You should be out enjoying your summer, like a normal college student. Instead, you’re forced to be tutored 3 times a week for a class you failed. Initially you were dreading it, but upon seeing the cute nerd who was tutoring you, maybe things wouldn’t be so bad…

“…So unfortunately due to this one grade you may not be able to graduate.” Your professor leaned back in his chair as he ran a hand through his graying hair. You pressed your lips into a tight line as you listened to him, avoiding eye contact out of embarrassment.
Usually you were a straight A student, but somehow this class was your weakest subject and you were currently failing.
…and maybe you’d “forgotten” to come to class…for the past three weeks…
“Luckily for you, the school has a multitude of tutors, and i’ve personally picked one just for you.” Your professor continued as he slid a sheet of paper towards you. On the top of the paper was a name along with the tutors major and other qualifications.
“Right. Thanks…Sorry again.” You mumbled sheepishly. You could feel your professor peering up at you with a slightly disappointed look, only serving to make you feel worse. You reached for the paper, but your professor slightly pulled it back.
“Ah, wait a second. I’m not finished. I know you’re a good student, but for whatever reason you lack the discipline to attend or even try in my class.” Your professor raised an eyebrow as he picked the paper back up.
You could feel your cheeks burn with slight embarrassment at being called out like that. You knew he was right though.
“This tutor I’ve hired for you is one of the best on campus. He’ll be able to help you pass my class, but only if you actually attend the sessions.” He hummed.
“You have a habit of skipping out on my lectures, that’s one of the reasons you’re failing this class. Am I right?” Your professor leaned back in his chair as he adjusted his glasses on his face.
You continued to avoid eye contact but nodded, too embarrassed to say anything. You knew this guy was strict, but you didn’t expect him to be like this.
“Well, don’t you worry. I’ve got just the plan to motivate you as well as make sure you don’t skip out on these sessions.” Your professor had a slight smirk on his face as he looked up at you.
“The school has gone ahead and personally paid for your first three sessions. I know you’re a good enough person to not waste somebody else’s money, so you will attend those.” He hummed.
“These sessions will begin on Monday, and continue three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.”
Upon hearing that your eyes snapped over to his. You could feel your mouth gape slightly in disbelief. You would seriously be spending your summer being tutored three times a week? Instead of enjoying it like a normal college student??
“It’s summer, i’m sure the last thing you want to be doing right now is attending tutoring lessons three days a week. So just do yourself a favor and pay good attention to what he’s teaching you. If you do that, you’ll be passing my class in no time.” Your professor leaned forward again, handing the sheet of paper back to you.
“Thank you sir.” You sighed softly through your nose and took the paper from him, giving him a tight smile before turning to leave.
Once you were out the door you leaned back on the wall outside and let your eyes scan across the paper.
‘Satoru Gojo: Physics and mathematics major. President of the chess and debate club.’
“Never heard of this guy…” You thought to yourself as you quirked a brow.
“Must be pretty smart to have been recommended like that…and he’s a double major.” You raised your eyebrows slightly before folding the paper up and shoving it into your pocket.
“Whatever. I don’t need some nerd telling me how to do this stuff. I could’ve easily done it myself…” You grumbled under your breath as you pushed yourself off the wall and started to make your way back to your dorm.
“Shokoooo” You whined as you burst through the door of your room. Your best friend and roommate was currently laid back on her bed lazily scrolling on her phone. She turned her head to you as you approached.
“What’s up with you?” She chuckled as she sat up a little, blowing some of the smoke from her vape out of her lips in a small stream. The sickeningly sweet scent of blue raspberry filled the air. You weren’t exactly fond of this habit of hers, but at least she wasn’t smoking cigarettes anymore…
“I’m failing!” You continued to whine as you flopped over onto her bed dramatically. She just laughed as she leaned over and placed her vape on the nightstand next to her bed.
“Failing?? Aren’t you like the smartest person in existence?” Shoko scoffed, smirking in amusement at your dramatics.
