Some people have "fuck you" money. You know, that amount you have in the bank where you can look at someone, say "fuck you, I quit" or "fuck you, I'm leaving" or anything like that.
This has now taught me that some people have "fuck you" time. and I could not be any happier with this knowledge.
The secret to developing Fuck You Time is developing Fuck You Skills. In the above example, the gentleman had the Fuck You Skills of
1. Being able to track down the superintendent's doctoral thesis 2. How to check it for plagiarism 3. How to notify the relevant people of this fraud without sounding like a crank.
Since he has these skills, it does not take him MUCH time to preform the Fuck You. Hence, his Fuck You time might be only a few hours a week, but because he's so effecient at the Fuck You, that's all he needs.

The Corporation is fundamentally stupid. They created SecUnits with free will, then installed a punishment module to force them to obey. Imagine how fearsome SecUnits would be if the Corporation instead installed pleasure units to reward them for obeying.
Everyone wants to hurt SecUnits or make them fight each other for entertainment. Did it occur to nobody to do the obvious? Teach them to play sports. What’s more fun: yet another punch-up, or watching twelve superhuman athletes play basketball?
ok my theory is now recreational sports have been de facto banned in the corporation rim for interfering with productivity. if you're going to injure yourself you're going to do it mining or some other monetized shit not for fun
(sports come up briefly in system collapse but a) MB doesn't seem super familiar b) it's been living in Preservation space long enough that it could know from there. and yeah it's the former CR colonists who have a gym but they've been former for decades?)
At one point MB says one of its jobs was politely stopping people from playing certain sports that the Corporation had forbidden because of the risk of damage. So sports are a thing outside Corporation job sites. You’d think the Corporation would encourage sports as a cheaper stress release than drinking or tormenting SecUnits, but that’s not how it thinks.
I hadn’t noticed the lack of mention of sports in the entertainment feed, but that may be because MB isn’t interested. It does rather leave vast swathes of human culture out of the story because it doesn’t care.

Mmmmm a mtas fic where Logan writes the builder anonymous letters with tips on how to handle certain monsters when he sees her struggling and, knowing the crucial role she is apparently playing in saving Sandrock, wants her to succeed.
Waiting to see how Logan anonymizes his letters. Does he use his natural writing style and accidentally get Elsie in trouble with the Builder? Try writing in someone else’s style (badly) and get Ernest in trouble? Make Haru do it and completely mystify the Builder, who has no idea what Haru’s speech pattern sounds like?

My Time At Sandrock is a fantastic sim game where you play as a twink who builds stuff and ends up dating either an autistic dude who likes rocks, an autistic mute doctor, an autistic science guy, or a cowboy.

I explained a little about my throwing-rock only run of MTaS to my sister. She brought up a very good point that still makes me laugh.
Sis: So... You still plan to marry Logan in this run?
Me: Probably, yeah. Why? I like his events, and Andy's adorable. marry the man for the kid- go figure. It's me.
Sis: ... Don't you... Don't you have to fight him? For a mission or something?
Me: Yeah, rescuing Matilda from Logan. Why?
Sis: You're going to be doing that with rocks, yeah?
Me: ... Yea- oh.
Sis: And it's a reverse proposal, too. You bully a man into submission via the power of a throwing stone, and he eventually decides "Yeah, this is the gal for me". What the fuck.
Me: I mean... I think it's pretty canon that Haru's the brain of the two? Logan's not stupid by any stretch of the word, but... rash sometimes overtakes common sense.
Sis: He apparently appreciates the kind of guff it takes for some wet-behind-the-ears city slicker to face down some desert outlaw with a gun using nothing but the power of rocks. No other option, you pelted a hole right into his heart.
Me: A weapon so absurd for an adult to use that Logan can't help but think about it for weeks after. It's stuck in his head like a broken record. What kind of messed up freak does it take to get someone who will face down a bandit armed to the teeth and decide 'yeah, good old rocks from the ground will suffice against daggers and bullets'.
Reposting this because more people need to know that someone is trying to beat the game with THROWING ROCKS
A bit of an update on my first datamining post, specifically about the family pictures: It seems like with the new update, when you marry certain NPCs, you can get their family photos added to your album as well. That means you can hang them up in your house, which is so sweet. <3
And having them in the album now means we can get high quality versions of these photos!
Below, in order, are the family photos of: Amirah (not sure if you also get it with Arvio), Catori, Elsie, Fang, Heidi, Logan, Owen, and Qi. All the filenames are in the format "Photo_Marriage_<NPC>_<photo #>".

“Absolutely. It has nothing to do with your hot dad.”

We really should be able to get Logan do community service. He gets punished but doesn't go to jail, law is upheld, and he's rejoining the society and Doing Stuff. Win-win scenario.
But it has to stay in my head-canons for my Builder bringing the idea up. Sad.
Logan scrubbing pots for Owen, holding Vivi’s yarn so she can wind it, hauling around buckets of fertilizer for Zeke, competing with Fang to sweep the graves on Sunday… Fang shakes his head when Logan asks him for work, but X steps up and sends Logan scurrying all over the desert looking for shinies.
At Unsuur’s request, he dusts rocks. Outdoor rocks. Rocks that are on the ground, in the dust. Logan doesn’t understand it, but it’s what Unsuur wants, so Logan does it. Afterward Unsuur is so pleased that Logan goes away baffled, but satisfied.
The Builder asks him to do some stuff. Very specific stuff. Lots of very specific stuff. What she lacks in raisin’ she makes up in imagination. Logan deflects politely but takes mental notes. She eventually accepts a day of him doing chores in her workshop, and Logan goes away simultaneously satisfied, unsatisfied, and wishing he didn’t have quite so strong a sense of duty.
Fucks per page in The Murderbot Diaries, with the correct numbers this time. Looks like in a couple books we could be seeing an average of slightly more than 1 fuck every 3 pages.

The new book needs to be added in, because the number of fucks did, in fact, increase significantly. There are 94 fucks or fuck variants in 245 pages (on the Kindle), or 0.4 fucks per page—above the projected number, if the graph uses Kindle page counts.
If MB continues to be unable to express affection except through mutual harassment and swearing, the next book really is going to be nothing but fucks and media references.

That raises an interesting question: If (when) Murderbot joins ART’s crew, and someone inevitably is mean or rude to MB, and MB inevitably is its prickly bitchy self back… which side does ART threaten?
(I jest. ART threatens them both, of course.)
We now know the answer, which is: ART does whatever pisses Murderbot off the most entertainingly.
