I have always found it very peculiar how so many chronic weed-smokers seem to never progress beyond being obsessed with the herb.
It dominates their conversations, their art, music, clothing, their -well, their everything - and this just stays the same for years and years and years...
The topic "weed and its effects" became boring to me a few years after I started smoking. You can only talk so much about "Wow, man I was high as fuck last night" and "This weed is killer, dude" or even "The babylon is always ragging our asses" before it becomes a fucking drag.
It is a nice drug, it is a nice medicine, it can be very intense, opening, etc. etc., but it is just a tool, after all.
When something dominates your whole Life, you are basically just addicted and obsessed.
Under the thrall of a pattern of over-consumption. The bitch of the herb. Like drunks like to make booze jokes and let it rule their lives, those types of weed heads do the same.
Don't let the drug/medicine of your choice decide who you are going to be and what you are going to talk about for the rest of your life.
Nobody likes a one-trick pony for long.
I like to extoll about the qualities of good cannabis from time to time, but I don't let it limit my Life to a small bubble of cannabis obsession. If one can only hang out around weed, stoners and their haunts, the good things cannabis can give you are lost, mostly...
Same goes for anything, really, be it food, drug, activity, or whatnot; keep expanding your horizons.
It is not to get rid of the feelings, but simply to allow them to be. To understand that as you can allow them, then indeed, they will float into a different frequency.

Have you ever wondered why libraries have special atmospheres? They are places where many congregate but where silence is the code. Quietness in an atmosphere means there is the presence of quiet minds, and quiet minds are not only relaxed, they can concentrate easily and create more freely. Imagine you are in the library of your mind, browsing the accumulated wisdom on the shelves of your life - listen to the silence, be aware of the stillness. Now you can really listen. Now you can really hear. Now you can really think. Now you can create. And behold, you are an artist. Did you not know that silence and creativity are lovers?

Of course, we cannot escape the conditioning we have acquired through our upbringing. This includes the patterns we have unconsciously mimicked from our parents. The traumas we may have unfortunately experienced such as childhood abuse from our family, friends, or strangers. And sometimes, characteristics from popular celebrities we have yearned toward, slowly integrating damaging personalities that are not our own. The beliefs and false motifs and generalizations, the so-called “common sense” ideals that have been instilled in us by our surrounding peers - who have also come from a conditioned past, riddled with vices they have yet to identify or make aware themselves. The authorities and representatives of “standard” bodies of knowledge that have been ingrained into us by education, a territory or map that we must adhere to, otherwise we are wrong, incompetent, and told we are an inadequate human being. Our very behaviors, our daily actions, our habits have unconsciously molded our perceptions with these distorted ideals. Our hearts have become hard due to the programming as a result of the various environmental inputs we have endured through. We run amok, where tension and stress is normal, and the very foundations we function under affect how we deal with our day to day responsibilities and social interactions with others - and more importantly - towards ourselves. But conditioning was never permanent. Our minds have always had the capacity for change, to rewrite neurological pathways, a malleability, or if you want to get technical - neuroplasticity. Just like how uncomfortable it would be to attempt to write with your opposite hand, it will feel uneasy in the beginning. But through persistence, patience, desire, faith, belief, and a commitment to achieve the change you want, it is possible to rewrite your life. But not without sacrifice, but not without pain, not without a necessary trust in your ability to break through the debilitating and destructive patterns. There are methods out there for us to incorporate the change we want and it takes curiosity to find that there are possibilities, there are techniques that you can practice - but you have to begin…. and continue… with the grind and grittiness of it all.

The notion of eliminating strong negative emotions is a dangerous and unattainable message. Without pain we cannot feel empathy. Without loss we cannot appreciate what we have. To give up one side means the loss of its counter point. Anyone who has attempted this knows it only results in repression, not release, which ultimately resurfaces. It will leak out of you if you do not face it. So when you’re angry, be angry. When you’re sad, be sad. When you’re in some kind of pain, be with it for those moments. Also, whenever you’re in these states of "shit", be aware of whether you’re approaching it with constructive anguish or repetitious, useless rumination - know the difference.
Learning to pause inwardly in the midst of action, to step back from and look impartially at the mental, emotional, and physical energies, associations, and impulses that are driving your life right now, is one of the most profound actions you can take on your own behalf. But you have to pause many times to understand. It is not something you can just think about doing. It is something you actually have to do.