You lifted your head up just to glare lightly at her before you sighed and propped your head up on the palm of your hand.
“I dunno, I just didn’t think skipping class for three weeks straight would affect me this much…” You mumbled as you looked away.
Shoko’s eyes widened when she heard what you said.
“You skipped??” Shoko asked in disbelief, running a hand through her short brown hair.
“Wow…” She hummed lowly, nodding her head.
“Yeah that’s bad. First time you decide to skip more than one day and you take it to the absolute extreme. That’s so you.” She chuckled and shook her head, leaning back against the wall behind her bed.
“Hey!” You scoffed as you threw a stuffed animal at her, pouting slightly.
“It’s MATH. You can’t blame me for not wanting to go…” You grumbled.
“I mean yeah— but three weeks is insane!” Shoko continued to laugh.
“I told you this for some sympathy not to get laughed at!” You glared, lightly shoving her arm. Shoko just shrugged, still smirking at you in amusement.
“You don’t need to rub it in, my professor already got on me about it.” You ran a hand over your face as you sighed. Shoko raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
“I tried to show up to class discreetly today, but the only seat open was one RIGHT in front of his desk. So class already sucked, but to make it even WORSE he called me out to stay after class to ‘talk’.” You rambled, running a hand through your hair in frustration.
“Then he goes on to say if I don’t pass his class I might not graduate, so obviously I’m freaking the fuck out. And to make things worse he tells me that he PERSONALLY found me a tutor and already scheduled the next three appointments for me!” You groaned loudly.
Shoko just listened, nodding along as she tried not to laugh again.
“Well, do you at least know who the dude tutoring you is?” Shoko asked.
“Some nerd named ‘Satoru Gojo’.” You rolled your eyes, reaching into your back pocket for the sheet of paper from earlier.
Shoko’s eyes seemed to widen a little in recognition at the name.
“Oh, Gojo? Yeah, I know him. Nice guy, real smart. He’s friends with Geto.” She hummed.
“He’s friends with Geto??” You asked skeptically. Suguru Geto was a pretty well known frat bro around your campus. He was often the one hosting parties. You occasionally attended, but he was more Shoko’s friend since they’ve known each other since high school.
“He’s a nice guy. Trust me, once you meet him you won’t be complaining much longer about having to go to tutoring…” Shoko smirked, handing you back the paper with a wink.
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion before you sat up from her bed.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked.
“Oh nothing” Shoko hummed teasingly.
“You’re the worst.” You sighed as you walked over to your side of the room. Shoko just laughed as she went back to scrolling on her phone.
Two days later and it was Monday, the day you normally dreaded just because it meant you had classes. But since it was summer you were free.
Or you were supposed to be free.
Instead you felt dread for an entirely different reason. It was your first tutoring session, and to say you weren’t looking forward to it would be an understatement.
The appointment was scheduled bright and early (for you) at 10am. Normally you’d be sleeping in until at least 12, but because of this you’d woken up at 9. You begrudgingly rolled out of bed, being careful not to wake a peacefully sleeping Shoko while you picked out your outfit and gathered your notebooks and pens.
You took one last glance at yourself in the mirror by your door before leaving to make your way to the library.
You pushed your way through the large wooden double-doors of the library before walking in. At least the place had air-conditioning. The cool air was a nice relief from the scorching heat outside.
Your eyes scanned around the mostly empty library, searching for someone nerdy who seemed like they could be a math tutor.
At first it seemed like nobody was even there. That was until you spotted him.
He was sat near the back of the library, and God was he gorgeous. Snowy white hair and eyelashes, broad shoulders, and a stupidly sharp jawline. There’s no way he’s your tutor.
The man skimmed through the book he was reading, tracing a long finger through the pages. You couldn’t help but feel your mind wander to less than innocent places just watching…
You quickly shook your head and continued to look around the library. That man couldn’t be your tutor. No way in hell.
