my friend just told me that there's a secret second dashboard that solely contains posts from people you've turned on post notifications for, and when i click the link in the messages it opens it within the tumblr app, so the tumblr app also has a secret second dashboard for post notification blogs, and the only way to access it is to open the link for it within the app.
i literally love tumblr
i have a private pinned post that just has a link to this dashboard on it, it's great. two dashboards for life
wow! i was really hoping someone would organically reverse-engineer this and find that dash.
here are a few other "secret" dashboards:
Posts from your "crushes"
"What you missed" (will be empty if you already visit Tumblr every day)
"Trending"
these are all just taking existing feeds of content and putting them in a dashboard-like format... the "Stuff for you" tab/feed is the same idea.
ⓘ Tip If you feel unfulfilled by how you spent your time today, you can stay up late to try to combat the sense of dissatisfaction. This will ensure that you feel even worse tomorrow.
lately ive been answering spam calls and telling them im gonna kill myself
spammers hate this one easy trick

Clueless white guy SHOCKS civil war reenactment enthusiasts by shooting his gun in perfect Chinese
perks of being big and tall: - can reach every shelf no problem - moving through crowds is a breeze - can carry all the groceries in one go
cons of being big and tall - i will never be able to buy shoes in person because most stores do not stock boat-sized shoes for my massive feet
I know it's not a fair comparison due to differences in memory management, but it's still crazy how Linux Mint uses half the RAM Windows does on idle, and CachyOS uses half of that.
i recently helped a friend with their windows computer, and noticed it used 4 gigabytes at idle.
compare that to my linux box, wjich draws a whooping 105 megabytes at idle.
no wonder everything runs smoother when your computer isnt doing busywork.
thats at least a few thousand calories right there!

I feel like it was pretty well advertised when it switched from captcha to recaptcha that the point was to do something useful with all the effort that's wasted on them. I guess eventually it just became a background thing and less tech savvy people didn't know. But it wasn't really a secret that this is what was being done.
I could have sworn this was common knowledge for like a decade
the fact that "check the boxes containing cars" translates to "help us train the algorithm to detect cars" has been known for ages.
why would they choose cars and bikes otherwise? it's not some esoteric thing only humans can see, it's just a bit harder than reading letters at weird angles.
i hate big tech as much as the next gal/guy/goblin, but this was not some great conspiracy to be revealed. it was pretty obvious when you put some thought into it.
this also highlights why some basic tech literacy is a required skill at this point in time. knowing how something works instead of going "it just works" helps you avoid pitfalls like this.
everyone enjoying the very warm summer for the third year in a row: yay we love the heat it's so nice not having to fly to somewhere sunny for vacation
me, suffering in the scorching sun, remembering the looming climate apocalypse:
Alright I don't know how to say this but the clone of you that I keep in a white room to study your natural behavior so I can better act like a normal person around you just cured cancer.
God I fucking hate summer if you like summer happy for you but oh my fucking god this sucks
Give me winter back
actually no I take it back I'm NOT fucking happy for you because you bitches never shut the fuck up in winter
at least we know there's animosity about our preferences meanwhile you're over here like oooo but cold :(
my skin is fucking melting how about you put on another jacket or some shit HUH

[ID 1. A post by molabuddy: its kind of fun to uninstall programs you arent using to free up space and see them beg for their lives
ID 2. A post by werewolf-girlfriend: i rly like how many electronic devices you can turn off by holding the power button down. its very intuitive to kill a thing by choking it
ID 2. A post by leonkennedysprostate: "don't assign human morality to non human things" is so true except when it comes to printers. they know what they are, they understand dilemmas and ethics and morality. they choose to be how they are, they choose to be evil, at their very core they are rotten /end ID.] (Next id in ALT)

Daily affirmations:
What is this place?
What manner of creature are you?
What sorcery is this?
who goes there?
who sent you?
who dares disturb my slumber?
What is that beautiful house?
Where does that highway go to?
Am I right?
Am I wrong?
My God! What have I done?
