as a regular donor to Gaza Soup Kitchen I get their email updates, and they said today that while they've continued to be able to expand, donations are slowing down as Gaza gets less coverage. If you have a few dollars to spare, I encourage you to send them here to continue the amazing work that Hani and his team are doing.
if I see one more "why age verification is bad" post that doesn't even bother to mention that locking young people out of huge sections of the public sphere - literally the stated goal and primary impact of this shit - is wrong in and of itself I will simply start hitting people with bricks
yes yes biometric data privacy blah blah adults can hypothetically by harmed by this too. what about the immediate and deliberate and not at all hypothetical harm to youth. why are you acting like a potential data leak about what your face looks like, which if it ever happened would at least be generally recognised as a problem, is a more serious issue than cutting millions of people off from information and community and public expression which is happening right now in the open with large scale support
it's got the stench of fucking "banned books week" on it. thousands of adults congratulating themselves for reading books literally no one is trying to stop them from reading while doing nothing to improve access for the young people who are the ones actually having those books made off-limits to them.
[normal person voice] as we all know, the public sphere consists largely of strip clubs and pools of glowing green acid

I still reference this post today. And yes, when I say I reference it I mean I sing it.
Really hate that most people donât understand the difference between âself-expressionâ and âartistic-expression.â
I say this as someone who sells pottery, and many people who see my art assume I am using art as an outlet to âexpress myself.â
I am not.
I use art to challenge myself. A lot of what I do is the equivalent of doing a hard sudoko or a half marathon, answering the question of âcan I do this?â
I use art to question things and explore ideas. Finding physical synthesis between concepts and working out a design to its end state.
I use art to make money. I make some things just because I suspect theyâll sell well, and I keep making them when they do.
This idea that an artist is âputting themselves out thereâ every time they create is not only stupid, but harmful, and it kills critique and analysis.
Yes every creative work is influenced by its creator, but the most preliminary step of analysis is to define the purpose of a work of art (functional, narrative, entertainment, persuasive, decorative, ceremonial, etc.) and a vanishingly small percentage of that is self-expression. Even then, itâs generally tied to the selfâs relationship with something elseâperception, society, etc.
Itâs very tiresome to have people assume they know you because they like (or dislike) your art, to make assumptions about who you are and how you approach the world. Itâs nothing newâ people called the Impressionists insane and the Fauvists degenerate. And now people are expected to hand out their identities and traumas to prove they have the right to explore certain subjects.
But to actually understand art, you have to contextualize it beyond assuming itâs just what the artist felt like making at the moment and itâs somehow coming from their deepest soul, or youâll badly misinterpret most art you come across.
Please don't ignore my message. It may be my family's only chance.
My name is Ameera, and I am a mother from Gaza.
Before the war, I had dreams like everyone else. I wanted to finish my education, build a peaceful home with my husband, and give our daughter a beautiful future.
Instead, the war took everything.
Our home was destroyed. My husband was injured. We lost our safety, our stability, and the life we spent years dreaming about. Every day has become a struggle to find the basics our little daughter needs.
I am not asking for luxury. I am asking for a chance to survive.
I cannot create a donation campaign by myself, and that is why I am reaching out to you. If you know how to create a trusted fundraising page, or if you are willing to sponsor one for my family, please contact me.
You may be the only person who sees this message and has the ability to change our lives.
Please don't keep scrolling.
If you cannot help us directly, please share our story. One share can reach someone who can.
Every moment matters. Every act of kindness matters. Every person who stands with us gives my family another reason to keep hoping.
Thank you for seeing us. Thank you for giving my daughter a chance at a future.

Israelâs Ministry of National Security, headed by far right politician Itamar Ben Gvir, is set to transfer four million shekels ($1.31m) to a sanctioned group which supports illegal settler outposts in the occupied West Bank, Israeli media is reporting.
Ahavat Gilad ("Love of Gilad") was among six firms sanctioned by France, the UK, Canada, Norway, Australia and New Zealand in June, after it was revealed that it had been involved in facilitating and financing a spike in settler violence across the West Bank.
Ahavat Gilad was sanctioned after it was found that it transferred donations raised by the Farms Union, which provides financial and organisational support to settler farms, directly to illegal outposts.
Haaretz reported, citing documents submitted by the Ministry of National Security, that the money is intended to âreduce incidents of violence" and to "establish a network of mentors to accompany youth staying on farms throughout Judea and Samaria".
The sum will be paid out over the course of a year and a half, with the possibility of an extension.
The move comes after the government approved a ânational planâ in May to address what it described as a ânegative phenomenon among youthâ in the occupied West Bank, amid a surge in settler attacks on Palestinians.
I love getting unaccompanied minors (kids flying alone) who so clearly just. Don't want to be here lol. Sometimes I get to know a little of their story, like their parents are divorced, or a family member died and they're heading to the funeral, but usually they just don't want to talk about it and that's fine. But I always treat the flight like it's a challenge to make them smile. I offer them snacks and soda but that's never enough, that's whatever, they could get those from an airport vending machine. Chump change. So then I tell the worst jokes. Just the most embarrassing, kindergarten teacher, annoying dad jokes you can think of. And those always get a groan, or a "Seriously??" And that's my in! Now I can say "Why, what's your idea of a good joke? No, come on hotshot, make your best joke, let's see it." And they hem and they haw but of course they eventually tell me their very best joke because kids are little competitive comedy goldmines. And it's always super funny, so I laugh, and that's where they slip up. Because you know what you almost always do when your joke successfully makes someone laugh? You smile. And I'm like. Gotcha. Rookie move. Now you're going to end up having a good time in spite of yourself. I win.
Did this with an 11yo u.m. today and he said "What did the ghost say to the other ghost?" And I said "What?" "Nothing. Ghosts aren't real."
I'm literally a flight attendant, offering snacks and drinks is my job
That âcomment on your a03 workâ email hits like a line of cocaine every time. unmatched dopamine increase. shoutout to everyone who leaves a comment on fics. you deserve the world
I only hate certain types of fic the same way I hate mosquitos and ticks. Like get these nasty little buggers away from me but also I respect their place in the ecosystem.
Me, spraying bug spray: blocked.
Listen and sometimes? To enjoy running through a beautiful field of grass and flowers (ao3) you have to tolerate the fact that bugs (fics you donât like) are there and maybe you will even encounter one, but you can use bugspray (filtered tags) to reduce the likelihood of that. Because the alternative is not getting to experience the beautiful field of grass and flowers.
And some of my mutuals happen to be entomologists. Which is also cool.
my tumblr ads are alternating between reminding me iâm a dyke and telling me to fear the space scorpion
If my page suddenly stops posting one day, know that my baby Qais has died. I will never forget the people who saw my child bleeding, suffering, and begging for help, yet chose silence and continued scrolling.
If this is my mother's last day... I hope silence is not the last thing she receives.
Every passing minute brings me closer to the greatest fear of my life: losing my mother while knowing her treatment could have been possible if we had managed to pay for it in time.
Today is the final deadline, and we are still $700 short of covering the cost of her treatment.
There are no words that can describe what it feels like to watch your mother suffer while the clock keeps moving and all you can do is beg strangers for help.
If you can donate, please don't wait. Even the smallest contribution brings us closer to saving her. If you can't, please share this post. It could reach the one person who gives my mother another chance to live.
Please... don't let $700 be the reason I lose my mother. Help her before it's too late.

me as a teenager: man it sucks to have no privacy or autonomy but i guess its for a good reason. when i turn 18 i will realise how young i was and understand why they did all that.
me as an adult: teenagers are an oppressed class, their abuse is normalised and systemic and they need to start killing people
