I mean…

Raine didn’t end their relationship because they wanted to. It was a hard decision. It wasn’t easy telling the love of their life they were joining a coven (which Eda was staunchly against) and ending their relationship. It needed to be done.

Raine knew about the curse. Raine knew why Eda was emotionally distant. They understood. They also understood Eda wasn’t at a place emotionally/mentally to open up to them completely as a partner should. That wasn’t fair to either of them. So Raine did the responsible (hard, heartbreaking af) thing and set them both free.

Mind you, Raine and Eda knew each other since their freshmen year at Hexside at latest. For all we know, they were friends even longer than that, so there’s a substantial amount of history shared.

Can you imagine what went through Raine’s head when they realized Eda had children? I can only think they were struck by the realization in the years following their breakup Eda allowed herself to love someone freely in spite of the fear she had of herself and the curse hurting someone else. That Eda allowed someone to love her completely in return? They realized in that instant Eda had grown and gave herself what they always wanted for her, to love herself, to love others happily and to receive the love in return. There Eda was…about to give that up because she didn’t feel as if she was enough for them.

Raine put an end to that. Raine wasn’t going to let Eda waste her character development on a sacrifice that’d cause pain to the people who love her because they knew exactly what that felt like. Because Eda did the same to them all those years ago…

(Gonna add King was the game changer for Eda. I mean she took him in, raised him and loves him with every fiber of her being. He was the start.)