This one hits home for me. Do we still do this today? Observe the moments you do find an idiosyncrasy or two you dislike about others. It's commonplace to make firm conclusions about how you feel towards people's particular actions or behaviors. I know it all too well. I used to make rash statements about my friends, acquaintances, family members, coworkers, and even strangers without even inviting questions to underpin the reasons "why they are the way they are." We reduce our evaluations to mere simplified, destructive descriptions or labels and mistake it for the whole. Words are so powerful that they can cast a spell on us. When we think someone is a slut, fag, hoe, a bitch, a racist, a druggie, selfish, conceited, and all the rest of it, we intensify our views which are inherently false since it disregards any kind of gestalt approach. Gestalt is "a configuration or pattern of elements so unified as a whole that its properties cannot be derived from a simple summation of its parts." To put it simply it means the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We are complex human beings coming from a rich history of growth that involves environmental, psychological, social and cultural influences - all of which has created a unique formula that makes you, you. The next time you think of someone with a reductionist attitude, give it a listen to what you're saying. It is fair? Have you invited questions to build your understanding? Are you at least sensitive to the history you don't know anything about? Only when we can consider these questions, can we establish tolerance, thus sidelining any quick disagreements while improving relationships altogether. Only when we listen or have the courage to ask questions, can we finally embody a sympathetic awareness of everyone's personal struggles. —Cosmic Observist
If I am completely transcendent, I do not differentiate myself from other people or other things. Everything is one (i.e., in unity). In fact, philosophers like Alan Watts often discusses how boundaries are merely artificial lines in our minds. They discuss how all matter (or energy since matter is made of energy) is connected. The air around me is always connected to me. The air around you is always connected to you. The air around me and the air around you are connected with each other. Therefore you and I are actually connected. In fact, everything is connected. Everything is one. Boundaries are not real lines out there in the physical world. We create them only out of convenience. It is convenient and useful to think of the chair that I am sitting in as separate from me because it allows me to assume that the chair does not come with me when I stand up and go to the bathroom. The point is, however, the chair and I are not physically separate. They are only perceived as separate in our minds. A state of transcendence is a state in which we feel this deep spiritual unity with all of these things and do not distinguish ourselves from anyone or anything else in the world. When we are in this state, we feel highly energized because we identify with all of the air around us and not just the air inside of us (as an individual) or inside of our group (because we have no concept of "I" or "my group" as separate from anything or anyone else). No one can take energy from us and there is no need to take energy from others. Because we do not differentiate ourselves from others, taking or giving energy is not only meaningless but inconceivable.

In keeping with a view now prevalent, let us designate the realm in which the spiritual and creative activity of man is carried out with the name “culture.” As part of culture, we count science, together with its cultivation and organization. Thus science is ranked among values which man prizes and toward which, out of a variety of motives, he directs his attention.
But so long as we take science only in this cultural sense, we will never be able to gauge the scope of its essence. This is equally the case for art. Even today we readily name these two together: “art and science.” Art also is represented as one sphere of cultural enterprise. But then we experience nothing of its essence. Regarded in terms of its essence, art is a consecration and a refuge in which the real bestows the long-hidden splendor upon man ever anew, that in such light he may see more purely and hear more clearly what addresses itself to his essence.
Science is no more a cultural activity of man than is art. Science is one way, and indeed one decisive way, in which all that is presents itself to us.
Therefore we must say: The reality within which man of today moves and attempts to maintain himself is, with regard to its fundamental characteristics, determined on an increasing scale by and in conjunction with that which we call Western European science.
When we ponder this ongoing event, it becomes evident that, in the Western world and during the eras of its history, science has developed such a power as could never have been met with on the earth before, and that consequently this power is ultimately to be spread over the entire globe.
Is science, then, nothing but a fabrication of man that has been elevated to this dominance in such a way as to allow us to assume that one day it can also be demolished again by the will of man through the resolutions of his commissions? Have you ever thought about your own conditioning? Not many do. These are the automatic responses and behaviors we blindly go about without having to think. For centuries we have been conditioned by nationality, class, tradition, religion, language, education, literature, art, custom, convention, propaganda of all kinds, economic pressure, the food we eat, the climate we live in, our family, our friends, our experiences — every influence you can think of — and, therefore, our responses to every problem are conditioned. Conditioning, on the other hand, is beneficial because it allows us to operate on auto-pilot and leaves our mind to think about other things, and perform other actions simultaneously for our personal benefit. It is a 'program' that is written in your unconscious, a survival mechanism. Conditioning is also synonymous with habit. The trouble is that most of us are run by our conditioning and go unnoticed. They can run our lives without our conscious attention. We are conditioned to make assumptions, conditioned to think in fear, conditioned to believe what is 'sexy', what is 'skinny', 'fat', when all of it just a very crude way of looking at things. It's simplified, destructive thinking. We are also conditioned to think that 'love' is what you see in the movies, when in fact, it has been detrimental to our established perception of love and has caused more confusion than anything. Can we take an honest look at our own conditioned behaviors and observe without judgement? Can we hone in on these habits and make way for change? Luckily, because of our brain's plasticity, our conditioning can be modified over time with practice and repetition. The latest research suggests it takes around an average of 66 days to form most habits. But the first and most important step is to be aware of your conditioning. You can rewrite these pathways but it is up to you to identify what is holding you back before they can be transformed.

We cannot say much about it at this juncture except that it can be compared with material of electrical constituency which has, if concentrated to one point, the same burning quality as fire. If a mind is divided upon several thoughts its burning force is dispersed in various directions. If concentrated upon one point it becomes as a burning-glass to the 'Sun' of its own Ego.
