Oh Scorpio, an oftentimes alienating time/place/energy to be within. Fixed water, a whirlpool or frozen block of emotion. An abyss with a tiny light somewhere in there, taunting you with your own thoughts, traumas, terrors. Only when you’re broken down altogether, pallid and wan, when you’ve accepted that these t’s are just as much part of you as the parts who fear them, if not more so. Only then are you allowed to bathe in the sun. for a bit.

Scorpio holds the knowledge that transformation is ongoing. that we’re all sinking into perpetual evolutionary quicksand. 

Scorpio knows the power in an upgrade, learns from the cardinal waters of cancer that there’s something sultry in shedding, shelling, and shucking

Since our Cultivating and Releasing: Scorpio Season Eclipse Group has come to a close, I wanted to give a snapshot of what came up for the group and me, personally:

This October and November we, once again, experienced eclipses in Scorpio and Taurus, as we did during Taurus season earlier this year. Unlike Taurus season, the eclipse energy felt much weightier. The South Node in Scorpio had the company of the Sun, Mercury, and Venus—all reinforcing Scorpio’s deep and heavy energy, creating an emotional taxing time. During the 7-week program, questioning decisions and returning to the past were universal for our group members, along with heightened fears and insecurities. It prompted us to talk about relationships, life’s purpose, anger, money, thinking vs. doing, and home. Along with our usual individual and group sessions, we also split up our 6 community members into pairs, so they could have someone to debrief with in between sessions. This gave group members a chance to form a deeper connection and feel more in community during our group sessions.

It’s interesting to look back at my little reflection from the end of the Taurus szn eclipses because some of my questions been answered concerning what I willing to do and give up to be happy. Things had changed, majorly leading up to and during the eclipse season—I have truly made moves to move somewhere that holds a lot more potential to make me happy. The South Node is keeping me in place for now, showing me time and time again where I am and how easy it is to continue with unhealthy living and relationship dynamics, but I refuse to accept these conditions for longer than is necessary. I just hope that what I am doing won’t turn out to be even more draining.

let’s just start by saying that in this house, we are not capitalists; we refuse to hoard wealth; we reject the exploitation of our labor; we reject being cogs of [racial] capitalism; we reject the 40-hour workweek and conventional labor, and these rejections have brought us here in the pursuit of liberation from these plagues. we just two sistas tryna rest and heal and learn.

Countless (like an absurd amount of) hours have gone into kay’s studying astro to a point where her virgo-placement ass feels qualified to offer this work.

Our Solar Return

That’s right fam—cosmic healing has finished an entire circuit around the sun. It’s incredible how much we’ve accomplished in such a short amount of time, and we are ready to continue this journey, ready to strengthen our practice.

When we first started, we set out to provide astrology readings for our community, connect with people and provide something different from traditional talk-therapy. A year later we’ve found ourselves actively building community.

At the start, kay was just doing individual astro readings while Erica Joy handled all things background, and now we are in the middle of our second multi-week community group program, have created a community newsletter, and of course, continue to give personalized readings. Cosmic Healing has evolved throughout the last year, because we continually reflected about our mission with creating and maintaining Cosmic Healing. We understand that this is still the very beginning, and that how we operate will shift as we move through life. We want to thank everyone who has supported us, become a member of the fam, and those who will be joining us down the line.

Erica’s Reflection

I knew kay and I had the passion, ideas, and general capability to sustain Cosmic Healing to this point, but I was still scared that we wouldn’t get to a year. Life is unpredictable—I had to move around and travel way more than expected in the last year; I had just graduated from college; I didn't have any savings. Things just weren't in the most ideal place to start a whole endeavor, but now I see how maybe they were actually in the perfect place. I love that I have done this with my sister because kay has a deeper understanding of what I can do, and it’s easier to share my true thoughts and feelings with kay compared to job environments in the past where the norm is the work is important than the people.

We've been able to create a practice out of our values, and it has been beautiful, and I'm grateful we can continue. My birthday wish for Cosmic Healing is to be a source of connection and liberation

kay’s Reflection

A year of Cosmic Healing! Wow. So much learned in beginning and sustaining this bb practice. And at the core of it all: sisterhood and soul.

Erica Joy and I had never really partnered together on anything, and our dedication to moving with respect and integrity when it comes to this practice—and our sisterhood FIRST—continues to impress me. CH was born at a time of uncertainty about most things, when we wondered what we could do for the people we love, with the skills that we had, and the rest we needed, from our (fractured) home. What could we do that we’d also love doing? We wanted to put our hearts into something that wouldn’t exploit them, and so we entrusted them to those of our chosen communities who choose us back.

