Aster has begun to let me examine his necklace while we sit beside one another.
It is very enjoyable. For the time being, it is a good alternative until he decides to trade it to me.
There's a light knocking on the door, followed immediately by three forceful ones. It doesn't seem urgent, but more so meant to get someone's attention that there's people at the door. Through the peephole there's a tall imposing figure dressed in a large cloak. It seems they're fidgeting with something underneath it. They had a sack full of objects that made noises as it was jostled. What they were was anyone's guess.
Next to them is a much smaller figure, possibly a child? Their face was ruddy red and had...what one could assume was rows and rows of teeth. What's more worrying is their hands, one was a mallet made out of flesh, which they used to pound on the door, while the other was split and full of teeth and dripping...with what one would hope is drool. @cricketcollector - @thetoothygumshoe

The small boy gave her a look. It was February as far as he knew, though he wished it was Halloween. He could get loads of candy by willing people, instead of having to steal it or trade for it. Gumaro returned his mallet-like hand to its normal state with a wet, crunchy squelch, and he tipped his detective hat down to be polite. He then gestured toward Madison, made a grabbing motion, pointed at Morton, and then at his sack, which he then shook lightly.
After that, he began to make some persistent grunting noises. Did...did he want her to get into the sack or did he want some object to put in there? He wasn't speaking with his words. @cricketcollector
Perhaps the woman was delirious, possibly due to her looking outside, or she might have been sick. Either way, Morton took the oppurtunity to translate.

Gumaro gave a thumbs-up at Morton's translation, and then he began scanning the room for other people, though he didn't enter just yet. This lady had extra teeth like he did, and she appeared friendly, if not a little weird. He'd wait for Morton's go ahead since they were the adult (?) who he was supposed to listen to and follow. If there were toys scattered everywhere, then this 'Benjamin' was likely another kid, hopefully with strange teeth as well. He gripped the hem of Sam's stolen sweater with his normal hand and got a little fidgety from anticipation and shyness of possibly meeting a new friend. He was brought out of his thoughts when Madison spoke of his and Morton's relationship. Morton was his...what? He wasn't one of his dads, nor was he his brother. He felt like they were friends though. Morton let him hug him twice now, they liked each other and even shared candy.
Gumaro didn't bother responding to her words, simply looking over at Morton with his half-lidded gaze, being extra careful to not move his eyebrows. He wanted to test the waters and see how Morton really felt about him without giving any tells. - @cricketcollector
"Ehh..."
Morton had a few options here. Gumaro was just an acquaintance; he was someone Morton trusted with his junk, his open sack unwatched.
"He is a good friend."
Morton was the one to step inside first, holding his sack over himself in spite of the slouched posture it gave him.
He carefully manuvered his dexteritus feet around the discarded toys. If they were belonging to a child, they were not up for bargain. Gumaro might have wanted to play with them, though.
" Right.. "
[ she looked around, wincing a little as the headache she felt was still actively making her rub her forehead but she quickly fixed her posture ]

[ she smiled so warmly not making any other move letting gumaro choose to between interact with her further or stay idle instead ]
@thetoothygumshoe
Gumaro grunted in approval at Morton's words. It seems he was right in believing they were friends. It was a huge relief to know that it wasn't a one-sided affection or merely a transactional relationship between the two.
He looked Madison over, sizing her up. She seemed a little sick and not all in the present. He could understand that. When he first mutated, he felt… what was the word… manic? It was as if he were himself, but not entirely himself, observing from an outside perspective and lacking full control over his actions. His mind was very faint and fuzzy that day. At least she isn't doing what he did. She seemed like a good mama, even lying and trying to put him at ease with that smile. Gumaro reached over and gently patted her knee to reassure her. He was uncertain if she would be comfortable with a hug, especially since one arm was still wide open and drooly, but he wanted to express his approval and appreciation for her facade. He then lolled his head to one side, and then to the other, thinking. He did want to play with more boys (?) his age (?) since so far all of his company has been a middle-aged man, a girl and a weird rat thing.
