dave leans back, the quiet surrounding him with a sense of peace rather than bone-biting despair. he knows he can’t quite breathe – not yet, anyway – but his chest feels a little less constricted, like a weight has been lifted. the universe’s not yet done with wanting things from him, but it feels like it’s given a little something back.
