One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.

The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.

And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.

And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

Fun fact the Maverick (roleswap!Master) doesn’t really favor Earth. Humanity’s (eventual) achievements in space are respectable and on the incredibly rare occasion he gets homesick it’s nice that humans look like time lords, but there are other planets he finds more interesting. He doesn’t dislike it and he cares for its well being, but the same could be said for almost anywhere else he visits. The reason he returns to it so frequently is that he knows the Healer (roleswap!Doctor) loves Earth and its people. And when the Healer loves something that is just as dangerous as if he hates something.

Someone has to stop him from taking over the Earth and brainwashing its people in name of “saving” them, and who better than a fellow Time Lord who did better in the academy than he did? (Academics being the only area of Time Lord society the Maverick did better in than the Healer. Unlike the Doctor the Healer fit in quite well until the incident, meanwhile the Maverick was looked down on since being deemed insane at age eight.)

It’s routine for the Maverick to stop there once and a while, to the point that by the time he realizes there’s no reason for him to worry about what the Healer might try when all the other Time Lords are dead, he’s already wandering the London streets.

Of course, the Healer did manage to survive, but Mav won’t find that out for a while. Right now he’s stuck looking for something interesting to do in a place that constantly reminds him of his dead “friend”. Like those posters for some prime minister candidate. John Smith. The Healer loved using that as a fake name, but it’s not him is it? He’s dead. The Healer is gone and the Maverick’s mind is cruel for making him think for a split second that this might be some plot of his that he’ll have to stop, cruel for making him think anything is like it was before the war. That name is just a coincidence, isn’t it?