Sure, there was Morton, but he believed they were more inclined towards 'parallel play' and engaging conversations, rather than making gun sounds or playing roughly.
That was understandable; some people preferred different types of play than others. He wouldn't force Morton to play the way he wanted, he could find other friends for that. He didn't want to be rude, however, since he was her guest. Gumaro subtly leaned his upper body to one side, gestured towards himself, then to Madison, and used his mouth-arm to mimic talking. He then shifted to the opposite side and gestured towards the toys on the floor and then back to himself. @cricketcollector
"Ehh, I am looking for little trinkets and such. Gumaro would like Candy."
Perhaps Morton could explain the reasoning behind Gumaro wanting Candy, but it wasn't necessary to share in any instance.
Morton observed the motions and gestures of Gumaro. He was getting more sure of what they meant the more they interacted, which was most satisfying.
"Would it be alright if Gumaro adjourned to, ehh, meet your offspring?"
Morton took more of a passive role when it came to translating for Gumaro, unable to impose his wants or emotions onto the words he used.
" ...You mean children? Joel and Benjamin are likely in their rooms together.. prob scattering toys in there too and uh.."
" My sweet little angel Rosie is taking a nap! "
[ she stared intensely at Morton before blinking again and stood up again, gently ruffling gumaro's hair before fixing it two seconds later and fixed their hat ]
" Ouhh..So precious..."
[ she looked around, she had some unopened candies from one of her last runs to a store before everything went downhill]
" Mm...I got caramilks..Aero smarties..maynard gummies and KitKats!... Think I put the rest of the candies in the jar. "
" As for you...m...mor...Uhm. I've been meaning to throw out some old ceramics if that peaks your interest! "
@thetoothygumshoe
Gumaro startled a little when Madison ruffled his wispy hair and crooned at him, calling him 'precious'. Her way of showing affection was different than his dad's, or even Otto, and it surprised him. It wasn't bad, just different. He wouldn't make a scene about it though. He'll make an exception for her touching him without giving the go ahead. Just this one.
Gumaro looked down at the floor and tugged his hat down to cover his face. He needed a moment to collect himself and think about what kind of candies he would want. His feet idly shuffled against the floor as he chewed on a piece of hard candy. He'd have to be mindful with his body gestures. With his cap still covering his face, and without looking up, he pointed one finger upward and then gave a thumbs up. He then held up two fingers and did a thumbs down, followed by three fingers and a thumbs up that he thrust upward, and finally, he held up four fingers with another thumbs up. While he was doing that, two small figures quietly opened the door from their bedroom to eavesdrop on what was happening. They had heard the loud banging earlier and were both intrigued and a little scared of the strangers in the house. @cricketcollector
"It is Morton, but, ehh, it doesn't particularly concern me."
It seemed like the woman needed help with the pronunciation, but Morton didn't care much on what he was called.
Morton perked up at the mention of ceramics. He knew that some were worth a pretty penny pre-visitor! Regardless of their prior or present material value, he was very intrigued.
"Ehh, ceramics. Yes... I would love to see them."
