Little things like this is what makes the show is so pure and good wth
Their faces…
when will cis teachers start respecting their trans students lol
there’s a non-binary student in my grade, and they recently had their name and gender officially changed in the school system and all their teachers have an updated attendance list with their correct name on it.
i only have one class with them, but i have friends who have other classes with them and get to see how other teachers treat them. one teacher (let’s call him mr. c) just straight up disrespects their name.
their name is solan. that’s pronounced like the “sol” from solar before the word “an”, the emphasis being on “sol”. mr. c just either address them as “you” (ex: “you, what did you get for number 2?”) or pronounced their name so-LAWN (which, btw, is incredibly annoying).
as for that one class i have with them? our teacher pronounced their name correctly as soon as their name was changed. she’s always addressed them by their (correctly pronounced) name and referred to them with the correct pronouns as if they’re the name and pronouns they’ve always used.
trans students have names. it’s not difficult to respect them.
(cis people reblog this)
there’s a transgender girl in my grade who got her name changed on all the transcripts and everything before last year (our freshman year) but some teachers didn’t have the very new updated lists so one day in english our teacher was absent and the sub called her by her previous name and everyone was like “who tf” and nobody knew the last name either because nobody really knows each other’s last names anymore and i think i was the only one who really knew and she was so embarrassed and sad sitting in her seat and after the sub took the full attendance she had to go up and tell this random ass substitute about it and he felt terrible about it too
another time later that year we had another sub (who now had the updated list) who wasn’t as caring about it. this old ass woman is taking attendance and GOES UP TO A GIRL SITTING NEAR GABBY (trans student) and literally asks her “are /they/ a girl or boy????” and was so snarky about it i almost started yelling. gabby was so embarrassed and like sad about this like really she was mortified i felt horrible for her. but the girl the sub asked literally turned, looked her dead in the eye, and asked back “does it really even matter?” and the rest of us were like !!!! and sat forward in our seats to show the sub we were in agreement and finally the sub just like turned away with a snuff like ok bitch ur not great u literally just made a whole class of teenagers dislike u
ANYWAY teachers should care about trans students and call them by their preferred name and also be nice and caring because these students already go through a lot and they EXIST why is this hard to understand
also its important to note that when then teacher doesn’t respect trans students names and pronouns then often OTHER STUDENTS don’t either i don’t get why teachers think they can be assholes
Students may not know that there are legal situations that prevent school staff from changing records. And as a school staff member, I can tell you, the parents of the transgender children play a key role in the records transition. Most of our transgender students' parents refuse to allow records to be changed for their children. (Meaning, out of 7 transitioning kids, 2 have parents who are cooperating). This means teachers will adopt the change verbally and accept work with the name, but their computer records don't change. They try to write notes for a sub to avoid problems, but sometimes notes don't get passed along, or the subs don't know to look for them. I'm not saying there aren't asshole teachers out there, because obviously there are. But, what you may think has been officially changed, may only have been unofficially changed. I know at the school I work at, we all try our damnedest to make sure we provide the safest and most inclusive environment possible for all students. Not only do we have counseling and support groups for students, we also have gender identity training for staff, and offer programs for other students to learn as well. Sometimes, though, the legal system makes a student's transition very difficult. Especially when the parents refuse the child's request. The most contentious of which, has resulted in a lawsuit where the parents are suing the school for using the student's preferred name.
Honestly, Rick Rolling is the best practical joke ever. Like, there’s nothing offensive or mean spirited about it. It’s just like “Oops you thought there would be something else here but it’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.” which isn’t even a bad song. It’s fairly enjoyable to listen to. There’s no jumpscares, no screaming, no ill will. Just Rick Astley telling you he’s never going to give you up. I think that’s great. “You fell into my trap! Here, listen to this completely benign song that will have no negative effect on you.”
I wish this were true. There’s a really good article about the problems inherent with rickrolling here.
Very interesting. I never thought about that and now I feel bad.
I knew what the link was. I clicked it anyway.
Me when people ask why I want to introduce them to the Newsies fandom:
Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher watched the Yoda - Rockin’ and Rollin’ video together
Armies of guys who are sick of the lies, getting ready to rise to the call!
you know what kills me, what really haunts my deepest darkest dreams? harry using lumos at privet drive in prisoner of azkaban to do his homework. WARNER BROTHERS! Harry Potter WAS NOT ALLOWED TO DO MAGIC OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL. THAT’S WHY HE RAN AWAY AFTER BLOWING UP HIS FUCKING AUNT. Do you understand the MAJOR continuity problem in your adaptation of this billion-dollar book series? DO YOU UNDERSTAND?
classic lit authors on ao3
Jane Austen: The slowburn writer to end all slowburn writers. Has a mild case of purple prose syndrome. Sets you up to think she's using a really lame trope or cliche, but then pulls the old BITCH U THOUGHT. Gets in fights with commenters who completely miss the point of her work.
William Shakespeare: Where dick jokes meet feels. Recycles old plots that have been in the fandom for years, but always manages to put a new spin on it. That said, he's better known for good character writing than good plots. Kind of problematic, but people love him anyway. Laughs at and encourages commenters who completely miss the point of his work.
The Brontë Sisters: Their fics get lots of comments but they never reply. They never leave author notes, either. They share an account, and there are talks of a collab fic coming soon. Write fics for OTPs of questionable healthiness and consent. Only ever write darkfic. Like, REALLY dark. ...People are getting kind of worried about them.
Edgar Allan Poe: Also only ever writes darkfic, but at this point, people have moved past being worried about him and have just accepted that he's weird, he's morbid, and we love him. Channels his feelings about his ex into his writing. It results in really good stories but everyone's sort of like, "...Dude."
Charles Dickens: Trying to set the record for highest wordcount on ao3, and it shows.
Victor Hugo: Currently holds the record for highest wordcount on ao3.
Oscar Wilde: Only ever writes M/M. Has a BAD case of purple prose, but it's worth it if you manage to get through. His stories are either hilarious or soul-crushing. Or somehow both. People love him but know better than to disagree with him publicly, lest he destroy you with one of his infamous subtweets.
L. Frank Baum: Wrote one really well-loved story that's among the most famous in the fandom, and it's literally all he's known for, and it pisses him off. His popular story became a multichap against his will because it's the only one of his stories anyone actually reads. He keeps trying to end it so he can work on other things, but always ends up coming back.
Arthur Conan Doyle: Feels L. Frank Baum's pain. SO much.
James Joyce: Has fascinating ideas, but takes forEVER to get to the point in his stories. Also a stoner, and it shows.
Lousia May Alcott: Writes stories for her unpopular OTP (that's a NOTP for most of the fandom) and breaks up everyone's favorite ships, mainly out of spite. Also kills everyone's favorite characters, less so out of spite.
Mary Shelley: Writes incredible stories, but publishes under her boyfriend's account because she's banned from ao3. ...Again.
What she says: Everything is fine.
What she means: I am never going to get over the fact that the major plot point of Love Never Dies is that Gustave must be the Phantom's child instead of Raoul's because he is musically talented, despite the fact that his mother is an INTERNATIONALLY FAMOUS OPERA SINGER.
