The federal government was the only party in the court case that opposed the creation of the detailed reports and the transfer of records to the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation — which was created as a residential schools archive and as the repository for the testimony gathered by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Another legal battle is unfolding over the fate of residential school-related records with Ottawa winning an initial round to prevent the creation of detailed statistical reports that would reveal which institutions faced the highest number of abuse claims, court records show.
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation is appealing a January Ontario Superior Court ruling that sided with Ottawa to prevent the creation of detailed reports drawn from a database held by the body that oversaw residential school compensation claims.
The court also blocked the transfer of a number of other compensation claim-related records held by the Indian Residential Schools Adjudication Secretariat directly to the centre.

I don't know CBC, what could you possibly do to counter anti-Asian racism?

There is so much that I don’t want to feel, Emily. And the biggest thing that I don’t want to feel… is that I’m in love with you.
fandom is only an escape if youre privileged lol
stupid racist white kids will go to fandom to "escape reality" or whatever the fuck and bring their racism with them and when kids of color like me want to participate we see all their shitty racist garbage and it drives us away and you all wonder why there's so little people of color in fandom
I can’t escape from you, because the only true thing I will ever feel is my love for you.
The BC government opening it's press conference where they announced that the Site C Dam (which multiple First Nations oppose) with a land acknowledgement feels like something out of a dystopian movie 🙃
For context the Site C dam will flood First Nations cultural sites, including burial grounds.
Focus is instead on safe supply, Justin Trudeau says in interview with CBC Vancouver
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would not back decriminalization of drugs as a public-health response to the country’s escalating opioid crisis, insisting on Wednesday that the approach, while raised as an option by advocates and medical officials across the country, is not a “silver bullet” solution.
Trudeau is facing renewed pressure to decriminalize the possession of hard drugs, as officials in several provinces, including British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta, say they are grappling with an increasing number of deaths related to the toxic drug supply amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The prime minister was firm on his stance on the policy in an interview with CBC Vancouver on Wednesday, saying the government is prioritizing other options such as greater access to a safe supply of opioids.
“I think in any crisis like this, there is not one silver bullet,” the prime minister told The Early Edition on Wednesday.

“Just because Portugal was wildly successful with their model doesn’t mean anything—Canadians demand that we maintain the status quo to achieve change. It’s only through doing the same things that we’ve always done that got us into this mess that we’ll get out of this mess. Everyone knows the best way out of a hole is to keep digging.”
“The fact that I know fuck-all about this issue is a great reason to not involve any experts. We’ll just blunder around while thousands of people die because there’s nothing that says ‘we care’ like sticking our heads in the sand and refusing to consult anyone who knows anything about this stuff. But hey, aren’t my socks awesome?”
Imagine trying to portray yourself as a progressive while having a more conservative view on decriminalization than the fucking police

This blog seems more compassionate than the Canadian government
This is simultaneously a generous compliment to the way I try to cover current events in this country, and a big condemnation on how little the Federal Government gives a damn about any of us.
Thanks.
hold on a fucking second. delaware is a state?? i thought it was a river? or is the river more important than the state? why don't i know this? (i should mention i don't like in america, i'm just confused)
there is delaware (state) and delaware (river)
both are equally strange
the state is a tiny little cryptid thing
the rive is a monster that spans new york, pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. also washington crossed it once and that was like kinda a big deal i guess. like crossing the rubicon in rome.
the state tries to me more important with its “im the first state!!!” bs (seriously its even on the fucking license plates) but we all know. its the river.
THATS TUPPERWARE
i thought delaware was a place in ohio? why are there so many things named delaware?
delaware is too powerful
what the fuck
Wait what? I thought Delaware was a store with building supplies. Like paint, wood, nails and stuff?
THATS HOME DEPOT ???
I know home depot, but dude I don't know anything about America mad have never been there. Are you sure there is not a some sort of store called something close to Delaware!?!
.....ace hardware....?

One of my least favorite mental illness things is "hungry but dont feel like eating" and its companions "hungry but all the food in the house is Illegal," "hungry but can't make anything," and "hungry, want to eat, but why bother"
Also the adhd friend “hungry but unaware of hunger because current activity is too captivating”
"Hungry but I'll get to it later"
“Definite not hungry, nope, but upon forcing oneself to eat something, discovering that the food vanished in 30 seconds and the pervasive feelings of ickiness all vanished, what the fuck"
Hungry but only for one specific food. I do not know what that food is but i do know i don't have it in the house
Hungry but everything tastes like dirt and you don’t know why
that post about media that you consumed when you were a little too young for it is very interesting but i also like to think about media that you consumed at the Exact perfect time in your life for it… its such a nice concept
OOH OKAY rb this and tag what piece of media you played/read/watched etc at the perfect time in your life, something that wouldnt have been the same if you didnt consume it when you did…
Do you know what this is? This is The Heart from Auschwitz.
An act of defiance. A statement of hope. A crime punishable by death.
On December 12, 1944, locked inside Auschwitz, Polish teenager Fania turned twenty. After spending a year in a concentration camp, Fania didn’t expect her birthday to even be remembered - but her best friend, Zlatka, risked everything to make her a birthday present, a paper heart.
Simply making the heart - or carrying it - could get either of them killed.
The heart was signed by many of their friends, bearing notes in Polish, German, French, and Hebrew that announced "When you get old, put your glasses on your nose, take this album in your hand and read my signature again,“ and “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!” It was an act of great sacrifice and love for a friend.
Less than 40 days later, they began the Death March from Auschwitz to Ravensbruck, and from Ravensbruck to freedom. Fania carried the heart under her arm the whole time. And survived.
Fania donated the heart to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center in 1988, where it is a featured piece of their exhibit. You can read more about the story of Fania and Zlatka Meg Wiviott’s Paper Hearts, coming September 2015.
God. Even in great darkness there is such love.
the 75th aniversary of the liberation of auschwitz is in a couple of days (jan 27 2020) so I feel this is a good thing to have on your dash. Remember that every single victim and survivor of the holocaust was a person with so much love in their heart and so many storiees and interpersonal relationships like this.
Accused found not guilty in 2018 sex assault, but judge says 'we need to act' to prevent similar crimes
Warning: This story contains graphic details about sexual assault.
The trial centred on the rape of a 14-year-old girl in a B.C. motel room where she’d been plied with alcohol by multiple strange men.
No one has been convicted in the crime and it appears unlikely anyone ever will, but a B.C. judge has used the case to make an urgent appeal for action to protect Indigenous women and girls from violence.
In an acquittal handed down last month, Provincial Court Judge Alexander Wolf said society has failed in its duty to protect people like the victim in this Feb. 2, 2018 assault.
“Indigenous females have a greater chance of being victims to spousal violence. They have an increased chance of being sexually abused while in care, and sexually assaulted when out of care. If you are a female teenager in jail, chances are that you are an Indigenous girl,” wrote Wolf, a member of the Kwikwasut'inuxw Haxwa'mis First Nation.
“We need to do something, we need to act. If we do not act now, when will these horrible crimes against our young girls and women ever end?”
Wolf’s Dec. 22 judgment carefully defines legal terms and explains court procedures in simple, clear language rarely seen in this type of document. He also picks apart common myths about sexual assault and cautions that there’s “no right or wrong way to act when you are a victim.”