" Come..come. "
[ She gestured only Morton to follow her into the kitchen, where Clint seems to be slumped over in a chair ]
[ she seems to notice Clint only to just rub his back and went to open the display cabinet with antique ceramics and tea sets ]
" Originally I was gonna use them but then I decided they're better as being displayed and not used! "
[ she glanced back at the living room then focused on Clint, smiling before going back to showing the ceramics, she seemed a little tense wondering when did Clint have the energy to get up and walk?? ]
[ While rambling she kept passing by Clint and rubbing his back on the left shoulder while talking to Morton calmly as if nothing was happening and there's no teeth infestation! ]
[ clearly a nervous muscle memory tic since she kept just doing it mindlessly when she walked past him for the 5th of 6th time. ]
" Got these too.. "
[ she looked the bottom cabinets and pulled the drawer to show off different shapes and designed spoons ]
- @thetoothygumshoe
The two metaphorical flies on the wall slowly made their way out into the living room. Joel...was a little different looking now. Parts of his face had been consumed by teeth and he was missing one of his eyes. In one hand he was holding Fuzzy and in the other he was holding onto Ben's hand. The six-year-old had teeth growing along his shoulders and parts of his skull. He appeared a bit unsteady on his two legs, likely due to waking up recently and still a little groggy. However, he didn't seem too bothered by it. His brown eyes were bright and focused, filled with curiosity about what was happening. "Hhh... who are these people? Are they staying over for -hhh- dinner, Mom?" Joel asked, looking between her, the Cricket and the new boy who...also had teeth? Before he could ask about his whole tooth situation, Benjamin did it for him. "Hooo. Did you get -hhhrrk- bit by Rosie? She's really really cranky. It hurt a looooot." Gumaro felt somewhat overwhelmed by all the questions and was unsure how to respond. He looked up and shook his head several times at the two of them. To his knowledge, they were not staying for dinner, and he hadn't been bitten by a 'Rosie'. That seemed to satisfy Benjamin at least. He let go of Joel's hand and without grace or permission grabbed Gumaro by the hand and tugged him over to the toys that were scattered on the floor. "You can -HHHHRRK- play with me then while your weird Dad talks to Mom then!" Joel frowned at how forward Benjamin was. He didn't even ask if he wanted to play, and it wasn't polite to drag people around, especially someone he just met. Mom taught him that. "Ben, that's -hhh- not very nice of you. You're supposed to ask -hhh- people first if they wanna play." While Gumaro didn't appreciate being grabbed without permission, 'Ben' looked and sounded really young and possibly didn't know better? Gumaro was taught to be extra patient with younger kids since they were still learning how the world worked. He'll be the bigger person and let it slide, though he will teach him manners if he does it again. That's what older kids are supposed to do. Gumaro sat himself down and shook his head at Joel, pointing to the army toys and then giving a thumbs-up, then motioning him to come over as well. He did want to make friends and play, even if the way it was done wasn't the correct way of doing it. Joel seemed to understand, much to his relief. "Hhh...okay. My name is -hhh- Joel and this is -hhh- Fuzzy!" The three of them started talking amongst themselves (with Gumaro writing, he took his notepad out because this was important!) about their new mutations and about each other while they played about with the army toys. The occasional machine gun 'trrt trrt trrt' and 'bhkeeew' of an explosion being heard from the gaggle in the corner. @cricketcollector
Morton kept an eye on Gumaro passively, though his attention was more focused on Madison and on the topic of the ceramics she had. He wouldn't step into that conversation, because Gumaro could and was handling himself just fine.
He noted that they were in fairly good condition, though they had no place in his satchel and would break easily in his sack. He would find a place for them sooner or later, but he wondered about the other trinkets she may have stashed away.
At the mention of utensils, Morton perked up and walked over, instantly excited.
Spoons!
Morton had an appreciation for utensils in and of itself. He stored them in a designated pouch in a designated pocket in the desginated bag that was his satchel.
He promptly pulled out the leather case that they lived in, opened it and and laid it out on the counter.
It was a leather wallet-like thing, possibly originally for knives? Its current use was for various cutlery, some beat up and some pristine, orgianized randomly in the various holsters.
Morton took the utensils from the drawer one by one to look at and compare with his own. He did not holster them in the case, nor did he stash them in his bag. He had just enough self-control to await a trade offer.
"Ehhh, Madison, was it?"
Morton did not move to look at the woman as he spoke, absolutely enamoured by the utensils occupying his hands.
"What would you be, ehhhh, willing to trade for these... Ehh, beauties."

(Hellen holds out 63 junk)
Any good weapons
"Ehh, yess.."
Morton pulls the sack from his bag and tugs it opens. He sifts through it as he speaks.
"I have, ehh knives, machettes, cleavers. Some ammo and guns. Ehhh, what do you desire?"

