Inquisition Squad, report!
Meet Haarold Adaar, Herald of Andraste
My favorite part of the Urn of Sacred Ashes is when you see the high dragon and everyone is like “Oh hey we should not fight that.” and the Warden is like
I slipped on ice and you helped me up and now it’s kinda awkward: Lira/Nate
Lira hated the snow.
When she first experienced it, it’d been a novelty. Back when she lived in Orzammar, she’d had no idea that snow even existed, the stories of white flakes drifting from above no more than tall tales. During her first week on the surface, when snow came down slow but steady, she was almost convinced the world was going to end. It had taken hours of encouragement from her comrades and a snowball to convince her that the weather was harmless.
Lira didn’t fear the snow anymore. But that didn’t mean she had to like it. She was a dwarf. She grew up next to streams of magma. The cold was not something she tolerated well. And neither was ice.
“Come’on, Lira, pick up the pace!” Masha called from the front of the line. They were working their way through the mountains, determined to get to the next outpost, and while Lira understood the cold was unavoidable, that didn’t stop her from being put out. “Faster you walk, the less cold you’ll be!”
Lira hoped her glare could be made out under a hood and two scarves. She did as she was told, tucking her bare hands into her pockets as they began to head up another slope. He whistle, usually a comfort, clinked against her armor.
“Do you need a pair of gloves, commander?” Lira looked to Howe, who was standing next to her. He was wrapped up less than she was, his blood used to the cold, and he eyed her hands with slight worry. Lira just shook her head. Gloves were impossible to sign in. “Are you sure? I have-”
The momentary distraction took Lira’s attention off the ground, and when she stepped on a patch of ice, it caught her entirely by surprise. She felt the world tilt and her foot slid out from underneath her, and her mouth opened in a silent yelp. With her hands in her pockets, there was no way to regain her balance. All she could do was embrace for the impact and hope for no broken bones.
She was rather surprised when the impact never came. Instead she felt a pair of arms sweep under her legs and torso and pick her up, saving her from a brutal introduction to the ice. When she managed to reorient herself, she found herself face to face with Howe.
Howe. Nathaniel. Who was carrying her. Bridal style.
She felt a flush cross her face that had nothing to do with the cold. It had been an age since someone had to carry her like this. She usually hated it, being far off the ground was never comforting, but for once, she found herself rather at ease in the position. Howe’s face was rather red too, suddenly taking in what he’d done, and Lira could see his brain try to work out what to say.
Poor man.
“Thank you,” Lira signed. “That was quick thinking.”
Howe shrugged, some calm returning into his face. “It was no problem.”
Lira couldn’t help but smile. Stone, Rica would love to hear about this. The famous hero swept up by a handsome surfacer. It was something out of a fairy tale. Lira would have to make sure her sister never found out. Howe was her recruit. She couldn’t go around giving the wrong-
“Smooth, Howe!”
Lira froze, suddenly remembering her company. She looked behind her to find Krim, Martha and Anders all looking at her with smug expressions. Martha was the one who’d spoken, but Lira could already see the cogs turning in the others’ heads.
“This is something out of one of those romance novels we snuck around at the circle,” Anders said, snapping his fingers to create a small flaming heart. “Things usually progressed past this of course, but it’s a good start, wouldn’t you say, Krim.”
“I never read those texts, Anders,” Krim said. “I preferred higher literature.”
“Yes, of course. “Two Maidens and the Wizard” was the height of reading-”
“Howe,” Lira signed, refusing to meet the recruit’s eyes. “Please put me down so I can kill them.”
“With pleasure.” The moment Lira’s feet hit the ground, the three were already on the retreat.
Only Masha noticed that the blush on Howe’s cheeks had yet to fade.
Warden and Inquisitor Squad!
If you Wardens and Inquisitors had custom tarot cards, which card would they be and why?
Judgement denotes a milestone in the development of your soul. You have walked through fire, and come out of it transformed, and renewed. You are now liberated from your past, and this card marks your awareness of this freedom. Now is a good time to make the change complete. You may want to honor and mark your change in some way, major or minor. Acknowledging that you have reached this point and releasing any leftover negative reminders from the “old” you are the final steps in the process.
Krim came from a bad place. He was naive, arrogant and overeager to test himself because of his place as a former noble and as a mage.
With everything that happened to him, he came out tempered and liberated from his past. He learned to let go of the toxic past and embrace what happened to him.
Krim Amell left the Circle an naive, mouthy, arrogant snot and surmounted his challenges a hopeful, measured hero..
