the tragedy of fetlife, the naked social network, especially in the PNW, is that you can click into anyone's profile photos and see a five-year timelapse of them ruining their looks with the most dog nasty hackjob wobbly-lined walleyed tattoos you have ever seen in your life
I thought it was just me thinking the tattoo quality here was terrible. I've seen the stuff some tattoo artists advertise as their own work, and I'm just like... this is the stuff in your portfolio?? You thought this was good enough to include?
Hmm. Mad at some paint. Time for an experiment.
Okay so in fall 2024 i took an acrylic painting class that was a bit frustrating.
I've painted with acrylics before, and am familiar with liquitex and dahler-rawley student-grade paints.
But I knew that for this class I'd go through a lot of paint, so I bought a bunch of paint at walmart that i used alongside a tube of burnt umber from Michael's, a tube of cyan from a pop shop in texas, and like three partial tubes of titanium white liquitex from a local art store that closed about fifteen years ago and that I miss terribly.
This was a beginning painting class, and like a lot of beginner classes it had a bunch of basic exercises. One of the assignments was to translate an image to a grid and transfer it to a small canvas as a color study. Here's what I did:
It was a fun assignment and I liked how it looked so I pinned it to a cork board.
A couple months ago I glanced at it and noticed that maybe the cheap paints I'd gotten were somewhat less lightfast than I'd expected:
This does not match my prior experience with acrylic paint.
Experiment time.
I put notes about the paints inside the canvas, only the cyan and burnt sienna (which were not the Walmart paints) had pigment, opacity, and lightfast info. Didn't bother testing the liquitex white because I know it's solid.
It's hung up next to the super-faded painting and should get the same light (bright but indirect). So we'll see what happens!
Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.

In case anyone hasn't heard, the cyclospora outbreak affecting tons of people in the US right now is coming from Taylor Farms produce. Best to stay away from bagged lettuce and prepared salads completely right now, but especially the ones mentioned in the screenshot:
Taylor Farms Earthbound Farms Little Salad Bar (Aldi) Marketside (Walmart) Kroger House Brand Target private label greens Costco salads and greens etc Trader Joe's chopped salad kits and fresh produce Fast food: McDonalds, Taco Bell, (Yum! Brands), Chipotle, Subway, Pizza Hut, KFC, Olive Garden, Top Golf, Red Lobster, Burger King, etc.
This is not the first time I've heard about a Taylor Farms foodborne illness outbreak. I stopped eating their salads after reading a description of the conditions in their facilities. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything.
We need a fully funded and staffed FDA, and regulations with teeth - and that's exactly what we don't have under Trump. To make things worse, the CDC is no longer tracking these outbreaks. We're on our own.
Taylor Farms DOES supply Sysco, who then supplies most restaurants. Your local favorite isn't safe either.

I don't know why it is that you can get like, "we should be able to talk about queer or trans or intersex bodies without making the conversation about sexual attraction" but it always devolves into like "I hate when people talk about those bodies parts that are involved in sex in a sexual way and as desirable, why can't we have this conversation on a purely abstract level without disgusting sex things." The first thing definitely shouldn't have to lead necessarily to the second, but it seems to happen consistently. I suspect it's all getting lost in the thorny territory of obiectification, that is, necessarily sex is a part of the conversation about our bodies one way or another, but there's some fuzzy areas that happen in the territories between a conversation that's entirely about sex in some ways, and also between discussing a body as a thing to be exploited and dehumanized (in the political sense, not the furry or kink or etc ways).
Anyway, in my end of things, when I see an expression of revulsion at the general sentiment of "I love girldick," I'm going to dip from the whole discussion, because a person who thinks that "I love girldick" is generalizably a completely objectifying, dehumanizing, and unwelcome sentiment in the topic of our many different bodies is, to my mind, a person who I will not trust about myself and my body or anyone's body. Cuz like, I do love my girlfriend's dick and stuff, that's a part of our relationship. It's not all of it and there's a bunch more to it, but in a general way, if I didn't tend towards so much bloviation, I could just as easily express my feelings about our bodies as "I love girldick," and that's fine.
It's at best incredibly naive to expect any kinda queer trans intersex etc body conversation to somehow exclude the mundane connection of crass horniness to our physical embodiment, and at worst deliberately puritanical. We aren't holiday decorations hung up to act as pretty symbols of an abstract idea. We're people and the messiness around how we do or also do not fuck and cum and love and sweat and fight and shit and piss is a part of that. Some of us are freaks and terrible at expressing ideas and we look weird or we're poor or we don't fit a conversation about bodies comfortable or we're disabled or even just plain lecherous - the line between feelings and form is pretty narrow.
To me, a person who isn't comfortable with me talking about cock gobbling or having penis breath is not equipped even remotely to handle how to fuck with a colostomy bag, just for example. Or vice versa, also like, not everyone fucks, it's not all about fucking, but there's a lot of stuff that's messy inside outside and around a body. You don't have to love all of it but ya gotta get cozy enough to live with it.
Fix your hearts or die isn't just for skinny white able bodied vanilla trans people. You need to fix your hears for everyone else too.
I remember a time, a less repressed time in queer discourse, when talking about fucking, how we fuck, who we fuck, was considered radical and revolutionary. It wasn't that long ago.

Organisers of events at the Divine Playhouse say they have cancelled coming events following the furore, and have accused Meta of shutting d
Now this is a fascinating story (nonpaywall link) about a brand new gay club in an old (deconsecrated) church doing Catholic themed sexy parties, and consequentially being shut down by organised Christian opposition almost immediately.
I genuinely admire this lack of knowledge about Christianity. to live in an information space where I don't absorb understandings of Christianity via osmosis...
Nah, they've got a point sort of. The Catholic Christians, apparently, decided this building is no longer sacred. And literally held a ceremony about it!
(I'm too Protestant for any of this, but what "too Protestant" means in this case is that there's no such thing as a Holy Building at all. You have people meeting to do church stuff and it's a church; you don't and it ain't. "Where two or more gather in my name, I am there, and remain there afterward precisely as long as the object they gathered in does," said Jesus never.)
So it's a valid question-- exactly which Christians are complaining, and why do they think the Catholic consecration was spiritually important but the deconsecration wasn't?
it is trivial to discover, using the information provided, that the protestors were catholics.