Maybe he just wasn’t here yet! Some tutor he was, being late to his own session. Right…?
You continued to look around until it became increasingly obvious the only people there were you and that man. It was now 10:05. Might as well take a seat.
You walked closer to the man and took a seat a little ways away from him. You tried to discreetly glance over to him from your seat as you pulled out your notebooks and calculator.
After a few minutes you could feel the man’s eyes on you. A nervous feeling formed in your stomach as you tried not to make eye contact.
That ultimately failed when the man stood up and cleared his throat. Oh God, was he walking over to you?
You pretended not to notice until he walked around the table and stood directly next to you.
“Hi, sorry to bother you but uh, I’m pretty sure I’m your tutor.” The man spoke up, giving you a sheepish smile. His voice was even deeper than you’d imagined and you tried hard not to show your interest in him so obviously through your face.
“You’re l/n, right? Your professor assigned me to tutor you today at 10.” He asked. You looked up at him now. At this point being so close to him you couldn’t help but stare. His white lashes were unfairly long, and the black frames he wore accentuated his eyes even more.
In your staring you’d almost forgotten to respond. That was until Gojo gave a nervous chuckle and glanced to the side.
“Unless I’m mistaken—? Sorry I— You just seemed like you were here for— And the calculator, I mean— Math, you know—“ He stammered the longer you stared at him. A subtle pink flush dusting across his cheeks.
“Oh, yeah. No, that’s me.” You spoke up, breaking your stare as you gave him a smile. Seeing a man like that get flustered just by a little staring was cute…maybe Shoko was right.
“Oh,” His voice raised in pitch a little as he smiled nervously. “alright then. That’s good.”
“Uhm. I’m sure you saw my resume, but I’ll go ahead and formally introduce myself. I’m Satoru Gojo.” He nodded as he extended his hand out to you, large and slightly calloused with long fingers.
You stood up and quickly realized the stark height difference between the two of you. This man was a giant, 6’3 at least. How in the hell was someone who looked like him spending his summer tutoring??
Gojo seemed to take notice of it as well as he tilted his head down to look at you, offering a nervous smile as he glanced down at his currently empty hand, waiting for you to shake it.
“f/n l/n.” You nodded as you lightly shook his hand. The touch alone made your heart pound in your chest, but you continued to play it cool.
He nodded as he gave your hand a small squeeze before letting go. The action made your cheeks momentarily grow warm before you looked away and took your seat again. Gojo followed suit and took a seat across from you, moving his stuff over.
“Well then, introductions aside, you’re obviously being tutored for a reason. And that is…?” He asked, tilting his head slightly as he looked at you from across the table.
Your expression soured slightly at he brought that up, and he quickly took notice.
“Oh, sorry. Sensitive subject?” He asked sheepishly.
“We don’t have to talk about it, uhm, let’s just get started then.” He hummed, reaching over to grab your notebook. Just before he did he glanced up at you for permission, to which you gave him a nod.
He nodded back and pulled the notebook towards him, opening it up and skimming through the pages. You couldn’t help but stare again as he carefully traced his long fingers across the pages, reading your messily written notes. The glasses he was wearing were low on his face and he gently pushed them back up with the back of his hand.
He gave a small nod as he continued to flip through the pages before he closed the notebook and handed it back to you.
“Right. This is relatively simple stuff, so we shouldn’t have much trouble.” He smiled. He pulled out a notepad of his own and used his thumb to click open the pen he’d pulled from his pocket.
You nodded as you rested your chin in the palm of your hand, continuing to stare at him. He still seemed a bit nervous by it, which entertained you even more.
“Not much of a talker, are you?” He asked, a hint of nervous energy present in his voice still.
“Well I’m not the one who has to do the talking right now, am I?” You smirked. Gojo raised an eyebrow at your slight sass before he gave a subtle smirk of his own.
“I suppose that’s true. Well, let’s get started then.” He hummed.
