Music
This week in music, I’m paying homage to a feeling. Music that flows well together and connects in content and feel. Instead of introducing you to new music, I’m introducing to a playlist concept.
Appreciate this, because next week I’m gonna hit everyone with more indie music. Or, “shtick” music as my coworker Tom likes to call it. P.S. not living that comment down Tom haha 😉
Lorde
I want to start with Lorde because she’s a powerful voice in music for my generation. Melodrama marks Lorde’s cross over into adulthood. Dealing with more mature issues such as navigating her first major heartbreak. She seems to sing right in front of you and becomes the voice of your thoughts if you listen to her long enough.
There’s also talk of the next album being very piano heavy! She’s learning bits of piano and writing music. So obvi, this is v exciting. Here’s an article about that

Frank Ocean
How does Lorde flow into Frank? I think that his music soars while Lorde stays consistent with darkness. Vocally, Frank takes us places we didn’t know we wanted to go. Lyrically he’s talking about self-discovery, love, and heartbreak.

SZA
I know, I’m behind. I just started listening to “The Garden” a couple of days ago and fell in love with the lyrics:
“Need you for the old me
Need you for my sanity
Need you to remind me where I come from
Can you remind me of my gravity?”
Why did I just now discover how amazing SZA is? I don’t know, I think within the context of my listening to Lorde and Frank Ocean more, she just kind of flowed into my playlist.

Drake
For me it started with Passionfruit, when I really started to pay attention to Drake. I think that song is genius, the way that it flows but has a unique dissonant overtone to it. It’s v Frank Ocean. In Drake’s music it’s easy to kind of zone out to the groove.

Willow
If you weren’t obsessed with “Whip My Hair” in 2010 (when I was 13, wow) then I just don’t know. I don’t think that that’s a great introduction to Willow though. She’s really grown a lot in her music. “Wait A Minute” being that, a sleek bop with reggae influence. Give her a listen, her vocal quality blends nicely on this playlist concept I’ve put together.
