be good to people for no reason
scientists wont tell you this! (because it's not true)
experts don't want you to know this! (because it's made up)
doctors HATE this one trick! (because it's dangerous and unhealthy)
Look don't test me I'll block and turn off reblogs with a hair trigger if you all can't be normal about this but I do feel like it needs to be said that "do you think abortion should be allowed if the mother's reason for wanting it is—" the only acceptable answer to that question is Yes no matter what the end of that sentence is going to be. I do not care if someone wants an abortion for selfish reasons or bigoted reasons or cruel reasons or any other hypothetical strawman you can think of, there is no circumstance where someone should be denied the right to opt out of a forced pregnancy and birth. First of all, who's in charge of interrogating everyone seeking an abortion to make sure they're doing it for reasons Pure Of Heart? Second, why do you think Forced Birth is an appropriate punishment to inflict on anyone? If your answer to "should abortion be allowed when the motivation is—" is anything but an unequivocal "yes, and I don't care about the motivation" then you are not pro-choice
Yep, as a disability justice person I sometimes encounter resistance to this principle from people who are concerned about abortion being used for ableist reasons.
"Do you really think a pregnant person should be able to abort a fetus just for having Down's Syndrome?" people ask. Or just for having some genetic markers for Autism?
And my answer to that, always, is I don't think a child should be forced to be born to a parent that does not want them. And I don't believe a parent should be forced to give birth to a child they are not prepared for and do not want.
Is it ableist for a pregnant person to not want a disabled child? Sure, but I find myself far less interested in the purity or impurity of the pregnant person's morals than I am in the fact that disabled people and their families are provided almost no resources in society and are excluded for nearly every area of public life. There are many reasons why a parent might not want to give birth to a disabled child, or feel unprepared to raise them, that go far beyond that parent's own personal prejudices. And even those prejudices are informed by economic, legal, and social structures that make it very difficult, expensive, and isolating to raise a disabled child.
Furthermore, I don't care if any person gets an abortion for the right or wrong reasons because I do not think there should be some outside body that decides what a legitimate reason for seeking an abortion is. Who is going to determine whether a pregnant person is seeking abortion for the "right" reasons? Will it be the government? Which government, state or local? Will it be a social worker? A doctor? An ethics board? I don't trust any institution to determine whether someone is seeking an abortion for the right reasons or not, and I don't think it would ever be possible to institute laws that would prevent "unjust" or "immoral" abortions alone. Even if it were possible to magically only prevent abortions among people with horrifically bigoted views, I would oppose it, because as OP said, I do not believe in forced birth.
It really is that simple. And the same principles apply to a panoply of political issues that are needlessly concerned with an individual person's mental state or motives. Who cares why one individual person is doing what they do. Look to the economic forces, the demands, the resources, the needs not being met, and you will see the logic behind people's behavior. There's no need to legislate away a person thinking the wrong thoughts.
"there should be some kind of test you have to take before having kids" -> wrong, extremely dangerous and highkey eugenicist and racist "the youth should have safe and effective legal pathways at their disposal to make sure their human rights are constantly protected and upheld" -> based, centers the youth, gives minors more power to fight inequality and does not reinforce the idea that parents are immune to scrutiny from their kids
Just a head's up, but I don't give money to people online unless I know them and can verify their stories. There are just too many scammers. Please don't send me anons asking for money.
Thanks, Management
“catra abandoned adora in s5 because she couldn't bear to watch adora die, how tragic and romantic—”
you know what would have been actually tragic and romantic, and also an improvement in catra's arc? if she had offered to take the failsafe to the heart herself.
that would have been a heroic act from her, offering to take adora's place even if it would kill her, because she doesn't want adora to die. she doesn't even have to actually do it and die, just making the suggestion would have been enough.