In the evening, Sam has been gone for quite a while.
When, out of the blue, a knock appears at the door.
What will you do?
@cricketcollector
Gumaro paused him game session of Super Jumplad and lazily slides himself off the couch. He'd been making himself at home in Sam's absence, even going so far as to steal one of Sam's clean sweaters to wear instead of his old, sweaty and gross sweatshirt.
He made his way towards the door and stood on his tip-toes, opening it up without asking who it even was. If it was a friend, good! If it was a monster or somebody who wanted to hurt him he could easily take them on. @cricketcollector
Beyond the door was Morton, sack slung over their back just as it was before.
"Ehhh, greetings, Gumaro."
Beneath his cloak, a clicking of plastic can be heard. Perhaps he was fidgeting with something again?
"I bring you information. Ehhh, you have junk, yes?"
Gumaro immediately gives the cricket a hug. He could tolerate a bit of extra irritation to his skin if it involved Morton, he'll ask what the clicking is at a later time. After a few moments of embracing Morton, he releases him and gestures for him to come inside. He didn't have any junk of his own, but everything Sam had was his, and Sam had junk galore.
Gumaro motioned at the junk shelf in the corner, made a grabbing motion, pointed at Morton and did a shoving motion. He wasn't using his notepad for once and was relying on gesticulations.
Morton stilled at the hug. He had never experienced something akin to that before. People honestly avoided touching him in general, and to be faced with arms wrapping around him and a body leaning into him?
It was a shock, alright.
He quickly stabilized himself when he was released, blinking. It was odd. He'd say it was uncomfortable, but...he wasn't sure that word was the right one.
After that fraction of a second pause, Morton followed Gumaro inside and sat his sack on the wall closest to the door. The weight was a pleasent reassurance, but it was essential to have it off when purveying junk. It stayed pulled shut, however.
He followed Gumaro's movements with his eyes and walked to the aforementioned shelf. He looked through boxes and smaller containers to find the trinkets that were stashed for him.
Gumaro walked closely behind, wanting to be near someone he felt safe with. Sophie was a bit overwhelming for him; he wasn't sure how to interact with the weird little rat thing, and Sam was… well, Sam. He was still trying to find a balance with him.
He fidgeted with his own fingers before slowly reaching over and gently grabbed onto Morton's cloak. He didn't tug it or want any immediate attention since they were currently busy, but just holding onto them was a comfort.
Morton knew what it was, but still felt the need to glance at Gumaro. They couldn't make out his facial expression at this angle, but if Gumaro had something to say, he's just say it.
Morton looked back at the junk and gave a small toy to Gumaro. They could part with it, just this once.
Gumaro perked up a little at the toy and gladly took it, putting it into his shorts pocket alongside his candy. Maybe the two of them could play something together before Morton left. Gumaro had his little skateboard, a kooshball, this new toy and Sam had the entire gaming console. Would Morton be fine if he tech decked over him or his bag of junk? He'll have to ask them about it later. "What information do you have for me?" He eked out to the cricket.
Morton continued to rifle through the shelf. They hoped to find buttons to learn more information from that shadow they had met.
"Ehh, it might not be of use to you. There's a crashed bus on the ground floor, ehhh, people with hands and fingers where they shouldn't be, ehh, came out of it."
Morton stuffed a loose button into their satchel beneath their cloak for safe-keeping.
"There's an apartment in which, ehhh, people have teeth growing all over."
A crashed bus with hand people inside? He had seen a few monsters with extra hands or fingers before, so that didn't really pique his interest. He's even eaten one before; it was super gross biting someone else's nails, and he wouldn't recommend it. The apartment with toothy people however, did intrigue him. Were they like him? Did their mouths hurt constantly? Did they have teeth growing everywhere? Did they know how to handle the pain without needing something to chew on all the time? He had so many questions.
"Are the teeth people friendly?"
He wouldn't be opposed to making friends with them if they weren't dangerous. Though, even if he did make friends with them, Morton would still be his best friend though.
