it’s hard to say if midousuji is intentionally being written as autistic-but-can’t-address-it-directly-because-of-editors, like how izumida is totally gay, but if he is he’s a really detailed portrayal of it

special interests/hyperfixation and social problems are pretty common to see even from people who aren’t knowingly writing autism, but midousuji’s flashbacks show things that can be easily interpreted as selective mutism and a motor sensory processing disorder, and the intense, magical imagery around him seems to be a reflection of the way he thinks about things

that and a bunch of other smaller things i don’t know how to articulate very well come together to paint a very specific picture, compared to the kind of just ambiguously “weird” character he easily could have been
