Urjgjtthghth crazy to me that assad researched indian traveller communities to bridge a link to armand's origin in ukraine/crimea i wish they would let the actors write this stuff that is so juicy and satisfying... armand the nomad for real. constantly othered, foreign to every land, never at home, never still, always code switching. exoticised, dangerous, kind of roguish the way he appeared in paris. possibilities endless

I do have a fondness for how gothic and erotic lit had a certain barrier to entry. Like I do love more ppl getting into the vampire chronicles and I'll always be happy to have more Loustat fans but those books are weird and melancholic and erotic and philosophical and constantly testing boundaries and asking questions. And it feels like ppl are expecting or wanting "the vampire diaries but gay". The books have uncomfortable moments and the characters will do and say and believe things that make you double take but so much of the books are just "how moral can I be when nothing matters and I'm immortal?"

This isn't just a tale of gay vampires. It's a haunting philosophical treatise about life, mortality, morality, death, depression, incest, rape, love, regret, and the Pain Of Time. It can be fun and it can be gross and it can be wonderful but it's not for the timid.

by the way for all the Armand and Claudia parallel enjoyers, in iwtv Louis himself describes how Armand reminds him of Claudia, and he only realizes this in the exact moment they are breaking up. when Armand has a look on his face that’s so helpless and lost that louis suddenly sees claudia in him. the “same attitude”, the desperation of an eternal child pleading to be cared for. just so you know.

I'm still hung up on the fact that showstat dropped Louis out of the sky. Like right then and there the tone went bad and so corny and lacking in nuance for me. Lestat was sadistic and sharp tongued, abusive and controlling in his way but it was through possessiveness and withholding of information, it is so against the grain of his character to enact violence on a loved one who cannot overpower him. If anyone is capable of that it would be Armand. And since when is domestic violence a one time event, that is always a pattern of behaviour commited against various partners that will escalate over time. It kind of makes him fundamentally unforgivable rather than just monstrous in the Anne Rice way. So not Lestat. All the abuse is so gratuitous esp when it comes to the women and its icky.
