Thinking about how important it is to me that Lex is canonically a crier.
I get it. She's iconic. A burnt-out retail employee who smokes weed on her break. The black nail polish, several rings, and dark wardrobe. Rebellious, sharp tongued, absolutely BASED opinions about the state of medical care in the US, Lex is an aesthetic that is popular for a reason.
However, that aesthetic is not everything that she is.
It misses what is underneath that exterior. The depressed, desperate kid who was forced to grow up too fast.
Did you know that the leather jacket Ethan wears was originally supposed to be Lex's? Did you know that the reason she ended up with her oversized denim jacket was because Angela felt it fit her better? That she felt leather didn't fit for a poor, depressed kid?
Did you know that we are given the exact reason why Ethan is so supportive? Did you know we are told twice?
"Lex, I'll get you to California, Lex. Then you don't gotta cry so much no more."
"I love seeing you smile. I live for it."
Did you know that is the very reason why Lex's Letter hits you so hard? Because Lex isn't sad because of the events of Yellow Jacket. She's been sad for a very long time. And she buries it so deeply inside herself and her own self-loathing that when we finally see those cracks, you can only barely see the real damage underneath.
Despite all of this... did you know we still haven't seen her cry?
Her eyes water while singing about her sister in Black Friday. She swipes at her eyes during the Cupcake scene in Yellow Jacket.
The moment she lets herself fully cry, that we see her actual tears begin to fall, it's hidden behind words on a piece of paper. Words she wrote while Ethan and Hannah were both asleep.
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.

I’ve got a full length video about Jimothy if you search on my blog.
That being said, I wanna take a little more of a philosophical approach here.
Apparently Jimothy was born in 2025, so he’s about a year old. And I got a lot of questions in the comment section of my video on TikTok asking why his mama/siblings didn’t eat him or shun him and leave him to die.
And it’s because that isn’t how raccoons work. Jimothy has survived thus far because raccoon families are built on love and support and knowledge exchange.
People always say “raccoons are solitary creatures.” But they aren’t. Not really. Males use each other to stay warm in the winter (and keep each other entertained.) Females form close bonds with their children. Siblings teach each other new skills and games. In captivity, raccoons make their own family. For example, my own raccoons, Lammy and Moonshine, perfectly mimick the relationship between a daughter that should have left the nest by now, and a fed up mother that still loves her. Raccoons are so successful as a species because their families (blood related or otherwise) lift each other up. They share their knowledge with the ones they love and offer help when needed.

So every year, my aquarium does a captive lobster hatchery project (hence all the loblings). The reason we’re doing it is because in the wild, loblings only have a 1 in 25,000 chance of surviving their larval phase. They’re plankton as babies and everything eats them. Additionally, as the Gulf of Maine warms, they are having even lower survival rates because the blooms of copepods they feed on as babies are happening earlier in the year, and they’re missing it.
Obviously, the goal of this experiment is to grow the lobsters until they’re big enough to settle to the seabed and then release them, because they have a much higher likelihood of surviving to adulthood when they’re able to hide. Ideally, captive lobster hatcheries can boost the wild population and keep things stable, so we don’t have a major crash in a decade or two.
The first year we tried this was pretty bad. We had a lot of eggs, but very few babies. It turned out that the CO2 levels in the building spiked as more guests visited throughout the summer, and that settled into the water and threw off the pH and caused a chemical reaction that prevented a lot of the eggs from hatching. I think we ended up releasing three baby lobsters (which is still better than their wild survival rate but not great).
The second year was a little better. We added a de-gasser to the aquarium and got a ton of larval lobsters, but right as they were settling to the bottom we had a disease outbreak that killed most of them. We ended up releasing four babies at the end of the season.
But this year? Oh boy. We have so many lobsters that we had to release the first round early (usually we wait till September or October so guests can see them). We just released a total of FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE baby lobsters, and we still have over a hundred who haven’t settled to the bottom yet. I genuinely don’t even have words to explain how cool this is. OVER FIVE HUNDRED. We just added hundreds of lobsters to the wild population that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.
