It's honestly bad, when I first read last week's chapter I actually kind of enjoyed it, it was different from the novel (sure), but at least it doesn't feel too rushed and we get to see a glimpse of Suho's life via him going to his parents'grave.
Another good point is that we got to see how the barony coped without Suho, it's nice to see how they learn and grow even with his absence.

Don't let the "heart-warming" scene fool you, they are the worst kind of parents, they abandoned and left Suho to fend for himself with the additional burden of their debt. This feels so unjustified they don't deserve to be seen as good, they are not.
Also the system is a jerk, wth.

Speaking of parents, WHAT THE HECK!? The count is literally on his knees crying, he can't even rest properly cause he grieves for his SON, no, THEIR SON and the countess still asks why he looks PALE!? HELLO!? YOUR SON IS MISSING AND MOST LIKELY DEAD AND YOU DON'T GIVE A SINGLE THOUGHT ABOUT IT!? She even said that she dreams about them every night like HUH!? YOU DREAM ABOUT THEM AND SOMEHOW YOU LOOKED SO RESTED?? WHERE'S THE TEARS???

The day he wakes up is supposed to be the same day of the incident (the construction incident that motivates him to become a responsible leader). So TELL ME, WHY DID THEY ERASE SUCH AN IMPORTANT PLOT POINT!? WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT GUY!? SUHO JUST FORGETS!?
- Suho is RICH
NAH AH, SUHO IS ON HIS WITS END, HE IS BRILLIANT BUT HIS SITUATION MADE HIS LIFE A LIVING HELL. SUHO BEING RICH JUST SERVE 0 NARRATIVE PURPOSE!! His sacrifice is discounted by that fact, him wanting to stay in Lorasia is mostly due to the need to survive, he can't survive in Korea anymore, he is behind in rent, he can barely afford food, his pay is most likely not coming due to rampant corruption, etc etc ...
But now he is RICH!? What's the point then!? He is now thriving in Korea, he doesn't NEED to go back, he isn't desperate, it's a WANT and it honestly cheapens everything.
(tho i kinda get it, webtoon must have forced them to change the narrative or smth cause it's too depressing bad message and stuff, oof)

twitter is currently full of people shaming fics and it's actually frustrating me so much because. imagine you're walking through an area and you come across an interesting building. you decide to walk in completely of your own volition. and inside there is someone else. they work There but they don't work For You and actually. actually. it can't be called work at all because they're not getting paid. now imagine you don't ask for any food but that person is already making something for themselves and they decide to make some for you too. they give you the food. and then they leave.
that's it. that's the entire interaction.
you take a bite of the food. whether or not you like it is outside of anyone's control. but here's the thing: the person who made the food isn't standing over you and demanding that you finish the scraps. if you don't like the food then all you have to do is leave. maybe it's the tomatoes, the sauce, the lettuce; it doesn't matter because if you don't want it then you Don't Have To Have It. and the person who made it will never know because you are not the first person to come inside this building and you will not be the last. there is going to be someone who will come inside and take their own taste and love it so much they eat their own share and then eat the food you left behind because they want more.
and it's. it's that easy.
yeah, fanfics aren't always going to compete for the world's best prose or what-the-hell-ever. but someone still made this for themselves with so much love and they decided to SHARE IT because they think other people might want that love too. my mother never worked as a professional chef but i love the dinner she makes all the same. it doesn't have to be some intricate masterpiece. if you don't like it then you can walk out. you can hit the back button.
to call fanfic "fast-food" or boil it down to "kpop omegaverse" is to make the choice to stand up, find the person who made you a bowl of soup full of love and care and tenderness and time, and yell that it tastes awful and they need to try harder.
so yeah, it IS pretentious to try and put "real books" above fanfiction when you're doing it insultingly. sure, there are good things to be gathered from classic literature. but there are things that can be collected from fanfiction, too. the two mediums can coexist as separate forms of writing. they don't need to be compared. a fancy steak dinner might impress my taste buds but a bowl of chicken noodle soup will warm me inside and out.
people who enjoy fanfiction are finding love in the nooks and crannies they enjoy being curled up in. conversely, people who enjoy published literature are finding love in new and exciting places. neither version of finding happiness is intellectually or morally higher than the other

there's a reason i've been here since 2022, these idiots drove me insane and i'm barely recovering from it! i have so many posts where i break down exactly why i think the ending of tged is Not Great so i won't bore you with it again, but believe me i've gone off the deep end about it more times that i want to admit.
it will never not rub me the wrong way that if either of them was a girl, there would be absolutely no doubt at all that they were in love with each other. hell, even by the in-universe requirements to marry lloyd, javier is the person who best fits the bill in the entire world. the only reason they don't end up together is because they're both guys and it's so fucking obvious it's a little maddening.
that being said.
i think their relationship in canon is incredibly compelling even if we leave aside romance. they love each other so much and there's literally no way to deny it because the devotion they have for each other is the backbone of the plot. without their relationship there's simply no novel.
they are each other's most important person in the whole wide world. they wanted to spend the rest of their lives at each other's side and if they couldn't then they gladly offered their life so the other could survive.
and spoilers for cpsm but they are so enmeshed with each other that not even death could really keep them apart.
i'm at a point where i genuinely think that adding romance to their relationship would just be like... the cherry on top, y'know?? what they have is already so fucking good, making them kiss wouldn't be so much an improvement as a nice add-on. good to have but not indispensable.
if anything i'm more mad at the fact bk moon insisted on giving lloyd an underdeveloped, rushed and unnecessary romance that took him away from his home, instead of letting him enjoy the life he worked so hard to have with his family. i'm upset that he seemed to think lloyd couldn't have a happy ending unless he was married to a woman, no matter how little sense it made for his arc and how little he seems to want that.

There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.
The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.
Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.
I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.
I still vividly remember the reviews and comments from the only fic I ever posted when I was like 16/17. PotC:CotBP had JUST left the theaters (I was obsessed), and my sentence/prose structure was iffy as hell (it hasn’t improved much, if I’m honest).
I loved seeing how people reacted.
Of course, I also still remember the remark that killed it all stone dead “*sigh* Another Mary Sue.” I haven’t posted anything I’ve written since then, over 20 years later.
Comments/reviews can be great. But, be gentle in your criticisms, some of these writers are young and finding themselves, their voice. And shit like that can break a spirit.
I got a comment in the mail today on one of my long multi-chapter fics. And that person liked it enough that it made me think I should go through my notes and see if I have anything more to write in that story.
Being appreciative of the stuff you like, helps generate more of what you like!!
You should write the most niche, indulgent fiction that appeals to you specifically, because it will be much more artistically authentic and valuable than corporate slop that has been focus tested to death to appeal to the widest audience possible.
Write for yourself and you will always be making authentic art that has an uncompromised vision, and you will gain an audience that appreciates that.
no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.
fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.
To help anon too with the differences in the manhwa I think Suho's friend shows up a lot, also the Frontera parents had an inkling about how Lloyd isn't their Lloyd, only when Lloyd used the Jewel of Truth and from the letter while in the manhwa the parets confronted Javier. Also, in the manhwa Javier kept using Suho for Lloyd while in the novel he uses Lloyd even if he found out he is Suho, the angels and king of hell aren't old men in the novel.

and yeah, another major difference is that secrets are very lightly kept in the manhwa tbh... like you said, javier basically never calls suho lloyd in the novel, and that's because he willingly goes with lloyd's keeping his identity a secret even though he knows the truth-
really, a large part of the novel was them playing a tense game of cat and mouse with lloyd's identity- whereas in the manhwa, it was revealed just. so easily and he's practically just suho for the rest of time now.. zero suspense.