Guys, Warden Squad: Star Wars AU
Seren and Masha, twin daughters of a rebellions mid-rim senator
Masha and Lira, a twi’let and wookie bounty hunter team that’s sympathetic to the rebellion
Krim, former Jedi apprentice on the run sense Order 66 went down when he was nine years old
They all meet on a prison ship and escape, taking an ironic name from their adventure.
They are the rebel cell known as Warden Squad
RVB meets the Warden Squad, pt. 1
Seren: So it's a glowing sword, yes? So it can still stab people.
Masha: So is a sword all the time, and it only acts like a key in very certain, specific situations?
Krim: Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it into people, you unlock their deaths
Should You Fight This Member of The Warden Squad?
Seren Cousland: Why would you fight Seren? Have you met Seren? Do you hate joy and love? That’s like fighting an actual Disney princess. Also, she tortured a man to death once, so uh, maybe not.
Masha Cousland: Nice knowing you, kid. Don’t fuck with Masha. Or her girlfriend. Or her sister. Value your life.
Krim Amell: Could be fun. You’ll end up burnt to a crisp and stabbed with a light sword at the end of it, but he’ll pun the entire time, which might make the experience worth it. Decide based on how well you take the smell of burnt hair.
Marsha Tabris: Worth it. She will shank you and steal all your shit, but it is an honor to be beaten up by Marsha Tabris. Ask her husband. Just wear good chainmail to save your internal organs.
Lira Brosca: Don’t let her height fool you; you will get wrecked and break at least five bones. Spar her if you want, but don’t actually fight her unless you like pain. And the feeling of pure terror.

THIS IS EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED.
Marsha’s anger is just so pure here and the entire ride is both hysterical and dark. The end made me smile and I think it says wonders about Marsha’s character growth.
Also new aesthetic: “Fuck Orzammar” shirts worn by Lira and Marsha.

7. In Ferelden, people hold dogs at great esteem, so it’s easy to believe that when a person names a dog after you, or vice versa, it’s something of a compliment/honor. The reason I’m saying this is that Krim Amell named his mabari ‘Hawke’, because he looked up to his uncle and cousin Hawke in Lothering.
8. Honestly, it was probably Alistiar. It relieved Krim a lot to see a templar that, not only was not a devout oath taker of his order, but also someone that felt genuine sympathy for being forced to go into an order they didn’t want. He even understood why Alistair supported using the Rite of Annulment. There was a real tremble in his voice and Krim knew that there was a threat of demons making it out.
It put some strain on the friendship for a little bit, but he did understand, given the nature of the matter at hand.
10. Krim went thru a lot of development from leaving the Circle to going back (which, in his own canon at least, was the second place visited after Red Cliff (not sure about Warden Squad canon, tho)). When he left, he was naive, arrogant. Ultimately kind hearted, but also itching to show what he was made of. By the time he laid a smack down on Uldred, he understood that he might not always be strong enough to come out on top, despite what he learned from the spirit of valor (which is canonically in both verses how I explain him becoming an Arcane Warrior before the Dalish Elves quest line). However, while he did learn that his power might not always be absolute, he did come to an understand that he was, in fact, capable of great things and arrogance was replaced by legitimate confidence and wisdom in the measure of how powerful he was as a mage.
Ultimately, from the weeks of traveling, in both verses, his naivete in how the world actually worked was tempered into idealism of what he can do to make the world better, his eagerness to test himself got replaced with a desire to put his power towards a just cause, and his arrogance was shifted into wellfounded confidence.
He didn’t really change into anyone new. Krim just grew into his own mind and body.

WARDEN SQUAD REPORT
Does your Warden have kids? If so, how many and what are they like?
Lira in Warden Squad verse does not have any children.
Marsha and Zev have three kids; Adaia, born about three years after the Blight, who grows up to be a cheerful, sarcastic kid who, to the great confusion of her parents, chooses a bow as her favored weapon. Adaia’s godparents are Lira, Alistair, Leliana, and Sten.
Cyrion and Ruby are twins, born two years after Adaia. Cyrion is quiet, thoughtful, and surprisingly good at diplomacy, given who his parents are. He’s a fan of history and the works of Varric Tethras. He has a fucking gigantic two handed sword. Marsha and Zev blame Isabela for that, telling him about Fenris all the time. His godparents are Masha, Oghren, Morrigan, and Nathaniel.
Ruby is loud, slightly obnoxious and spoiled, being more demanding than Cyrion and having slightly less panicky parents than Adaia. She wants to be just like her mother when she grows up, which Zevran thinks is adorable and Marsha thinks is a terrible idea. She is dual-wielding rogue who keeps hinting that Fang would be the perfect name-day present. Her godparents are Krim, Seren, Sigrun, and Velanna. Which, Marsha observes in later years, probably explains a lot.
