Renaissance Art: Details of Dreses
Almost a year later the photos of the finished mourning gamurra are here! I used 6 yards of plain black cotton to make this gown - a yard for the bodice and sleeves and 5 yards for the skirt - I had really much fun doing this gown, I hope Iâll have another event for I can wear it again! I also made these two Dominican Monk costumes for my boyfriend and a friend, all in 100% cotton since it was summer, I didnât find any woolen cloth :/
Iâve already finished this project but totally forgot to post about it ! I planned to make a mourning gamurra for a medieval faire in Corsica. Here are the photos that inspired me and helped me to be as close historically as possible. Florentine fashion is beautiful I think so I went for a 1470s style dress.
Burgos Cathedral, Spain.
This has nothing to do with costumes and sewing but I had to share this beauty with you !
My next dress will definitely be a Cranach gown for future reenactments, hopefully in 2016 !
Last month I went to the Tudors exhibition at the MusĂ©e du Luxembourg, in Paris. I had a great time, there were so many beautiful pieces and I could finally see Anne Boleynâs Book of Hours, I canât describe the feeling I had standing in front of it, thinking she once held it in her hands.
Sewing into place a white grosgrain ribbon for more safety during windy reenactments.
Some period fashion plates that inspires me, I wish I could make all of these beautiful gowns...
I found on amazon these beautiful Regency looking shoes, theyâre not real leather but since I am a washerwoman during reenactments these will be fine.
For my first post I wanted to show you a regency day dress I made a few month ago from a beautiful cotton coupon. The drop front has been modified since then, so I will be probably posting new photos.