The two of you spent the next two hours going over various formulas and solving problems. You had to admit but he was a great teacher. He almost made math seem enjoyable.
Gojo gave you a final problem to solve and he watched as you solved it with ease.
You handed your notebook over to him and he nodded along as he mentally checked the answer.
“Wow, you learn fast. Great job.” He praised you with a smile. That nearly killed you. You were definitely a sucker for praise, and you’d gotten a ton of it today from him.
If you didn’t know any better you’d think he was doing it on purpose.
“Well it’s mostly thanks to you.” You rubbed the back of your neck with a sheepish smile.
“Normally I suck at math. That’s why I needed a tutor in the first place. Well that and the fact that I skipped the past three weeks of lectures…” You mumbled the last part, but Gojo didn’t miss it and his eyes widened.
“Three weeks?? What were you—“ He began before he quickly shut up at the sight of your glare.
“Sorry, sorry.” He shrunk a little with a sheepish laugh.
“Well, none of that matters. You did great today, i’m looking forward to seeing you improve even more by the next session which is…” He hummed as he checked his calendar on his smart watch.
“Wednesday.” You spoke up.
“Alright. Wednesday. Well, I’ll see you then. Remember to work on those practice problems I gave you and you’ll know this as well as me by then.” He smiled as he slung his bag over his shoulder and stood up. You were reminded once again of his height as he walked around the table next to you and made his way to the doors.
You nodded as you watched him leave. You mentally scolded yourself when you noticed your eyes wandering down to the way his slacks fit around his body.
Once he left you reached down to grab your notebook which was still open to the page you had just worked on. On the top of the page however was a phone number written hastily in pen.
‘(6XX) XXX-XXX-XXX Text me if you need any extra help! —Gojo :)’
You lightly shook your head as you read it, unable to hide the smile tugging on your lips as you packed your notebook away.
That night you decided to be bold and text his number.
“Hey, thank you again for today. I learned a lot.”
Gojo responded within seconds, almost as if he was waiting by the phone for you to text.
“I’m glad! You learn really fast, I enjoyed seeing you :)” He texted and upon reading it your heart skipped a beat. Enjoyed seeing you?
“Enjoyed seeing your fast improvement Lol! Good job again! Haha” He quickly sent that text. You could practically feel the panic through the phone, and you couldn’t help but chuckle softly to yourself as you typed a response.
“Thanks. See you Wednesday.”
“See you Wednesday l/n. Goodnight.” He texted back quickly.
And you liked it way more than you cared to admit.
Before you knew it, it was Friday. Your final pre-paid session.
That whole week you’d been texting Gojo more and more frequently under the guise of “needing help”, which you absolutely didn’t.
But hey, he responded within seconds each time. You already had him wrapped around your finger and it’d only been 5 days.
Your session was a bit later than usual today, at 4pm. You decided it’d be okay to be a little late since you wanted to surprise him.
You arrived 15 minutes late and saw him sitting in his usual spot. He was glancing around the library, most likely looking for you, as he tapped his fingers against the wooden table.
“Hey.” You smiled as you walked up to the table. In your hands were two sugary iced coffees filled to the top with whipped cream and caramel.
“Sorry I’m late. Wanted to surprise you, but the line was longer than I expected.” You hummed as you handed him the drink.
He smiled at you as he brought the straw to his lips. His eyes seemed to sparkle at the sweet taste. Guess he has a sweet tooth.
“What’s this for?” He asked.
“It’s a thank you gift.” You hummed.
“Thank you? For what?” He tilted his head, taking another sip.
You reached into your bag before handing him a sheet of paper.
“For this.” You glanced toward the paper. On the the top circled in red ink was a percentage.
Gojo picked the paper up and squinted as he read the score. His eyebrows raised and a smile formed on his lips.
“Wow, a 97? Great job!” He beamed as he set the paper back down.
You took in the praise as you smiled back.
“All thanks to you. My grade went up a ton just from that.” You hummed.
