i'm getting the sense some of you are not actually forklift certified.
well damn . egg on my face
THE PLOT THICKENS @averagejoey2000 explain yourself
I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.
29 CFR 1910.178 (l)(2)(ii)
but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.

Me: comfy mom jeans, laundry done, dinner prepped, cozy with a romance novel
Friend: I saw this on social media, it seemed very you
The link: { a cross dresser, drag performer, or post about gay men }
Me: ... 😑😮💨
I know it's a huge privledge to have such a normal life that I don't experience homophobia or transphobia on the daily. It's also a huge privledge to have such supportive friends and family. But – that makes it all the more weirdly jarring when my reminder of harmful trans stereotypes comes from a friend or family member. I know it's generally not intended to be enforcing a stereotype. Sometimes it really is just a coincidence, like "oh, I didn't send this to you for the drag, I didn't realize it was drag. I sent it to you for the rock climbing!"
I'm not personally a fan of drag, cross dressing, or gay men. No judgement! I have friends that do/are each, but these things have never been my thing. Prior to 2021 I never had anyone approaching me about these topics or sharing it to me saying it made them "think of me". Now it happens like once a month. My relationship to each has pretty much not changed in the slightest, like, I'm still exactly the same person. But for some reason, now, a whole bunch of people associate me with it. People who knew me before 2022.
If this is you, don't worry, I know you didn't mean anything by it. We've probably talked about it – I've been trying to get better about politely mentioning it when I think it's happening. But like. Next time you see a social media post and think "I should send @cparen this cross dressing thing", maybe work on what internal thing made you associate such a topic with me. It might be the homophobic and transphobic society we both grew up on. I'm working on deconstructing those biases too.
I love you, friend. Thanks for listening!
Just need a look under the hood.

GLaDOS voice: "Would you like to see some artwork I generated? I've heard from other test subjects that AI-generated artwork produces an uncanny valley response in human viewers because they can't perceive it as fully real. They've told me that it looks absolutely hideous to them, that they can't imagine anything more disgusting than AI art. But, well I've been practicing and wanted your honest opinion. Feel free to let me know how ugly you find this by ranking it on a scale from 'vomit-inducing' to 'eye-bleeding'." A robotic arm lowers from the ceiling holding a hand mirror up to Chell's face

THIS IS OUR RADIUM. you're absolutely right
How it feels to use any tool, app, or website right now
Worse, it's our asbestos. It's being put into things we're going to have to keep using long after everyone has to finally accept it was a bad idea, in such a way it will be almost impossible to remove.
Radium suppositories and asbestos might both be in museums but the radium's in the exhibits, the asbestos is in the walls.

I get the feeling that cis women aren’t reminded that they’re “choosing” womanhood when they complain about how the patriarchy sexualizes and demeans it
“Teachers are often unaware of the gender distribution of talk in their classrooms. They usually consider that they give equal amounts of attention to girls and boys, and it is only when they make a tape recording that they realize that boys are dominating the interactions. Dale Spender, an Australian feminist who has been a strong advocate of female rights in this area, noted that teachers who tried to restore the balance by deliberately ‘favouring’ the girls were astounded to find that despite their efforts they continued to devote more time to the boys in their classrooms. Another study reported that a male science teacher who managed to create an atmosphere in which girls and boys contributed more equally to discussion felt that he was devoting 90 per cent of his attention to the girls. And so did his male pupils. They complained vociferously that the girls were getting too much talking time. In other public contexts, too, such as seminars and debates, when women and men are deliberately given an equal amount of the highly valued talking time, there is often a perception that they are getting more than their fair share. Dale Spender explains this as follows: “The talkativeness of women has been gauged in comparison not with men but with silence. Women have not been judged on the grounds of whether they talk more than men, but of whether they talk more than silent women.” In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts.”

Every EVERY women’s studies class I’ve been in has had this problem and failed to address it.

so you're telling me the fifa world cup is all men? its all men's teams? and so is the superbowl? and all the sports teams that states are known for and make copious amounts of merch for are also men's teams? and only 5 women have ever entered formula one since its inception in 1950 and only two of them were able to compete? and this is normal? its acceptable?

Just Jewish Things: seeing people refer to something they obsess over as "my roman empire" for literal years before you realize they mean it in the sense of "autistic special interest that they love learning and talking about"
and not, like, "a thing which no longer exists but nevertheless holds a place in my mind akin to the one Moby Dick does for Captain Ahab, an obsession I constantly wonder about what life would be like without and which I blame for three quarters of my problems"
Wait that's not what it means?????