Krim does have a kid with Morrigan, but she takes him and, after he finally tracks her down (events of Witch Hunt), they both decide that, as a legendary warden, his duty ought to be to the world at large and he makes a promise to return once he feels like he’s done enough.
But the world needs him more. He knows that more than anything and as a prodigy mage who’s had contact with a blood mage warden that’s lived far past his experation date, Krim’s entirely aware of what he can contribute.
Finding a cure for the call that beckons Wardens to the deep roads.
So after the deal with Amaranthine and tracking down Morrigan, he devotes himself to aiding Avernus in the hopes of watching his son grow big and strong.
Along the way, while following the instructions, he ends up adopting many young mages across Ferelden. Apostates that he trains to use their talents to help others. There’s always a sense of sadness when he talks about his family to his wards, though.
They know better not to ask their mentor about it.
Can you point us to actual references to the "Alistair changes the Chantry in Ferelden" post? Like... source? Sorry my English is not good today.
It’s nothing official or anything. It’s just a headcanon I got from knowing that the Chantry was kind of pissed with Alistair about how supportive he was towards mages and how they were displeased about that.
It’s just a headcanon I liked and wanted to type. Nothing more.
Alistair: Get in the church, losers. We’re starting our own Chantry
So @goodluckdetective and I were talking and I was telling her that, eventually, Alistair breaks Ferelden’s ties to the Chantry at large and starts his own version of it, a la Henry the 8th, right? Only with a lot less marriage problems and, ah... murder.
So what he does, right? What he does is, upon breaking off with the main Chantry, he goes off and says “okay, what works and what doesn’t?”
So he keeps the circle around and makes education there generally mandatory (exceptions are made when they arise), but they’re a) still allowed to let family visit them, b) get to go home for the holidays. It’s a lot more like Hogwarts, only without the Hunger Games style kids vs. kids for points type thing.
Because it’s school and not a summer camp.
He also throws the harrowing right out. Like, there’s still a right of passage that’s similar, but much less dangerous to the mage. He also does a rite of annulment on the rite of annulment. Because 17 purges in 70 years is bullshit and he knows better now.
As he’s getting that done, he realizes that the Templars, or an orginzation with soldiers like the Templars, are somewhat needed because when a mage goes rogue, like actually rogue where he starts killing dudes to increase his power with blood magic type shit, they need specialized troops to deal with that but, here’s the thing, they work in conjunction with other mages that are also specialized in bringing down murder mages and abominations.
Templar talents are needed, ultimately, while the orginzation as it is is not, and sense Orzamarr is in Ferelden territory, the Chantry can’t abuse power over their lyrium addiction either.
And after that gets done, Alistair needs a new divine, right? Now Leliana is (possibly) busy with getting it done with the main chantry, but who’s one devout Andratrian that’salso a mage that we all know and love?
Bethany. Bethany, upon getting enough experience, takes up the reigns as the first Ferelden Divine.
And that’s how Alistair saves the world
Guys, question
For fic writing reasons, how old are all our wardens?
Krim is about 20-21, as he just graduated from magic school, more or less.
Gimme a story where Masha and Marsha bump into Isabela in Denerem, if ya don't mind.
Masha could tell this wasn’t going to end well.
“Why are you looking at Marsha like that,” Krim said, sliding up next to Masha on the bench she’d taken in the small bar. After cleaning up the Pearl, they’d decided to stay for an hour or so to take advantage of the free drinks offered as a reward. Lira and Seren had taken to one of the tables to enjoy the theatrics provided by an intoxicated Alistair. Marsha had decided to talk to Zevran’s friend, which one hour ago, seemed like a good idea.
Now, with Isabella and Zevran perched on one side of the Grey Warden, Masha wasn’t so sure.
“She’s making a poor choice.”
Krim looked over to the pair. “I don’t know about that. They could just be talking.”
Masha shot him a look before turning back to the pair. “That personal space does not imply talking.”
Krim cleared his throat, putting upon a voice Masha had pegged for academic. “Personal space can vary from culture to culture and personal situation. Just because our new acquaintance is sitting close to our dear friend does not imply-”
In that exact moment, Isabella leaned forward to lick the tip of Marsha’s ear.
Krim flushed bright red. “On second thought. Forget that. I am going to procure more mead.”
Marsha’s glare intensified. Now she was sure.
There was no way this could end well.
Marsha would like to say that it ends very well, thank you Masha. Zevran and Isabela concur.