"it doesn't always have to be you!" okay then, do you have a better idea? are you willing to take adora's place? or are you just gonna stress her out even more and make her feel worthless for trying to do the right thing?
reminds me of the first episode (i think?) in the dragon prince where viren offers king harrow a way out of getting killed by the elves, but instead of offering to take the risk himself, viren tries to convince harrow's soldiers to die in his place.
and harrow rightfully calls him out on it and asks viren if he would be willing to take on the risk himself and die, instead of sacrificing someone else without their consent.
the difference here is that viren, despite being the villain, actually thinks about it and makes up his mind to die in harrow's stead instead. this doesn't happen, of course, but viren was a far less sympathetic character at that point, and he was still a better person than catra.
you ever see shit that makes you think “i know i’m very online but i’m not online enough for this one”
"craving a food means your body needs something that food can offer" now what the fuck does my body need with an ice cream
it makes your brain happy! your body could use some joy too
no everyone shut up and listen. truths were said
in all seriousness, if you're craving ice cream, it's likely that your body needs fat and carbs. If ice cream isn't an option for whatever reason, you can try to feed yourself something else with a significant amount of fat and/or carbs. You may also be dehydrated if you're craving sweets.
That said, sometimes your body and brain do genuinely just need a pick me up.
The more frequently you practice intuitive eating like this, the better you'll get at figuring out what it is that your body is asking for.
Also, a great trick is to take a look at what you're craving, note the nutritional contents (fat, carbs, protein, plant matter/fiber) and try and figure out what else sounds tasty for your particular craving. This can give you more data points to go off of. For instance, if you're craving ice cream, but a sweet roll sounds just as good, it's probably carbs your body is asking you for. That said, if you're craving ice cream and a sweet roll doesn't sound good at all BUT a bagel with strawberry cream cheese or avocado toast DOES sound good, you know it's fat you're needing.
If all you're craving is ice cream and nothing else sounds worth the effort, you may just need a low effort mood boost, which is also totally valid! This can also help you even if you can't have ice cream, because now that you know what your body actually wants, you know there are more ways to fulfill that order than the way it asked you to!

Proof that after hundreds of years of capitalism, the only thing that's "changed" is the name attached to the foot inside the boot firmly placed on the necks of the poor.
This is the exact sort of passive-aggressive Rich Old Man Grumpiness I can get behind
Twitter is about to be banned in Brazil, why?
Have you seen the news about Twitter (now X, but I refuse to call it that) being banned in Brazil? Have you been wondering why that is? I’m Brazilian, and here I am to explain things to you.
You’ve likely noticed that since Elon Musk took over the social media network, hate speech on the platform has skyrocketed. White supremacist and Neo-Nazi groups have been using Twitter to disseminate racist propaganda and hate speech. And although the United States might not be doing anything about this, other countries are not so indulgent. Brazil being one of them.
Racism and incitement of hate (including speech) are crimes in Brazil. So is political disinformation, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. Hate speech of any kind is a CRIME in Brazil.
The Brazilian Supreme Court ordered Elon Musk to do something about the political fake news and hate speech on his platform, and Elon responded by shutting down all offices in Brazil.
The Brazilian Supreme Court (STF) then ordered Elon Musk to appoint a legal representative in Brazil, as NO BUSINESS can operate in the country without a legal representative that can be held responsible to crimes and answer to them in a court of law. The STF gave Elon 24 hours to appoint this legal representative, and now that the deadline has passed and Elon has not complied, it seems that Twitter will be shut down in Brazil.
TL;DR: Elon is salty that he’s not above Brazilian law.
In my opinion, the funniest thing to emerge from this is that Elon used the X Global Government Affairs account to say that Brazilian minister Alexandre de Moraes gave him these orders in “secret”. And no one else other than the OFFICIAL BRAZILIAN SUPREME COURT ACCOUNT responded to this with the ACTUAL FULL LEGAL DOCUMENT LMAOOOOOOO

one of the reasons zionists act like anti zionists are actually antisemites is because they believe we’re just using the word zionist to mean “all Jews” in the manner they mean “all Muslims and Arabs” when they say “terrorists”.