While I continue to feel discomfort in my soul space about selling my labor, it’s a discomfort i’m not interested in dispelling. It’s a visceral response that I cherish as a reminder of who I am, who I come from, and what I believe in. And when it comes to the act of reading itself, my soul soars. The special thing about this practice, is that I haven’t been more fulfilled by an act of service than I do with astrology readings. I give them with love, and I love how they make me feel. For me, they’re a manifestation of the intertwining of the 8th house matters of energy and resource exchange, mutual trust and aid, the importance of intimacy, the beauty in delving below the surface with and of another and making meaning in the dark.

I’m so grateful to have been able to start our own little corner over here. To find our stride, abide by our values, and explore what it means to develop something tangible from just an idea. I really hope that we’re able to continue with Cosmic Healing. I hope it remains fruitful for us and our communities. I’m SO grateful to those who have supported us up until now, I’m SO excited to meet and re-connect with those who find us in the future. Those who share our values, who value us and see our vision are the reason we’ve made it to a year❣️

heyo!! I’m erica joy :) please use she/they pronouns. I have no preference, but I appreciate when my pronouns are interchanged.

I am a taurus sun with an aries rising and aries moon.

I am a fat, Black queer person who’s really just out here tryna learn who I am, especially as a bb aries rising. As a recent Bachelor’s of Social Work grad (c/o ‘21) who found (way too much?) identity through leadership roles on my college campus, astrology and tarot have been ways to figure out who I am outside of being a good leader.

In true Taurus fashion, I am determined to prioritize rest and bask what makes me happy. Right now, that looks like reading cute comics, making semi-elaborate meals, watercoloring bright blobs, learning Brazilian Portuguese, and watching The Real Housewives.

I organize community spaces for the CH Fam. Cosmic Healing is a community endeavor, and as such, there needs to be opportunities to meet and support one another. I plan + lead group conversations, mindfulness sessions, and an upcoming newsletter. I’m also sometimes the person you’ll hear from before and after sessions with kay, ensuring that you understand the different session options, confirming appointment times, and supporting in all ways I can.

MY FACILITATION STYLE + VALUES

I love working with people one-on-one, but seeing people connect and bond is so fulfilling! Co-creating a space! Planning activities! I have been facilitating group discussions for over 7 years, beginning my journey as president of French club (lol). While attending Seattle University c/o ‘21, I continued leading conversations as a team leader for my university’s Center for Community Engagement, a group leader for orientation and new student retreat, co-president of our gender justice center, and as president of our QTPOC club. In my final year of my Social Work program, I took a course dedicated to group work while also co-facilitating a creative arts group at a community mental health organization.

Whether 3 or 10 or 50—group work has the capacity to form relationships, expand perspectives, and lead to change. I have a pretty adaptive facilitating style being that I’m an earth sun, fire rising + moon, and water venus; I can keep the conversation grounded, hype the group up, and create space for all the feels. That being said, I tend to lean towards semi-structured and directed group planning, allowing for space to have the session to be altered in real time. I practice from the mindset that while I have the title of facilitator, everyone involved in the group helps to create the dynamic. Please ask your fellow group members questions and share your reactions. I acknowledge (and love!) that each group has different goals and energies that impact the dynamic and needs of the time we spend together. I like to bring different activities and ways of reflecting into the group, this could look like participants bringing in a song to share with the group or doing a quick art activity or maybe even doing a show-and-tell.

I lead with a pro- fat, Black, and queer lens. I reject white supremacy and the values that have seeped into our society. I believe we as people all have the capacity to cause harm, and we need to be held accountable when those mistakes are made. In groups, it is not uncommon for uncomfortable situations to come up. As the facilitator, I understand that I have a responsibility to mediate. We each have different thresholds and experience the same actions/words differently, so it is also necessary for members to let me know when harm has occurred. I am currently educating myself on the Transformative Justice process, so I can approach any situations to the best of my ability.

In my social work program, I learned that because spaces were client-centered, I could not share about myself and my experiences, BUT with Cosmic Healing Family—we are indeed FAMILY, so for our groups, please know that I will also be processing, healing, and growing with you.

we are nonbinary Blackwomen, acknowledging how womanhood was constructed in opposition to our very beings and rejecting the gender binary and it’s violent roots and enforcement,

we are descendants of the transatlantic slave trade, cultivating a connection to our ancestors and making room for them in our lives

and our practice is rooted primarily in this expansive experience,

its our hope to connect with Black people, our kin, about honoring, finding joy in, our soulhood, our hearts, our natal promises.

it’s so hard to learn anything true when yt supremacist thought sets its claws into most all accessible knowledge, but

This work, started by two radical sistas, is borne out of dreams, and thus, it is borne of rest. We envision homeostasis, a world without extraction, exploitation, and greed.

understanding facilitates healing, as does rest. there’s no achieving liberation without community, and community is nothing without integrity.

We believe that we are children of the solar system and that there is wisdom in the stars. We use this wisdom to seek a holistic understanding of our varied selves and the world around us. We use this wisdom to heal from the violence we face and the harmful conditioning we’re subject to under the systems of oppression that presently dominate the collective consciousness.
