My Thrill On Blueberry Hill

This piece was inspired by the song Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino, when I first listened to it I took it as a classic she cheated and went away song but the more I listened a new narrative started to appear in my head. “All of those vows we made/Were neve to be/though we’re apart/You’re part of me still” To me this song is about a lover that died young and we’re hearing their partner cope with their loss by remembering how they first met, on blueberry hill.

I wanted the woman to be wearing clothes similar to a wedding dress, my favorite part was drawing the lace. I also wanted her to stand out so I made her main accent red to contrast the blueberries in the background. She appears ghostly because of her white dress, and almost bloody due to the red lace on her arms and collar. She’s not really there, it’s just a memory of their wedding day, but it really feels like he could just reach and touch her doesn’t it. Maybe he could try, and maybe she’d really be here this time, but her tombstone in the background reminds him of the reality of why he’s here. She’s gone, and though she’ll always be apart of him, he hasn’t accepted it yet. He still thinks she might just appear when he turns a corner or opens the door to their (now only his) first home.

I absolutely hate the style I chose but at least I got to try practicing with other marker styles. I think I made it worse with the additional character but whatever. At least I got to practice my species development

I originally tried to do a seeweed thing (seen in right) for inktober but I hated it and then I got to do fun development based on some of @maescribbles posts of the doodles :D

I’m so glad people like them! Ever since then I’ve been working on this piece, Listener x Yapper is one of my favorite tropes :) and they definitely are.

Just thinking about the other helps them go to sleep during the bad times, which tends to be a lot during 1922 Russia considering Ballet being turned into a Soviet sport and being used to spread propaganda and Russia becoming an Atheist State which forces Janek to hide his identity(he’s Jewish) even more as antisemitism keeps on spreading despite their promises of ending it.

Been seeing a lot of nightmare hcs about Monty after Christmas, which yes 100% agree with. However as a person who actually does have nightmares about whatever I’m the most worried about(specifically people), the nice dreams are the most painful.

Your brain creates new memories that they’ll never get to experience with you. Your dream lets you pretend that they’re still there laughing with you. You get to say sorry, and you get to be forgiven, only to wake up. It’s horrible because it wasn’t. It was so lovely, it was exactly what you wished things were like when they were there and that’s what hurts. Things weren’t ever like that, your brain wants to remember everything so sweetly that it makes up completely new memories.

We don’t know what Monty’s relationships with his siblings or in general family were, but either way I think that the dreams of what was or what could’ve been haunt him more.
