Warning Hot Chocolate
One of the first comments that I read on Blue Sky was that no one was offering any push back on the transphobia of the #4BMovement, and that most people were jumping on the band wagon without examining the implications. I agree that everyone should think critically about what they support. I have thought about it, and I am willing to share my conclusions and the thought process that led there.
I will be doing a series of Threads called #WarningHotChocolate to address some of the common concerns I see brought up about the #4B Movement. I intend to engage in the comments as much as I can. If a comment has already been addressed, or will be addressed later in the series, I will reply to that comment saying so. I imagine a lot of people will have similar questions and concerns.
Part of protecting my peace is blocking very aggressive accounts. However, for the sake of getting this information out there, I will not block until #WarningHotChocolate is completed.
For anyone following me for warm and safe fuzzies, I have marked these threads clearly so they are easy to find and easy to skip.
Abigail Part 1
It was a crisp autumn day. The Sub was shining, but the world had never looked so bleak. Abigail was on her way home from her last class of the day. She had decided to drop by her favorite coffee shop on the way home. Just to grab a coffee, she told herself, knowing full-well that she would likely linger and do some writing as well.
Only today, when she walked into the rustic minimalist coffee shop, she didn't feel her usual sense of relief. The Mountain Grind was the most popular coffee shop downtown, so it was unsurprising that it was crowded, but the vibe was... off. She couldn't be sure, but it seemed that there were more locals here than college students. Many of the costumers were bearded white men, laughing and grinning as though they'd won the Super Bowl. It was such a sharp contrast to the devastation and despondence that she and her classmates had been feeling since the election. She had a sinking feeling about whom they had voted for. A few of these new patrons looked her way, and she shrank, instinctively making herself a smaller target as she lingered by the door.
Becky, the waitress she was most familiar with, flashed her a sympathetic smile from across the crowded shop.
"Your Body, My Choice!" one of the nameless men hooted over the laughter and clinking dishes.
That did it.
Flushed red with embarrassment, Abigail dated out of the cafe. She no longer felt safe there.
Tip of the Day: How to Center Yourself In Clothing
1. Do I like the way that I look in this?
2. Do I like the way that this feels on me? (Physical)
3. Do I like the way that wearing this makes me feel? (Emotional)
If the answer to these questions are all yes, congratulations!
You did it!