Morton continued their work as they answered Gumaro.
"Ehhhh, my source says they are dangerous."
To be fair, Riza had said that they were scary. But to be fair, he phrased things oddly.
"I think that they are, ehh, on this floor."
It seemed Morton didn't have much information to grant Gumaro. They could look for more specifics, though. Especially once they knew what type of information Gumaro desired.
Dangerous? His shoulders immediately slumped. He could handle danger; he was a tough boy capable of turning his entire body into a weapon, but he didn't want to accidentally hurt or kill anyone in self-defense.
"C-can they read? Are they smart? I w-want more friends." He could use the few remaining pages in his notepad to communicate, though he'd prefer not to. If they were smart he could rely on body language and finger movements.
"Ehhh, I do not know."
Maybe Morton should've pried for more information. Humans were pack animals, which would probably lead to a feeling of lonliness when apart from fellow humans.
They stopped their search at the shelves and turned fully to Gumaro.
"We could explore together. Ehhh,, in the instance that there are many."
They didn't want to see Gumaro hurt or stuck. Even though Gumaro seemed physically capable of taking care of himself.
"It would be a good opportunity to, ehh, look for trinkets."
Sam had left him alone in the apartment, which would of been okay in short bursts after he got acclimated, but this was a new place where he didn't know anyone, and the feelings of grief from the museum were still palpable. He needed the company of people, or at least an adult in the same room to give him peace of mind and security.
Gumaro held the brim of his head with one hand and turned away, shuffling shyly as he held his free one to Morton to hold. "I want to explore t-together. I'll keep you safe"
Morton was glad Gumaro chose that option. Morton could fully protect themself or run when needed, though, Gumaro still wasn't wrong with his wording; they could protect one another. Even if the wording was incorrect, it didn't seem like something to correct him on.
Morton walked to their sack, opened it, and placed the found junk inside. They assumed Gumaro meant to leave now or soon. Regardless, it was always good to be ready.
"Ehh, I am ready when you are."
Gumaro lowered his hand and stuffed it into his pocket. He didn't have anything else to really take with him, other than his notepad and candy, so he was all set. Sam will just have to deal with his absence for the time being if he comes back before he does. There was no way he was going to waste one of his precious pages to let the old man know where he went, he'd be back sooner or later anyway. Gumaro made his way over to the cricket and gave him a big thumbs up. He felt he didn't need to verbally say he was ready to leave, Morton was smart.
Morton watched the motion, and with that, slung their junk sack over themself.
They were interested in that place, too. Curious as to what things they had, and if they would have been wiling to trace for them.
And, honestly, a little wonder went to how Gumaro would respond to them. He seemed quite... interested as well. At least Morton didn't have to worry about him throwing himself into danger; Gumaro was smarter than that.
With a grip on their sack in one hand, and two smaller hands fidgeting with a trinket, Morton opened the door for the both of them.
Gumaro sidled up close to Morton, his head on a swivel to keep an eye out for any potential dangers. He didn't know what kind of monsters lurked in this building or what kind of flavor of danger the teeth people were. The detective let out a grunt of pain, and with a disturbing wet sound, the hand not in his pocket opened sideways along his arm to reveal a gaping maw of teeth. His eye then shut tightly as a long, pointed tooth burst forth from the top, resembling a spear. With this he could fend monsters off, even if he was small and his reach wasn't the greatest. Give em the 'ol bite and stab. He was ready to face whatever was thrown at them.
Morton walked the halls, as cautious as they always were, looking for the door that lead to the tooth people.
Once they had found it, they knocked lightly, same as they did for Sam and others.
It was equally possible that they were lucid or ravenous beasts, but obviously, Gumaro was willing to take that risk. So Morton was willing to, as well.
In the evening, Sam has been gone for quite a while.

In the evening, Sam has been gone for quite a while.
When, out of the blue, a knock appears at the door.
What will you do?
@cricketcollector