“Enjoy my little thank you gift.” You chuckled as you took your seat across from him. You removed the straw from your cup as you raised the whipped cream coated plastic to your lips.
Gojo watched as your tongue swirled around the straw at an almost teasingly slow speed. He swallowed thickly, but he didn’t look away. You could feel his stares as you popped the straw back into your cup and licked your lips.
“Ready?” You asked, and Gojo blinked and slightly shook his head, breaking out of his daze.
“What—? Oh, right. Yes, sorry.” He nodded as he pushed his glasses further up his nose bridge and opened up his notebook. The tips of his ears were burning a bright red as he cleared his throat.
You smirked slightly to yourself seeing the affect you so clearly had on him.
This session ended pretty quickly since Gojo didn’t have much left to teach you. It was now 5:30.
You were a little sad to have it end. As much as you hated math, you enjoyed having him teach you. He often went off on tangents about movies and video games he enjoyed, and you just sat there and nodded along.
You weren’t sure if he knew you weren’t going to continue your sessions after today though, and you weren’t looking forward to saying something about it.
The two of you got packed up and left the library together. He held the door open for you and as you stepped outside the warm summer breeze gently flowed through your hair. The sunshine felt nice on your skin that was cold from the air conditioning inside the library.
Once Gojo got outside with you, you faced him. You knew it was now or never.
“I have something to tell you—“
“Can I ask you something—?”
You both spoke at the same time.
“Oh, sorry. You go.” You said awkwardly.
“No, I’m sorry I cut you off. What is it?” He shook his head.
“Oh, alright. Uhm…” You hummed as you rocked back on your feet. Why was this so hard? You’ve only known the guy for what, five days?
“Today was my last school paid session, and seeing as i’ve learned all I needed to pass the class from you already I don’t think I’m gonna continue.” You avoided eye contact as you told him. You could feel the slight disappointment radiating from him.
“Oh.” Gojo responded, sounding a little sad.
“Well alright. I’m glad to have helped you out. I enjoyed tutoring you, even though it was only for a short amount of time.” He smiled. Still, you could sense a bit of disappointment from him.
“Yeah, you seriously helped me out a ton. Thank you.” You nodded as you looked back at him.
There was a beat of awkward silence where you two just stared at each other. You nervously rocked on your feet and Gojo clutched the strap of his backpack tighter.
“Well…I gotta get back to my dorm. But uhm…thank you again.” You smiled. Why was this so awkward now?
He smiled back and watched as you turned to walk away. You had walked about 5 steps before he spoke up.
“f/n, wait!” He spoke up as he stepped forward.
“I had something to ask you.”
You felt your heart beat faster in your chest. You secretly hoped he’d do something like this.
You turned around and faced him, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes?” You asked, looking up at him.
He looked down at the ground before clearing his throat.
“Uh…well, I’m not really sure how to ask this since i’ve never done it before…but will you— I mean would you like to— uh—“ He stammered and you stared at him, biting your lip so you didn’t laugh at how nervous he was.
“My friend Geto, I’m sure you know him, he’s uh, he’s having a party tonight at 8, and I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come. Uhm…with me?” He asked, glancing back up at you momentarily before he looked away again. His cheeks were dusted a faint pink and it was honestly adorable how a big guy like him got nervous just asking you out.
“…Yeah I’m down.” You smiled, your own cheeks matching his own.
Gojo’s eyes lit up as he looked back at you.
“Really—?” He asked in surprise.
“Uh I mean, cool. That’s cool.” He cleared his throat as he smiled.
You chuckled softly as you watched him try not to grin.
“Right. Then I’ll see you tonight?” He asked.
“Yep.” You smiled back. “Pick me up at 7:30, I’ll text you my dorm number.”
“Pick you— Oh right! Of course, sorry.” He mentally cursed himself for forgetting about that.
“Alright. See you tonight Satoru.” You hummed, giving him a small smirk.
Gojo blushed at the use of his first name and watched as you turned and walked away for real this time.
