i dont think theres anything wrong with a more romantic read, but i'd also like to emphasize what John had to say about his own experience with developing compassion, and how violent that compassion felt to have inside him at times.

I imagine it was incredibly painful to realize what he was putting other people through, and what other people would do to him. to have that compassion immedietly taken advantage of, and shoved back into hell for it. To be left with nothing, no friends, no godhood, no love, seemingly all because you let some douche infect you with his 'empathy'

It would feel like he'd been cursed to have a heart, and want to rip it out in the most violent way possible. it would make him want to double down on being a selfish god again.

Grace showing up to Erid starving, discombobulated, and with every disease known to man is hilarious in a morbid way because I’m just imagine Rocky shows up like “this is my alien friend! He saved my life and we bring back the cure to saving our star! Also, he’s dying and we know little to nothing about his biology to fix it. He saved you all so you better lock in and save his life. Good luck Eridian doctors!”

This leads the Eridian Stratt's Vat being reformed and they pull in some random Eridian who wrote very a controversial paper about speculative xenobiology and they're like "we have a squishy alien and you are the Squishy Alien scientist, and it's dying so you're now recruited to save it. let's go."

I’ve said for years, to anyone who’s had the misfortune of listening to me, that if you’re ever sick on an alien planet, you shouldn’t ask for their best doctor. You should ask for their best veterinarian.

This isn’t an original idea of mine btw. I read it somewhere years ago and I don’t remember where, but it stuck with me.

Doctors know one species very well. But vets have to be able to work with many different body plans. Some of which respond in completely opposite ways and have completely different healthy states. When it comes to medication dosing, healing procedures, etc, it’s important to have a medic who is able to say “that doesn’t look good based on what I know about this specific life form.” Who are used to making highly educated guesses about something they’ve never seen before, based on their insanely wide breadth of knowledge.

Not to mention, doctors treat patients who can communicate with language. Vets are used to different forms of communication. Of course, the language thing wouldn’t be as big of a problem for a human on Erid.

I never considered asking for an academic, an expert in astrobiology. That makes a lot of sense! If I ever find myself on an alien planet, I’m definitely going to keep that one in mind.

Though I still think my best bet would be to ask for an astrobiologist, a team of veterinarians, and maybe a doctor.

Also, veterianrians know what to do with a symptom

If you tella doctor that your hair is dull and you have weird groves in your nails and both of those things coincided with you feeling bad and also your brain not braining properly anymore

They will just look at you blankly and maybe mumble something about shampoo

If you tell that to a veterinarian they will most likely go

dull fur, growth issues in the claws ... yeah that sounds bad lets do some blood tests

like btwn oscar coming around and parker... Being Around, i feel like we are gearing up for some kind of major test of john's character growth perhaps. like he's made peace with his mistakes for himself, but that has all been in the company of arthur, who is, as is very conspicuously pointed out in this episode!! willing to forgive him to a fault, even to the point of that forgiveness being less "actually okay with" and more "swallowing down my own feelings about for john's sake." which i DO think john has been a little too okay with just passively accepting. and i'm very interested to see the potential for how he'll handle someone being able to give him a little more pushback bc they are not Literally Dependent On Him To Live.

AND SPEAKING OF ARTHUR... godd the way parker sees and handles his relationship with john is just... clutches my chest augh my heart. like ohh parker cares about him so damn much and is a- okay forgive me for being blunt but a Whole Ass Human Adult with enough emotional literacy to read between the lines of why arthur might want to be secretive about this. and then to silently go out of his way to create an excuse for him?? there's so much Understanding there. "don't just tell him/forgive him/trust him because you feel like you're obligated" nobody else has ever said this to arthur in the history of the world ever. imagining their precanon relationship after this interaction is gonna drive me to madness. alive parker i fear you were too powerful and too much of a good thing for arthur you simply had to be nerfed by dying

and of course it goes without saying that "are you sure you trust him? you know he won't do anything to hurt you? you feel like your secrets are safe with him?" said to arthur about john by someone JOHN MURDERED is some crazy work. and immediately followed up by arthur taking the fall for that crime specifically to protect john's reputation. this dynamic is a fucking time bomb
