This is how I think the BatBurger place trains their employees for dealing with the Batfam.
Mark, the manager: Okay. So. We do pride ourselves on being the establishment of choice for the vigilantes of Gotham.
That means you will be serving the Bats. And there are a couple ground rules.
Now. Unfortunately this has happened enough times that it is a rule. Do not flirt with Nightwing. I know he starts it, he's joking, don't finish it. That's just an HR demand waiting to happen. And I will fire you.
Second. If Red Hood comes, don't ask him if he wants his fries jokerized. Just do it. He does want them jokerized but don't mention it.
Uhh, fair warning, the middle one will stalk you. Just for a bit. It's normal I think, he's just doing a background check. That's my bad, apparently I hired a 'Shadow' once, whatever the fuck that means.
The yellow one and the purple one, are cool. Yellow comes mostly during the day, so you don't have to worry. And if Purple drops any glitter just sweep after she leaves.
The one that looks like Batman but gender-bend is cool too, but you're not allowed to say 'yes' if she offers teaching you self defense. That's an order from Corporate.
Do not. âListen to meâ Do. Not. Serve the little one meat. I don't care if you're tired. I don't care if there aren't any veggie options left. You don't serve him meat. He's a vegetarian, last guy to get it mixed up is the reason why we have a job opening, got it?
And lastly. If ANY of them is actively bleeding or looks worse for wear, you press this button and don't say anything. It sends Batman a message and he pays us extra if we let him know his kids are hurt.
Mark, the manager: Any questions?
I can't help but imagine BatBurger in the next Robert Pattinson Batman movie.
Bruce Wayne goes inside, sees the Riddle-me-Fish meal deal, and just stares into the void.
I'm a very big fan of the âone of the ways Batman fights crime is by making the bad guys afraid he could be anywhereâ. The âheâs not in every shadow, but he could be in any shadowâ thing.
I think it would be fun to mix that with the way the rest of the batfam is drawn when they're in shadows:
the glowy eyes and splashes of vibrant colour, especially with Nightwing's symbol looking like it's actually reflective.
So now I'm thinking:
imagine if Gothamites realized that dangerous people get really uneasy when they keep seeing things that, out of the corner of their eye, might look like a vigilante. To the point that they avoid areas where, let's say, an old poster on the wall is just that shade of yellow that keeps jumpscaring them every time they turn. Or that old trash can that still has a patch of green paint that hasn't peeled away yet. Not even realizing what makes them nervous, just knowing that a particular place makes them jumpy. Stuff like that.
So to keep themselves a little safer Gothamites just start⊠adding little things like that in their neighborhoods. Nothing that outright references the Bats - stuff like that might get vandalised or just lose the effect if it's recognised, but things like:
- plants on window sills in flower pots or vases in bright colors
- little shiny trinkets in the windows that just might be mistaken for a flash of a utility belt
- colorful curtains get very popular for children's bedrooms
- someone sticking a piece of blue reflective vinyl on a chimney visible from the street, so that as you walk you see a little flash of electric blue when the light from streetlights hits it just right
- people painting a pair of dots with glow-in-the-dark white paint high up on walls by fire escapes or in dark alleys, that look like glowing eyes
So basically I want Gothamites to invent protective charms and amulets which have exactly zero supernatural properties and arenât intended to have any, but still very much work lmao
When people argue that food from Chinese and Mexican restaurants in the US are not 'real' representations of that culture's cuisine ignore the historical reality that these dishes were developed by diasporic communities striving to recreate the flavors of home with available resources. Such criticism frames adaptation as a loss of authenticity, rather than recognizing it as a sincere and evolving expression of culture by people separated from their homeland.
Also it just overlooks the fact that large parts of the United States literally used to be Mexico. Like yeah, chinese-american food is a diaspora cuisine and it's awesome.
But Mexican-american food is "regional cuisine that often began developing in what used to be part of Mexico/Mexican territory and continued to develop after the borders changed."
Some of it isn't "striving to recreate the flavors of home." Sure, maybe like, Mexican food in Chicago is about that. But I'm from Arizona. My family is from Tucson by way of (Tucson being annexed) and then Sonora & Chihuahua. We're not trying to recreate anything â because Tucson is still in the Sonoran desert.
This is a map of the Sonoran desert region:
I've helpfully marked Tucson.
Just to be clear, it takes an hour and 20 minutes nowadays to drive to the Mexican side of Nogales. You could walk the journey in a little over 27 hours. So obviously less than a week on horseback.
What I'm saying here is that the "diaspora" is maybe implying that Mexican-american cuisine largely developed with huge geographical distances or lack of access to Mexican cultivars or something but like.
Here's a map of New Spain in 1819:
Here's a map of the War:
I'm just saying that a lot of Mexican-American food is literally just food and culinary traditions that Mexicans were eating in northern parts of Mexico/New Spain.
It might shock people to learn, but there were Mexicans living in Mexico. And parts of Mexico are now the United States. And those Mexicans, if they stayed, are now Mexican Americans, and our culinary traditions have undergone normal growth and innovations over time. Mexico-mexicans also had normal innovations and growth in their regional cuisines as well! That's just how time and increased access with faster transport works. I have met a lot of people from Mexico who seem to think the second they're in San Diego instead of Tijuana, that the food is no longer authentic Mexican food and...it is baffling to me. It's an invisible line in the sand.
The border is not actually an impenetrable wall. The food doesn't become inauthentic at border patrol checkpoints. Those didn't even exist not that long ago.
It's authentic to something that isn't strictly about citizenship and documented nationality.
Of course! This is a great addition. It's crucial to remember that not all 'ethnic' food in a country comes from diaspora. Some of it is simply the native cuisine of land that was annexed.

The fastest way to accomplish The Project is to cease being afraid of The Project. The Project cannot maim you. The Project cannot kill you. The Project is more afraid of you than you are of it. It is okay if The Project turns out differently from how it was in your head, and it is okay if it has flaws. You are capable of engaging with The Project.

i think it's really fun when a rly specific trope is super popular in one particular medium but in other ones it's just totally unheard of. it's the time knife. visual novel players are suuuuper used to death games but many others encountered them for the first time in squid games. the other day my mom showed me all excited the summary of a super original novel she found and it was about a girl who got reincarnated as the main character in her favorite fantasy book
what the fuck is a time knife
Time knife is a form of time knife

So, Iâve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And Iâve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesnât make any small talk, just straight into âI clocked you doing 70 in a 55.â The only time Iâve ever gotten the âdo you know why I pulled you over?â was the time when I wasnât doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).
âDo you know why I pulled you over?â is a trap. It means thereâs a good chance the officer doesnât actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, thatâs a confession of guilt.
But thereâs another trap, that Iâve heard of but havenât yet experienced. Itâs âdo you know how fast you were going?â With that one, theyâre hoping youâll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want â you just said you didnât know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then youâre lying to them.
Oh, Iâve had that one. Go with âyes.â Donât give them a number, just say âYes.â Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but thatâs suspiciously similar to saying they donât know, and they tend to avoid doing that.

if you scroll past this just because it doesnât affect you personally, i see you.
Also, you can always go to court and contest a ticket, and a lot of times youâll win. Or if the cop thinks youâll win they wonât even show up and youâll win by default.
They like to target out of state plates because anyone who would be majorly inconvenienced by a court date two months away is a lot more likely to just pay it.
