your money up. We could even get your dad back.
I think a lot of writers might benefit from giving themselves permission to get weird with format.
Use second person, drop classic rising action and climax format, write backwards, just sit in a moment, tell all you want and refuse to show, make an entire book that’s just one run on sentence, reject tropes, use all tropes, cliche yourself to death, produce something that’s completely gibberish. Break all the rules of marketability. Become ungovernable.
It’s the middle of the night and I should be sleeping but listen. Listen. Just get weird with it. Open your soul up a little bit. Like actually don’t worry about it being palatable. I’m serious. Get weirder. Get weirder right now. I’m demanding that you get weirder right now. It’s not your responsibility to make your reader feel good. It’s your job to make art, goddamnit. Make art. Make weird art. Open up your third eye and eat an entire cheesecake.
