I don’t know if it was purposeful on Shirahama’s part, but I’ve always thought that Coco and Agott’s designs were reminiscent of Dorothy and Ozma from the illustrations of Baum’s Oz books. Not to mention the sapphic vibes between both pair of girls. That thought inspired me to draw this piece. I’ve been loving the WHA anime so much. Have you been enjoying it as well?

witch hat atelier is great because in the first few chapters it looks like its really just going to be a cute magical girl story about hope and friendship but then you keep reading and its about how fascist societies fabricate a social structure to divide how power and information is disseminated and what life is like as a disabled person in that society. and then its also still about hope and friendship, but if hope and friendship could kill you.

I like to think that book Howl still uses all manner of nicknames for Sophie, which is what inspired this piece.
